HORRIFIC footage of the aftermath
of the 1996 Port Arthur massacre
has been uploaded on YouTube.

Police aretrying to trace
the account holder,
whose uploaded under
the alias "FreeMartinBryant".

The nine-minute evidence video
was stolen from the Tasmanian Police archive.
It
contains graphic images of some of the 35 people shot dead at the
tourist spot, and police last night were trying to have it removed from
the internet.
FreeMartinBryant's user profile contains more than
20 videos pertaining to "conspiracies" surrounding the events of Port
Arthur, with several videos pertaining to Bryant's "innocence".
It is unknown how the footage was obtained,
but it also appeared on the internet in 2004 .
"Unfortunately
this isn't the first time that this training video has turned up in the
wider community," Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard said.

"It has been known for some years that copies of the police training video have found their way into the public domain.
"A copy was located at a public tip in 2004, which led to an investigation."
Police Minister David O'Byrne said the footage was unlikely to have been stolen recently.
The video archive was upgraded in 2004.
"Tasmania
Police changed their procedures after discovering the material may be
in the public domain, in 2004," he said. "I'm advised no breach has
occurred since then and that the current procedures for handling such
material are secure."
Police are greatly concerned about the effect the video could have on the wider community.
"It
is highly distressing not only for the families of the victims, but for
the community, for these images to be available on the internet," Mr
Tilyard said.
Trauma psychologist Paul Stevenson, who worked for
many years with many of the survivors and victims' families, shared the
disbelief and horror about the posted video.

"To post this is a nasty, terrible thing to have occurred," the Brisbane-based consultant psychologist said.
"By
watching or hearing it is a re-experience - all of those things people
felt at the time come back. The tragedy occurs all over.
"This is very distressing ...
a real worry for families of victims
because
this is exactly what triggers
post-traumatic stress."

Hobart has put on a chilly welcome for Dutch royals the Prince
of Orange Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima.

Premier Paul Lennon and Governor William Cox braved icy winds to
meet the royal couple from the Netherlands at Hobart airport on
Wednesday afternoon.

Stanley Melbourne Bruce's Cigarette Case

Stanley Melbourne Bruce was born into a wealthy commercial family,
and was an outstanding athlete at school and later Cambridge University,
where he qualified as a barrister.

He was in England when war was declared in 1914, and enlisted in the
British Army. He was awarded the Military Cross, a high order award for
bravery in battle, at Gallipoli.

He was wounded and returned to Australia in 1917. He entered the
Commonwealth Parliament in 1918, and served as Treasurer,
and then Prime Minister.
He served as Australia’s High Commissioner to Britain between
1933 and 1945.

Until the day he died,
Stanley Melbourne Bruce
kept two photographs in his study –
one of his wife and one of
Turkish President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,
the founder of the modern Turkish state.
As young men they were enemies at Gallipoli, but during the post-war years
of international reconstruction, they forged a mutual admiration as
passionate advocates of secularism.

After the League of Nations Montreux conference in 1936,
that successfully organised the international passage of warships
through the Dardanelles and Bosporus Straits of Turkey,
Atatürk presented Bruce
with a gold cigarette case, which
he treasured for the rest of his life.

Prime Minister of Australia from February 1923 to October 1929

Bruce divided the rest of his life between London and Melbourne.
He remained Australian High Commissioner until 1945;

United Nations Secretary-General.

He was the chairman of the World Food Council for five years.

Bruce was appointed as the first Chancellor of the Australian National University

Fisken was born at Ballarat, Victoria,
to grazier Archibald James Fisken and Beatrice Mary, née Wanliss.
He attended E.N. Maryatt's Church of England Grammar School for Boys,
Ballarat College and Geelong Church of England Grammar School
before his 1916 commission in the Royal Field Artillery.

He served on the Western Front from 1916 to 1918;
in 1918 he was awarded the Military Cross and promoted to lieutenant,
although he was also wounded.

Returning from the war,
Fisken maintained the family property
(Lal Lal, in the family since 1846)
at Yendon.

He was elected to the Buninyong Shire Council in 1922
and remained a councillor until his death,

He was prominent in the community, both as a sportsman and as a pastoralist.
He married Elspeth Anne Cameron on 20 February 1924 at Ross, Tasmania.
Fisken retired from parliament in 1937, stating that
