Anti-Semitism and Its Causes: The Psychological Background

Anti-semitism is a multi-faceted phenomenon, which lends itself to various analyses. I would like to demonstrate that the various dimensions of analysis do not contradict one another. In fact, their juxtaposition creates a complete picture. Here we will discuss the first level, the psychological dimension. To explain it, I will use a simple allegory. Psychologists often employ the Rorschach Test in their analysis of patients. The test uses a well-known technique known as the projective technique. The patient is asked to look at a series of pictures and explain what he sees. These pictures have no intrinsic meaning. In fact, they are simply ink blots on paper that created symmetrical designs when the paper was folded in two. As previously mentioned, the pictures do not represent anything, yet people look at them and explain them. The explanations do not exist in the pictures; they exist in the person's mind. This is an opening, through which the psychologists try to enter the inner world of the person, who "projects" what is inside himself onto the pictures.

This mechanism, according to many psychologists, can shed light on the phenomenon of anti-Semitism. The anti- Semite sees in the Jews negative qualities that threaten and endanger him. These characteristics don't exist in the "picture"; they only exist in the mind of the beholder. They are the projections of the anti-Semite, who uses the Jew as a blot of his own making, and upon which he projects the black sides of his inner world. This, in very general terms of course, refers to the psychological background of anti-Semitism.

The fact that the Jew is a minority, a foreigner who is relatively easily identified, was a psychological cause that contributed to the choice of the Jew as the screen upon which the anti-Semites threw their fears and hatred. This is actually the explanation for a number of noticeable characteristics of anti-Semitism. We find many types and forms of attacks on Jews. In one place the Jew is described as having one trait, and in another place he is accused of the opposite characteristic. This is true regarding both his personal traits and his social and political traits. Thus, for example, the Jew is portrayed as the capitalist trying to take over the world, and on the other hand as the revolutionary, who is attempting to weaken the power of wealth and utterly abolish personal ownership. The fact that we are faced with a psychological phenomenon means that we must not search for logic here. All anti-Semites project their various and contradictory fears upon the Jew.

Anti-Semitism and Its Causes: The Social Basis
Whoever thinks that this analysis has exhausted the topic of anti-Semitism is fooling himself. Anti-Semitism is a social, not an individual, phenomenon. In addition to its psychological aspects, we must study anti-Semitism from its social and general perspectives as well. A view of history and philosophy in recent generations will be of help in our attempt. Let us therefore move on to the second level of our analysis, the collective, political and social level. Until now we have examined a phenomenon that has already been expressed by the earliest thinkers of the last century. They viewed anti-Semitism as part of Xenophobia, and indeed, the phenomena we have expressed until now are merely details within a much larger context, that of the strains that exist between various groups, between the majority and the minority, and even between various races who live together within one society. From this perspective, there is no essential difference between the hatred of Jews and the hostility that exists towards other races, such as blacks. However, this is but one level of the explanation. Until now we have identified the roots of the problem, and its individual expressions.

If anti-Semitism were only an individual psychological phenomenon, it would be similar to other forms of discrimination and hostility; however, in the modern world anti-Semitism takes on a different hue. Various groups have used it for political purposes. We can trace clear attempts to use psychological hostility – which, it seems, has deep religious roots – to forward political aims. Thus, modern anti-Semitism was born, and acquired a more and more tragic and satanic form. The widespread use of this technique began in Czarist Russia, in the struggle to smother those revolutionary attempts that finally toppled the Czarist rule. Through the Czarist secret police, the rulers attempted to identify revolutionary action with the activities of the Jews. The rulers of Czarist Russia fought against certain phenomena, and in this fight they created a kind of equation, which was supposed to prove their claims. The Czarist secret police created one of the documents that became an anti-Semitic classic, "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion." This book reveals the so-called secret plan weaved by the leaders of the Jews, to take over the entire world. "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" became a holy book among the anti-Semites.

"The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" was simply a rewriting of a French book that attributed ambitions to take over the world to Napoleon. This booklet is called "a dialogue in hell between Machiavelli and Montasque," or "Politics of the Nineteenth Century." These accusations were not at all directed towards the Jews and Judaism. However, the dialogue was adopted and transformed into the protocols of an imaginary group whose members were the world leaders of Judaism, attempting to take over the politics of various European countries.

