...Icke is right.As for a top order punk outfit,always hated the Clash,fakes...Uk had much better to offer.So did we...1983-85,worst year for punk as New Wave took root and spawned the Gender Benders,like Marilyn,Culture Club.But not in Australia,we had Feedtime and Venom P Stinger,to get us through,as the rest of the world squirmed on pop shlock.Even Public Image Limited,with the release of the live in Tokyo and the dreadful This Is What You Want album...Punk was almost dead.Music at that time seem to have 10 year cycles,1975,creative rock hit a brickwall with stadiums and 20 minute guitar solos.
...One other good Punk outfit still going strong but about to implode,was the Dead Kennedy's...You'll never hear Icke bag Jello Biafra...pure genius and a could be misconstrued as a flag-bearer for the truth movement.He was talking human rights abuse and the corporate machine,

The Saints-Know Your Product

The initial spark was in Detroit with MC5 and the Stooges, but then it rapidly spread to OzTrailer with The Saints and Radio Birdman and the like. Then orf to Blighty, then rebounded to Jew Pork City (Richard Hell of course), and then basically every city had its own scene.

The Clash formed the foundation on which cheesy American pop-punk was built, with relatively acceptable bands at first like the Descendants, but then with each new wave of pop-punk getting more pop and less punk, like the Offspring and then finally Blink 182 (the official death choke of punk).

The sound traces back to Clash harmonizing in ditties like "Garage Band".

I don't absolutely hate it, there are worse out there, but obviously the harder grittier side of punk is better.

Dead Kennedys wasn't the earliest of the punk bands, but arguably one of the best, at least politically. Jello's been on-message non-stop since day 1. It's why he'll never get the embarrassment of invitation to the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" like Johnny Lydon did.
