David Icke

David Icke, another pundit of the Illuminati, believes humans have been getting messages from alien "Illuminati-reptilians" for thousands of years. The reptiles explain such things as the Gregorian calendar.

Icke fancies himself "The most controversial author and speaker in the world."* For him, the origin of the Illuminati is extraterrestrial. He knows this because he is sure we have been contacted regularly with messages from beyond by the alien lizards. He explains it all in several books, especially The Biggest Secret: The Book That Will Change the World.*

The Rothschild family is a family of German Jewish bankers that accumulated vast sums of wealth over the past two centuries. Jewish banker conspiracy theories often trace the entire international conspiracy back to the Rothschilds. The name Rothschild is derived from the German "roten schild," or "red shield." Heavy use of the term "red shields" is a good sign you're in the more conspiratorial and anti-Semitic neighborhood of the Internet.............History.Mayer Amschel Rothschild was the first in the family to gain prominence as a banker, and soon his brothers had opened their own bank branches as well. Napoleon had just been defeated at Waterloo, but word of the defeat reached Britain through the Rothschild information network before the British government's messenger had even made it back. With this advance knowledge, and knowing that others would follow his move assuming he had inside information, Rothschild sold all of his stock in British companies immediately. This caused a market panic and everyone sold, assuming the British had lost at Waterloo. Rothschild then bought up all the now dirt-cheap stock about the same time the official British messenger arrived to deliver news of the victory. Confidence was restored in the market and it returned to pre-crash levels. Rothschild then took the metric fuckton of money he made off of that scheme and bought up the entire British bond market, predicting that they would appreciate in value due to the end of the war. He later pawned them off for nearly twice what he had bought them for. It should be noted, though, that more current research (e.g., by Niall Ferguson) has shown that contemporary accounts of this incident produced by anti-Semites heavily embellished it by overestimating the value of the bond market and overlooking many of the heavy losses Rothschild incurred because of this, as he had also had large speculative bets on a protracted war. Nathan's fortune was actually built largely after the war. This also led to conspiracy theories about Rothschild ownership of the British government.

Mind-bogglingly rich Jewish bankers who funded wars and had a multinational network all the way back in the 19th century? Ripe for conspiracy theorizing! Alex Jones, Lyndon LaRouche, and many other conspiracy theorists view the Rothschilds as helping to create the framework for the New World Order. Their name often gets attached to any old NWO, Illuminati, or one world government theory. Conspiracy theories about the family have been around for over a century. Usually, the main accusation made by theorists is that they're playing both sides of every conflict, ever. The Napoleonic Wars, the Franco-Prussian War, World War I, World War II, etc. All sides of each war were merely puppets of the Rothschilds, who would make exorbitant amounts of cash from repeatedly prodding nations into a cycle of endless warfare.

This is, of course, bullshit. While the Rothschilds did make money by financing arms deals, they also had tons of money in bond markets. Political instability was bad for business because it would destabilize the bond markets. After the Franco-Prussian war, Prussia imposed demands for extremely harsh reparations on France. The Rothschilds, not wanting France to go bankrupt and declare war on Prussia, swooped in and bailed out the entire country with the help of other investors. During World War II, Adolf Hitler seized the Rothschilds property and drove them from Germany. Pretty sneaky considering Hitler was supposed to be their puppet. In reality, the power of the family went into decline by World War I as American Wall Street based financiers began to overtake them.

Of course, in conspiracy-land, the ascendancy of the Wall Street firms was all part of the plan. The first step was in creating the Federal Reserve to concentrate power in their hands even further, so they would own the US as well as Europe. Then they took over the UN, they own the World Bank and IMF, all of it. They are the puppetmasters, and we are their puppets.

In reality, they're still around today, but they're not guilty of anything besides some dirty financial games and being obnoxiously rich.

A cursory search on google reveals a surplus of accusations against the Rothschilds’ family, including claims that they are running the world through a ‘demonistic cabal’, controlling governments and the most powerful banks. We can trace the roots of this antipathy as far back as the 19th century when the Rothschilds were the supreme financiers of the world. At that time, the family was already being accused of financing wars for their own financial gain. The German writer Friedrich von Scherb wrote in his 1893 history of the family that:

“The house of Rothschild has arisen from the quarrels between states, has become great and mighty from wars. The misfortune of states and peoples has been its fortune.”
This view that wars could not be fought without the support of Rothschild finance was shared by the left-wing English writer JA Hobson, who wrote in his book Imperialism: A Study (1902) that the Boer Wars had been funded by a small group of Jewish-German financiers, principally the Rothschilds, for economic gain.