Even the Czar himself, Nikolai the Second, although far from bearing the Jews any fond feelings, saw that the book was a fake and opposed its publication. Despite this, the first Russian edition appeared in 1905. A number of years later, other editions began to appear. Some of the editions were altered and corrected in order to make it possible to accuse the Jews of various catastrophes that took place between one edition and another. At various opportunities, it became the topic of public court cases, in which the book was proved to be a forgery. However, this of course did not check the book's growing popularity, particularly in the wake of the Nazi influence. The book influenced various writers, who were mistakenly taken in and convinced of its authenticity. Thus, for example, Henry Ford was inspired by "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion" to write "The International Jew," in which he continues these accusations. Various other books were written in its wake until recent years.

This is an example of a lie and forgery that the power of truth could not effectually surmount. This abominable book became a justification of Nazism and the genocide that followed in its wake. This is an example of the phenomena that we must deal with. Forgeries spread throughout the world, and people are convinced.

Judaism engages with and seeks to overcome these realities of history through its notion of covenant. The covenant is that dynamic which God inaugurated in history, that partnership between God and the Jewish people, to achieve the dignities for which all humans were created. Jews are those teachers, models, and co-workers-having both a divine and human partners - whom God designated to help all persons and even nature achieve redemption. For Greenberg, the messianic dream of perfection will not be realized by divine fiat, but by "improving this world, one step at a time."

These understandings of God, humans, and the world are expressed through the Torah and lived-out by the Jewish people through the Holy days and the Halakhah. In this view, Torah is that divine teaching which stands as "the constitution of the ongoing relationship of God and the Jewish people." Rabbi Greenberg

This expanded view/articulation of higher values help us to search for YHWHs presence in the secular Realms of Life, some peeps call this: 'Holy Secularism'.

The Covenant is essentially a Divine, Loving, Pedagogic process. As Humans become more competent, YHWH invites them to take up a more active role in the Task of Tikkun Olam/World to Come, as Co-Creators.

The lay people of YHWH/God play a more influential role in discerning Yahwehs purpose and in carrying out His Divine Mandates.

Later, ensuing Historical events reshape understandings of earlier Teachings.

* When Life blossoms to its fullest capacity that treats all Life, especially Human Life-the most developed form-and sustains it with the highest and fullest respect that it deserves, then Life will be in harmony with existence and deeply related to Yahweh, its Source and Sustainer(Natural Laws)

* This is the Jews Story, and by default; the Christians/Xns.

* Telling the Story of Creation is the Jews 'Witness'. The present evidentiary Facts contradict the Narrative fairly substantialy.

* Yet, This Story of Creation is shared by Jews and Christians

* This Story leads Humans to see existence as best they can, from a Cosmic Perspective-Sub Specie Aeternitatis.

* From that Vantage Point there are Three Grand Movements in the unfolding Pattern of the Cosmos

1: The World is moving from Chaos to Order. From the Big Bang, with no Laws of Nature to the regularity of the Life sustaining Laws of Nature.

Death & Entropy refute that contention.

The 'Key' is YHWH/God-The Hidden, Infinite Source of Life with limitless Goodness, Love and Power that sustains Life and Nurtures every possible Form of Life into Being.

* YHWH, the Divine Source evokes the Third Grand Movement of the Cosmos

3: Life is growing ever more to resemble its Ground: YHWH

Life moves from being less to becoming more and more like Yahweh. The highest form of Life, the Human Being, represents the High Point reached thus far.

In Human Form, life so resembles its Maker that it is called; Biblically; 'The Image of God'

* This emergence of "The Image of God" is the Turning Point in Cosmic History according to Jews & Christians.

Up to that point Life has been sworn to 'Be Fruitful & Multiply' (maximizing reproductive success) through a built-in control Programme-A 'Selfish Gene'- that drives the process.

* The 'Image of God' Consciousness is so much like YHWHs that Humans are able to 'grasp' this overall pattern of which we, ourselves are part, and to join voluntarily in its realization.

* Similarly, the Human 'Image of YHWH/God has a capacity to Love ALL their fellow creatures and every aspect of the Universe, as well as the Maker of it all and the Beauty of the Plan.

* Once Humans understand and embrace this understanding, they will lovingly identify with and willingly participate in the process of Perfection.

