The mystery of Dagg's dig
All Black Israel Dagg's explanation

Dagg's bizarre try celebration

New Zealand full-back Israel Dagg's explanation today
of his unusual try-scoring celebration against France
proved mystifying to both teammate Daniel Carter
and assembled media in Wellington.
During the match, Dagg marked one of his two tries
in a 37-17 All Blacks victory by bending his arm
to form a shape some described as resembling the French rooster.
He refused to discuss his celebration when quizzed by
journalists, other than offering two crypic clues --
"a dog miaows"
and
"the laughing bear rides a motorcycle".
Carter, sitting alongside, could offer no insight, telling reporters:
"It makes no sense to me."
There were suggestions Dagg's unfathomable clues may have
been inspired by French footballer Eric Cantona's famously obtuse
quote:
"When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think
sardines will be thrown into the sea."
Carter said the lack of familiarity with the match ball might be behind
the Rugby World Cup kicking woes of the world's best marksmen..
Wayward
goalkicking has been a talking point of the tournament so far, with the
manufacturers of the Gilbert ball denying it's their problem, saying
each ball has been checked and approved by an engineer.
But Carter said it had different characteristics to what he was used to
from the Super Rugby season earlier in the year.
"It doesn't have as much give so, if you don't quite strike it right,
it then doesn't fly as straight as you would like at times," the All Blacks pivot said.
"But it is the same for every kicker ... if you strike it well - then it goes straight."
Carter, who had a 75 per cent success rate in the recent Tri Nations series,
described his slump to a 67 per cent average in the World Cup as frustrating.
"Obviously, when you play with a certain ball, you get used to it and to
have a new one for such an important tournament can be frustrating early on.
"But it's just a matter of getting out and working hard on the practice pitch."

I tend to refrain from explaining too much these days,
as newbies know they can ask for clarifications,
and the rest, well if they haven't twigged by now, likely never will,
but those who know, know, if I post it, it's worth looking into.

Iron Sky is Roswell. The U.S. became the new stealth nazi regime. Space "aliens" were Pentagon nazis. No one ever noticed that under hypnosis there was a brief moment where the first major abduction victim (Barney Hill) reported to his therapist having seen actual German nazis *in uniform* inside the ship that landed. "Greys" was a false memory implanted but his captors didn't know, until after the fact, that he'd seen their faces before they climbed out of the saucer.

A MAN and woman are being treated for injuries
after fighting off a black bear
that broke into their Pennsylvania home.
Richard and Angela Moyer let their dog out
around 4am Monday (local time),
and when their canine companion returned,
it led a bear into their Oliver Township house,
according to The Patriot-News.
"It is most likely this bear was in hot pursuit of the dog,"
Pennsylvania Game Commission spokesman Jerry Feaser told the paper.
RichardMoyer was bitten and scratched by the bear.
His wife tried to chase the bear off and "it turned on her as well," Feaser said.
He did not specify the woman's injuries.
Feaser said bears and dogs were mortal enemies
but it was unusual for bears to enter houses.
He told the paper, "In most reports of bear, human contact,
in the vast majority of the cases there is a dog involved."
Wildlife officials were trying to locate the animal,
which likely will be euthanised and tested for rabies.