As one might expect, Adolf Hitler was even more explicitly anti-Semitic. In May 1921, he named the Rothschilds as one of a number of Jewish capitalist groups entirely controlling the socialist press. And in a speech in 1922 he referred to the

“rapacity of the Rothschilds who financed wars and revolutions and brought people into servitude through loans”.
The demise of Hitler and the Nazis did not put an end to the slurs against the Rothschilds. In 1991, TV preacher Pat Robertson wrote a book called The New World Order, in which he claimed that the Rothschilds were “polluted by the occultism of illuminated freemasonry”. Robertson said that Paul Warburg, the architect of the Federal Reserve System was a Rothschild agent.
This idea that the Rothschilds are running a shadowy conspiracy to control the world - perhaps through a cabalistic group known as the Illuminati - is among the most common claims. Other common slurs are that the Rothschilds arranged the murder of President Lincoln because his economic policies would have spoiled their commodity speculations; that they financed the rise of Hitler as a bulwark against the Soviet Union and that they are closely involved with the Catholic Church, the Mafia and the CIA.

It is also claimed that their financial power is not limited to the Rothschild holdings. The conspiracy theorists perceive the malign Rothschild hand influencing the destiny of nations. Since the publication of "....and the truth shall set you free", Icke's anti-Semitic and conspiracist writings have continued in the same vein. If anything, they have become even more bizarre with his latest contention that the world is run by an Illuminati conspiracy composed of New World Order powerbrokers who are blood-sucking, child-sacrificing Satanists and are direct genetic descendants of a race of extraterrestrial reptiles capable of changing shapes.

Anyone who doubts the subterranean currents that pulsate beneath the surface of so-called radical critique need to concentrate their gaze harder. Putting aside ‘Tommy’ who has tried to develop an argument with regards the Israel/Palestine question online here at PD, in one post says that ‘Moishe Postone is dirt.’ Postone’s ‘crime’ is to put forward an important explication of how structural anti-semitism works. For this he is described as ‘Dirt.’ Dirt, dust, ash…the Freudian slips of such characters aren’t too hard to guage.

The Protocol’s of the Elders of Zion is sold openly in many market place bookshops and stores across the Middle East. Many are unaware that this ‘book’ is a fake. Or the fact that it is a fake doesn’t matter. As Freud said: Nothing happens by chance.’ Closer to home, a more acceptable form of anti-semitism circulates – from batty MA students with half a dangerous brain, who subscribe to nutloaf David Icke’s ‘ideas’ about the so-called ‘Illuminati.’ Sane people tend to generally laugh at these creeps, but it is a thought through ‘analysis’ and lots of people subscribe to it. Some intelligent people I know who have read Hegel, speak a few languages, well travelled people – nod at it. It especially has purchase in these hollowed out days of near total structural collapse, where working class self-organisation is largely a memory.

Ideas like Icke’s are current in so called ‘esoteric’ circles, where new age spiritualism rubs shoulders with ‘out there’ strains of radicalism. A certain strain of ‘black consciousness’ explicates what they describe as the concept of ‘sankofa’ – in their ‘timeline of history’ the Holocaust did not take place, or is described as ‘a footnote.’ Chilled out, turned on dudes who are working hard to perfect their karma prefer not to mention it, but seething anti-semitism is dressed up as anti-capitalism.
Anyone who doubts this needs to get out of the house more frequently.

We’ve profiled some amazing freaks and goofballs in this column, but David Icke sets a new standard for nutty. He may be one of the most ambitious of conspiracy nuts, going beyond normal levels of delusion and paranoia to offer us a unified theory of global conspiracies, with all the various paranoid fantasies favored by others united into one giant conspiracy. Sure, he hates the Jews for being the secret masters of the world, but they’re just the front men. Behind them are alien intelligences which ontrol everything and have guided human evolution. But wait, there’s more. Apparently there are also reptilian alien shapeshifters from another planet and/or another dimension living among us, breeding with us and stealing our natural resources and feeding on our fear and emotions.

Ok, so Icke is a clinical paranoid delusional case. What’s really scary is that he has apparently gained some legitimacy with the far right political fringe and there are people who are politically active who take some of what he spews seriously. Many on the conservative fringe pick up on Icke’s anti-globalism and seem to get drawn into his whole rather intricately developed cosmology, including the ever-present clown prince of the fringe, Alex Jones. Apparently it’s just a few steps from the Queen of England running the drug trade to reptilian aliens using mind control to feed off of our life energy. But it’s enough for now to point out that Icke is as nuts as they come, and if you run into one of his followers head in the opposite direction as quickly as possible.

If Icke ever starts making sense to you, just remind yourself that the TV show “V” was a work of fiction and not a good basis for a personal philosophy.