* The People of Israel joyfully acknowledge that YHWHs first Covenant, the Noahide Covenant, never superseded, is made with ALL Humanity, not exclusively with Jews and/or Christians alone.

* It is made with ALL Sentient Beings.

* ALL Beings are called to recognize and participate in Natures Patterns.

* To accept Limits.

* To Direct their choices and actions in favour of Life.

* To join in working for Order against Chaos.

* We are ALL CHOSEN to become part of the movement from Non-Life to Life.

* We are commanded to increase Life and make it grow ever more like its Maker.


* The purpose of the Religious way of life is to create the nurturing ambience of memory and experience, of relationships and actions that sustain Human growth and turns it towards Yahweh.

* Being in the 'Image of God/YHWH brings with it more God like capacities. It bestows intrinsic Dignity, a climatic extension of that respect to which all of life is entitled.

Yeshua, the Living Torah
In the Messianic Movement, we proclaim Yeshua (Jesus) the Living Torah: the Incarnate embodiment of Torah (John 1:1; 14). It was He, we say, who walked out Torah perfectly and who is the propitiation for our sins (Hebrews 4:15; 7:26-27; 1 John 2:1-2). It was He to whom the Torah pointed us, so that we would all (Jew and non-Jew) come to Him and He would atone for our sins (sin is the transgression of the Law - 1 John 3:4) and "save" us from the consequences of those sins..................1 John 2:3-6:

By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.


Walk like Yeshua walked
The preceding verse gives us a "litmus" test to help show us if we abide in Him or not: "the way we can be sure we know Him is if we are obeying His commands."

In other words, if you as a believer in Yeshua/Jesus (Jewish or not) say you really know Him, you will walk as He did. We're NOT talking about any sort of salvation by works here. This is an issue after the salvation issue is resolved! Now that you are saved, what kind of behavior is expected? That is what we're talking about. It puts us past the Acts 15:19-20, 28-29 minimum behavior of the Jerusalem Council and brings us to verse 21 "For Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath"! The Gentile is now saved! What do we expect of him/her now? What direction will the life-change that their salvation experience began lead them to? The answer? "Moses!"

The Acts 15 council recognized that we now have non-Jewish believers in our synagogues, what do we do with them? Do we say to them, "Well, 'Moses' applies only to the Jewish brethren and not to you"? Maybe the question should be: "What do they do with 'Moses' (Torah)?" Should they just sit there, hearing him read in the synagogue every Shabbat and say to themselves, "Well, that's for my Jewish brethren only and doesn't apply to me." No, I believe the implication here in this verse is that the non-Jewish believers will hear Moses and will begin to do what is said there.

Else, why did Shaul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit insert additional commandments from Torah into all his Epistles to the Gentile believers (above the four prescribed by the Council in Acts 15)? He did so because he understood that his Gentile readers also needed to walk the way Yeshua walked, just as did the Jewish believers! If "the four" were all that was required for the non-Jewish believer, there would be no need for any additional commandments to be inserted.

1. Introduction

Even a superficial reading of the New Testament reveals how frequently its authors and those about whom they write quote from the Old Testament. This should come as a surprise to no one familiar with the authoritative role that the scriptures played in Jewish religious life. What may come as a surprise, however, at least to the modern reader, is the variety of ways in which scripture is interpreted and used by Jesus and the early church. In their hands, the meaning of the Old Testament is not restricted to its so-called literal and historical meaning, but has other dimensions of meaning. Moreover, with one exception, the interpretive methods adopted by Jesus and the early church are identical with those used by other Jewish interpreters of the second-Temple and early rabbinic periods.....................................

That the world to come is a reality can also be inferred logically from a careful observation of scripture. When Moses blessed the tribes, he says, "Let Reuben live, and not die" (Deut 33:6). The early rabbis conclude that Moses must have meant that Reuben would live in the world to come—in spite of his sin—since he had already died; otherwise Moses' statement is nonsensical. Likewise, it is reasoned that the promise in Lev 18:5 that the person who obeys God's decrees and laws will live by them assumes the existence of the world to come. The promise, "You shall live " is taken to be incompatible with the view that death is the end of human life (Sipra Lev Ahare Parashah 8.10). Similarly, it follows that, if scripture says of one who is utterly cut off that his iniquity remains upon him, this can only be true if the dead must stand before God in judgment, since iniquity cannot remain upon one who no longer exists (Sipre Num 112). The one upon whom his iniquity remains will be excluded from the world to come. Finally, the scroll eaten by Ezekiel, upon both sides of which were written words of lament and mourning is interpreted symbolically as referring to the two worlds: the front of the scroll signifies this world, whereas its reverse signifies the world to come (Sipre Num 103). Apparently, this is the only explanation for the fact that both sides of the scroll were written upon. (See also Mek Shirata 1.8-10.)

