7 This is what the LORD says—
the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel—
to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation,
to the servant of rulers:
"Kings will see you and rise up,
princes will see and bow down,
because of the LORD, who is faithful,
the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you."


Restoration of Israel
8 This is what the LORD says:
"In the time of my favor I will answer you,
and in the day of salvation I will help you;
I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people,
to restore the land
and to reassign its desolate inheritances,

9 to say to the captives, 'Come out,'
and to those in darkness, 'Be free!'
"They will feed beside the roads
and find pasture on every barren hill.

10 They will neither hunger nor thirst,
nor will the desert heat or the sun beat upon them.
He who has compassion on them will guide them
and lead them beside springs of water.

11 I will turn all my mountains into roads,
and my highways will be raised up.

Who brought these up?

but these—where have they come from?' "

22 This is what the Sovereign LORD says:
"See, I will beckon to the Gentiles,
I will lift up my banner to the peoples;
they will bring your sons in their arms
and carry your daughters on their shoulders.

23 Kings will be your foster fathers,
and their queens your nursing mothers.
They will bow down before you with their faces to the ground;
they will lick the dust at your feet.
Then you will know that I am the LORD;
those who hope in me will not be disappointed."

24 Can plunder be taken from warriors,
or captives rescued from the fierce ?

"Yes, captives will be taken from warriors,
and plunder retrieved from the fierce;
I will contend with those who contend with you,
and your children I will save.

26 I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh;
they will be drunk on their own blood, as with wine.

that I, the LORD, am your Savior,
your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob."

La Nina delivered unpredictable summer

THE strongest La Nina weather system to hit Australia in two decades delivered some of
the most unpredictable summer weather in years and
gave hope to drought-stricken farmers.



While much of southern Australia experienced average or little rainfall,

Queensland and New South Wales had torrential rain and flooding.



And as parts of the nation sweltered, others experienced their coolest summer in years.



"Probably the most significant thing we've seen is quite a wet summer in
a lot of eastern Australia,
particularly the eastern half of Queensland
and much of NSW," National Climate Centre climatologist Blair Trewin
said today.

"Rainfall in those areas has generally been well above average and daytime temperatures have also been quite cool.

"It's the first time for some years that we've had a significantly wetter summer than usual."





NSW had its wettest summer in 16 years, with Coonamble recording its soggiest on record.



Sydney recorded 422mm of rain, well above its summer average of 298mm,

while its average maximum temperature was 25.2C - 0.7C below the normal
and the coolest in 11 years.



Summer delivered a prolonged drenching for Queensland,
with unrelenting
rain falling across much of the state since before Christmas.


The area west of Mackay, where a freak deluge dumped 624mm on the city
in 10 hours a fortnight ago,
recorded its wettest summer ever.

Brisbane received 480mm, in the city's wettest summer since 2004.




It also experienced a cooler than average summer - until the mercury
soared to 40C last weekend,
making it Brisbane's hottest February day in
four years.



Western Australia was threatened by Cyclone Nicholas which crossed the coast without causing any damage.



It also endured some of the nation's most extreme temperatures.



The Northern Territory has endured its second or third hottest summer on record, with final figures yet to be compiled.


In the outback territory town of Alice Springs, the coolest day in January was 36C.



South Australia, Victoria and Canberra had average rainfall and
temperatures,
while Tasmania had an extremely dry December and January
and above normal temperatures.


"A lot of it is a classical La Nina pattern," Mr Trewin said.

"We consider it as being at least the strongest since 1988-89."




La Nina is the name given to lower than normal sea surface temperatures

across parts of the Pacific Ocean, which bring wet weather.



National Farmers Federation president David Crombie said that
while the
rain had caused damage to crops
including sorghum and sugar cane in
Queensland and NSW, it been "hugely beneficial".

"What we've seen is a good old-fashioned summer wet season pattern," Mr Crombie said.

"I think the rain has just brought a lot of heart to a lot of producers
who've really being going through some very tough times."



Large areas of western NSW have moved out of drought for the first time
in seven years
but more than 60 per cent of Queensland is still drought
declared,
despite floods affecting 80 per cent of the state.



"The fact that we've had rain doesn't mean that
the need for drought assistance disappears overnight," Mr Crombie said.