Bear euthanised after park maulings
by:From correspondents in Billings
From:AP
October 04, 2011 11:53AM
A GRIZZLY bear that fatally mauled a hiker in Yellowstone National
Park has been killed after DNA evidence linked the animal to the scene
of a second hiker's death.
Superintendent Dan Wenk said today the decision to euthanise
the 113kg female bear was meant to protect park visitors and staff.
But park officials said they may never know definitively whether the same
bear that killed Brian Matayoshi in July also killed John Wallace in
August.
Evidence showed multiple bears, including the sow, near Mr
Wallace's body - but not whether the sow made any contact with Wallace.
The sow bear was allowed to remain free after Mr Matayoshi's death because
park officials said it was reacting naturally to defend its two cubs.
"We made a decision at that time, based on all the information available,
that we did not have a bear with a history or a bear that was
demonstrating any predatory nature," park spokesman Al Nash said.
There were no witnesses to Mr Wallace's killing in Yellowstone's Hayden Valley,
about 13km from where Mr Matayoshi was killed.
The mauling occurred in a backcountry area frequented by bears, and signs
posted along trails warned visitors to carry mace-like bear spray as a precaution.
By the time Mr Wallace's body was found by other hikers a day after the
mauling, one or more bears had fed upon his body, Mr Nash said.
But authorities couldn't determine from the evidence whether the sow bear
"attacked Mr Wallace or came upon the scene subsequent to the attack,
but we certainly know the bear was at the scene", he said.
The sow bear was linked to the scene through DNA analysis of hair and scat
samples found in the "immediate proximity"of Wallace's body, Mr Nash
said.
The two cubs were captured and taken to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone.
In the immediate aftermath of Mr Wallace's death, park officials said that
they did not believe the responsible grizzly was the same one that had
killed Mr Matayoshi because they found no cub tracks on the scene.
Investigators now believe those tracks might have washed away in a rain storm that
went through the area before Mr Wallace's body was discovered.
The deaths of Mr Matayoshi and Mr Wallace were the first by a bear inside the park
in a quarter-century. Two fatal maulings occurred just outside the park in 2010.
An estimated 600 grizzlies live in the greater Yellowstone area, which includes parts of
Wyoming, Montana and Wyoming. A recent report showed run-ins between
humans and that growing bear population reached record levels last year,
with 295 conflicts recorded by researchers.

Alma Dogs is a community club formed in 1995
by the owners of dogs in the City of Port Phillip;
and largely centred on Alma Park.
What we're about is protecting the rights of dogs and their owners
in the municipality;
and helping to maintain the traditional mutually beneficial relationship
that has existed between humans and dogs since the dawn of history.
We emphasize the importance of responsible dog ownership
among our members and encourage the proper training and socialising of
our canine companions through free access to public outdoor spaces.
Alma Dogs has successfully lobbied our local Council for
off-leash recreation areas for dogs. This includes an extended
off lead beach area, for dogs to be allowed on all beaches during winter,
the upgrading of public parks, including (in Alma Park) the provision of
pooper-scooper stations, the Doggerwel drinking and wallowing facility
and the installation of a public notice board. We are recognized by Council
as a popular voice which cannot be ignored.
We are rapidly gaining members in Stonnington, Boroondara and other
surrounding areas where we shall campaign for recognition by these Councils
on
the benefits of responsible dog ownership and the importance of
socialisation. We are also working on reduction of cruelty to dogs by liaising with Councils to rectify any situations reported to us.
Alma Dogs Aims
- registration of all dogs
- owners supporting and conducting obedience training by positive reinforcement
- all dogs being effectively controlled
- forming liaisons with other Melbourne dog groups
- being a voice in the community
- encouraging positive attitudes and striving to end negativity in the community
- encouraging club members to participate in increasing membership

Big Red aka PHAR LAP...
The Phar Lap story begins in 1928,
when trainer Harry Telford
buys a yearling chestnut thoroughbred at auction.
Flat broke, he borrows the 160-guinea sale price.
The horse is a massive 17 hands.
Other trainers laugh -
the gelding eats too much and, after four races,
has yet to win a place.
But Telford persists,
and with the help of a young strapper called
Tommy Woodcock, Phar Lap wins his first race.
Strapper
Tommy Woodcock
adores Phar Lap.
He sleeps most nights
in the stables
with the horse.
Under his special care and training,
Phar Lap wins and

With record unemployment
and chronic food shortages, Depression
Australia desperately needs a new hero.
70,000 people come to see Phar Lap

There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around
That the colt from old Regret had got away,
And had joined the wild bush horses - he was worth a thousand pound,
So all the cracks had gathered to the fray.
All the tried and noted riders from the stations near and far
Had mustered at the homestead overnight,
For the bushmen love hard riding where the wild bush horses are,
And the stockhorse snuffs the battle with delight.

Penny's father had made a deal with leading owner Ogden Phipps
that if he would breed his best stallion (Bold Ruler)
with Penny's two best mares (Somethingroyal and Hasty Matilda)
that when the mares were close to term they would flip a coin
to see who got which foal.
Bold Ruler, the stallion was fast but couldn't last over distances.
Hasty Matilda was the obvious choice due to her young age,
but Somethingroyal's bloodline was made up of many horses
with good stamina.
Penny hopes to win and choose Somethingroyal's foal due to the
interesting mix of speed and stamina.
Phipps picks Hasty Matilda and
Penny wins Somethingroyal's foal, Secretariat.