Jesus reads from Isaiah 61:1-2 in the synagogue at Nazareth, sits down, and then proclaims, "Today, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." In the original context, the one speaking in Isa 61:1-2 is the prophet, but, apparently, the fact that Isa 61:1 says that, "The Lord has anointed me" allows Jesus to conclude it is the Messiah who is speaking, since the Messiah is the anointed one. Jesus interprets this text messianically and then claims implicitly to be the Messiah because he has been doing what is described in Isa 61:1-2 (see also Matt 11:2-6; Luke 7:18-23). It is clear that this is an example of a pesher of interpretation of the Old Testament. It should be noted that Isa 61:1-2 was interpreted eschatologically and perhaps messianically, in a pesher-fashion, in the second-Temple period (4Q521 [Messianic Apocalypse]; 11QMelch 2.18), so that Jesus was not the first to do so.

I provide this chart to allow someone without Greek to easily see, at a glance, the larger differences that exist between the various versions. Oftentimes it is difficult to find tools that create the sort of format found below.

The chart has no scholarly value. Anyone who wants to understand precisely the differences should begin to learn Greek, and to read the secondary literature on the subject. A good starting place is Natalio Fernández Marcos, "The Septuagint and the New Testament," chapter 21 in The Septuagint in Context: Introduction to the Greek Version of the Bible, trans. Wilfred G. E. Watson (Leiden: Brill, 2000). Marcos's judgment on the matter is "that most of the the Old Testament quotations in the New follow the text of the LXX in one of its known forms." (265) Thus, in some instances where the NT and LXX do not match, the NT may reflect an earlier or alternate version of the LXX.

TWO TYPES OF NT TREATMENTS OF OT PROPHECIES
Literal Use of the OT in the NT
A number of OT passages receive a literal treatment, that is, the NT records
actual events or principles that satisfy the grammatical-historical sense of the OT
passage. Several examples illustrate this.
Matt 1:23 with Isa 7:14. The Lord through Isaiah offered King Ahaz a
sign in Isa 7:10-11, but Ahaz in feigned humility refused the offer in Isa 7:12. Since
Ahaz refused that sign, the Lord chose another sign described in Isa 7:14, the
miraculous birth of a son to a virgin. The Hebrew word translated “virgin” refers to
an unmarried woman (Gen 24:43; Prov 30:19; Song 1:3; 6:, indicating that the
birth of Isaiah’s own son in Isa 8:3 could not have fulfilled this prophecy. Besides,
birth of a son to Isaiah would hardly have satisfied the promise of a “sign” and the
son’s name of “Immanuel” in 7:14. M atthew noted the fulfillment of this prophecy
in the birth of Israel’s M essiah in Matt 1:23 and applied the name “Immanuel” (i.e.,
“God with us”) from Isa 7:14 to Him. That was a literal fulfillment of Isaiah’s OT
prophecy.
Acts 13:23 with Isa 11:1. Isaiah 11:1 predicts the coming of a Rod from
the stem of Jesse and a Branch growing from Jesse’s roots. The Babylonian
captivity appears to have ended the Davidic dynasty in Israel, but life remained in
the “stump” and “roots” of the Davidic line. Jesse was the father of David through
whom the Messianic king w as to come (Ruth 4:22; 1 Sam 16:1, 12, 13). Paul’s
sermon in Acts 13:23 notes the literal fulfillment of that prophecy through David,
the son of Jesse, from whose offspring God would bring to Israel a Savior whose

name was Jesus.
Matt 21:42 with Isa 28:16 and Ps 118:22. OT references to “the chief
corner stone” and “the stone which the builders rejected” found their literal
fulfillment in the incarnation and death of Jesus Christ, according to Matt 21:42
along with Mark 12:10; Luke 20:17; Acts 4:11; Rom 9:33; Eph 2:20; 1 Pet 2:6-8.
He provided the only sure refuge for Israel who had made the mistake of relying on
foreigners instead. At Jesus’ first coming, Israel rejected Him, thereby stumbling in
literal fulfillment of this prophecy.
Luke 3:4-6 with Isa 40:3-5. All four Gospels record the fulfillment of this
prophecy of a voice crying in the wilderness through the preaching of John the
Baptist. His was a prophetic exhortation to Israel to prepare for the revelation of the
Lord’s glory with the arrival of the Messiah. Luke 3:4-6 gives the fullest account
of the fulfillment with Matt 3:3; Mark 1:3; John 1:23 furnishing briefer notices of
the same. The remnant of Israel was to remove obstacles from the coming Messiah’s
path by repenting of their sins. Both John the Baptist (M att 3:2) and Jesus (Matt
4:17; Mark 1:15) reminded people of this necessity.
Matt 3:16-17 and 17:5 with Isa 42:1a. The personal Servant of the LORD
spoken of in Isa 42:1a is Israel’s Messiah who was chosen (Luke 9:35) because the
LORD delights in Him. In Matt 3:16-17 (see also Mark 1:10-11 and Luke 3:22) at
Christ’s baptism and in Matt 17:5 at His transfiguration, Matthew records the literal
fulfillment of God’s recognition of the Messiah as the one in whom He is pleased.
Matt 26:67 and 27:26, 30 with Isa 50:6. Isaiah foresaw the cruel
treatment of Jesus by the soldiers during and after His trial. Matthew records His
being struck, slapped, scourged, and spat upon, as do Mark, Luke, and John also (see
Mark 14:67; 15:19; Luke 22:63; John 18:22). The OT anticipated that abusive
treatment of the Messiah, and the NT recorded the prophecy’s literal fulfillment.
John 12:37-38 with Isa 53:1. When he w rote, “Who has believed our
report?,” the prophet anticipated that Israel would not recognize her Messiah when
He arrived. That expectation found literal fulfillment when Christ came. John 12:38
explicitly notes the fulfillment, while John 1:9-11 implicitly does so by speaking of

Sometimes the NT interprets OT prophecies in their literal sense, but other
times it assigns an ISPA sense to them. That does not give license to the contemporary
interpreter to imitate the hermeneutics of NT writers, because such a procedure
would violate the grammatical-historical principle of single meaning. The NT
writers could do it because of their status as writers of inspired Scripture.
When the NT writers made such applications, it did not violate that
principle of single meaning, because the authority for the additional meaning was not
the OT source, but the NT citation of that source. The OT passage in itself
continued to have only one meaning.
Of course, God from the beginning knew the OT passage would eventually
have that additional meaning, but a literal interpretation of that passage did not yield
that meaning. The grammatical-historical interpretation of the NT citation of that
passage is what yields the additional meaning.
A suggested reason for the inspired sensus plenior applications of OT
passages in the NT is Israel’s rejection of her M essiah at His first advent. One of the
ramifications of that rejection was new revelation regarding OT passages related to
a body called the church, revelation that was not foreseen in or a part of the OT.
Comparisons of this analysis of the NT’s use of the OT with other
explanations revealed that none exactly coincides with the proposal here. The

closest is that of John Walton in his article on “Inspired Subjectivity and
Hermeneutical Objectivity.” An observation resulting from the current proposal is
that expositors and exegetes should refrain from using “fulfillment” terminology in

THE NEW Testament contains an extraordinarily large number of Old Testament quotations. It is difficult to give an accurate figure since the variation in use ranges all the way from a distant allusion to a definite quotation introduced by an explicit formula stating the citation’s source. As a result, the figures given by various authors often reflect a startling discrepancy.

1. RANGE OF OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES
The present writer has counted 224 direct citations introduced by a definite formula indicating the writer purposed to quote. To these must be added seven cases where a second quotation is introduced by the conjunction “and,” and 19 cases where a paraphrase or summary rather than a direct quotation follows the introductory formula. We may further note at least 45 instances where the similarity with certain Old Testament passages is so pronounced that, although no explicit indication is given that the New Testament author was referring to Old Testament Scripture, his intention to do so can scarcely be doubted. Thus a very conservative count discloses unquestionably at least 295 separate references to the Old Testament. These occupy some 352 verses of the New Testament, or more than 4.4 per cent. Therefore one verse in 22.5 of the New Testament is a quotation.

If clear allusions are taken into consideration, the figures are much higher: C. H. Toy lists 613 such instances, Wilhelm Dittmar goes as high as 1640, while Eugen Huehn indicates 4105 passages reminiscent of Old Testament Scripture. It can therefore be asserted, without exaggeration, that more than 10 per cent of the New Testament text is made up of citations or direct allusions to the Old Testament. The recorded words of Jesus disclose a similar percentage. Certain books like Revelation, Hebrews, Romans are well nigh saturated with Old Testament forms of language, allusions and quotations. Perusal of Nestle’s edition of the Greek New Testament, in which the Old Testament material is printed in bold face type, will reveal at a glance the extent of this practice. These facts appear even more impressive when one remembers that in New Testament times the Old Testament was not as today duplicated by the million but could be obtained only in expensive handwritten copies.

If we limit ourselves to the specific quotations and direct allusions which form the basis of our previous reckoning, we shall note that 278 different Old Testament verses are cited in the New Testament: 94 from the Pentateuch, 99 from the Prophets, and 85 from the Writings. Out of the 22 books in the Hebrew reckoning of the Canon only six (Judges-Ruth, Song of Solomon, Ecclesiastes, Esther, Ezra-Nehemlah, Chronicles) are not explicitly referred to. The more extensive lists of Dittmar and Huehn show passages reminiscent of all Old Testament books without exception.

It is to be noted that the whole New Testament contains not even one explicit citation of any of the Old Testament Apocrypha which are considered as canonical by the Roman Catholic Church. This omission can scarcely be viewed as accidental.

2. AUTHORITY OF OLD TESTAMENT REFERENCES
From beginning to end, the New Testament authors ascribe unqualified authority to Old Testament Scripture. Whenever advanced, a quotation is viewed as normative. Nowhere do we find a tendency to question, argue, or repudiate the truth of any Scripture utterance. Passages sometimes alleged to prove that the Lord and his apostles challenged at times the authority of the Old Testament, when carefully examined, turn out to bolster rather than to impair the evidence for their acceptance of Scripture as the Word of God. In Matthew 5:21-43 and 19:3-9, our Lord, far from setting aside the commandments of the Old Testament, really engages in a searching analysis of the spiritual meaning and original intent of the divine precept, and from this vantage point he applies it in a deeper and broader way than had been done before him. In some passages in which comparison is made between the revelation of the Old Testament and that of the New (John 1:17; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Galatians 3:19ff.; Hebrews 1:1, 2, and so forth), the superior glory of the New Testament is emphasized, not as in conflict with the Old, but as the perfect fulfillment of a revelation still incomplete, yet sanctioned by divine authority.

It is noteworthy that the New Testament writers and the Lord Jesus himself did not hesitate on occasion to base their whole argumentation upon one single word of Old Testament Scripture (Matthew 2:15; 4:10; 13:35; 22:44; Mark 12:36; Luke 4:8; 20:42, 43; John 8:17; 10:34; 19:37; Acts 23:5; Romans 4:3, 9, 23; 15:9-12; 1 Corinthians 6:16; Galatians 3:8, 10,13; Hebrews 1:7; 2:12; 3:13; 4:7; 12:26), or even on the grammatical form of one word (Galatians 3:16).

The word Kabbalah ה לב ק comes from the root word ל ב ק which means, “to receive.” Kabbalah then is received revelation by the Holy Spirit. Kabbalah seeks to encourage a relationship between an eternal and mysterious Creator – Yahweh, the Ayn Sof, the Incomprehensible One, and the mortal, finite creation – mankind,
made in the “image of the Express Image of the invisible Elohim.” (Genesis 1:26 & Colossians 1:15)
According to Scripture, knowledge of Yahweh was transmitted to the Patriarchs, prophets, and sages
ה יה מכ H חäKhämim in Hebrew, literally meaning “wise ones”) and in turn given to His people Israel.

Israel, as the priests of all mankind was to convey these teaching to the rest of mankind.
Unfortunately, though Israel was called to be a “Kingdom of Priests” (Exodus 19:6) foreign conquest and persecution drove Israel’s spiritual leadership into hiding; the knowledge they had went underground making it secret, fearing that it might be misused if it fell into the wrong hands.

They stop the public use of the name of Yahweh, hiding behind titles like El Shaddi, El Elyon, Adonai, and Elohim.
The Sanhedrin leaders were also concerned that the knowledge of the ה ו ד רת תו “Torat Ha’Sod” meaning the “Mystical Torah” would be trampled on by the philosophers, theologians and preachers of the Gentiles.


In the tenets of faith of Agudat Bris we declare, “We believe in the "Ayn Sof," the Incomprehensible One, Eternal, Almighty, All Gracious, and All Wise Yahweh: Abba Father.

Yahweh is the “Cause of all causes.” “And Elohim said…, "I AM WHO I AM." (Exodus 3:14) What
Yahweh did at creation was step from concealment into manifestation. The “Ayn Sof” or Infinite One, that exists
without end; He who has no beginning and has no end, moved from the incompressible into something the can be
grasped – Father.
Yahweh, by virtue of creating is the Father. “And [Messiah] said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible
for You. (Mark 14:36)” As Creator He is the "I AM WHO I AM,” Cause of all causes; the Root of all roots.
Man can only come to know Yahweh as “Abba” the Divine Parent, Father of All. Yahweh is “Eyeh Asshur
Eyeh,” the I am that I am or more literally, the Cause of all causes, the Root of all roots.

It is said by our Sages that, “All comes from One and all returns to the One.” The Messiah said, “I came
forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.” (John
16:28) That means, the sin of braking Covenant with Yahweh is the sin of breaking the Law of Return. The
Messiah came into the world to restore the relationship between Yahweh and man.
When man enters into Covenant with Yahweh, man is re-created. “Therefore if any man be in Messiah,
he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)”
The restored man is made into “ben Yahweh,” the son of Yahweh.

Because there is a creation we know there has to be a Creator. But how did the Ayn Sof begin creation,
making room for the Universe and humanity? When Yahweh created the world, He didn't create it as a vast expanse
of existence all at once. Rather, He created a single point, referred to as "Ha-Makom" ( קום [ מ] ה literally "the
place", "the omnipresent") and from there, He drew out the entire universe. Ayn Sof began creation by b ם\ צ ו מ צ
Tzimtzum – constricting Himself forming an "empty space" ( ח/ יונפה ל ל ) in order to allow for a "conceptual
space" in which a finite and material world could exist. We know where that place, that first point, is. On the Temple
Mount, there is a stone. That stone is called the Even Shesia - literally the Foundation Stone. From that stone the
entire Universe was drawn out. In other words, when Yahweh created the world, there was a single point of contact
between the world above and this world.
The site of that stone was the place where Yahweh tested Abraham by commanding him to bring up his son
Isaac as a sacrifice; that stone is the site where Jacob dreamed of a ladder connecting Heaven and Earth and angels
going up and down on it.
Around that stone stood the two Holy Temples. In that Temple, the Holy Ark sat on top of that Foundation
Stone, and around it was the Holy of Holies; around the Holy of Holies was the Sanctuary; around the Sanctuary
was the Courtyard of the Temple; around that was Jerusalem; and around Jerusalem, the earth, and around the earth -
the universe.
And it is around that stone that we long to see YahShua’s Temple inaugurated in the month of Bül
(Cheshvan).
The first of Creation was Yahweh’s only begotten Son. The “First born of creation,” is “the image of the
invisible Elohim,” the Son of Yahweh called in the Hebrew the “Adam Kadmon.”
“He is the image (Adam Kadmon) of the invisible Elohim (Ayn Sof), the firstborn over all creation
(Son of Yahweh). For through Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and
for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the
Assembly, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence

The first emanation to show forth out of the Heavenly Father was the Adam Kadmon, the pre-incarnate
Messiah. Yahweh the Father, whose knowledge and capacity of knowing is infinite, contemplates eternally His own
divine being, His own divine essence. The IDEA or IMAGE or WORD conceived of Himself in His own divine
mind is an absolutely perfect living representation of the Father. This living image of Himself which the Father
emanated from His divine Person, His bosom, is distinct from the Father but completely dependent on Him. He is
the Father's only-begotten Son. As the writer to the Hebrews expressed it, He is: “the brightness of His glory and
“the express image of [Yahweh’s] person (Hebrews 1:3).” He is the “Repairer of the Breach,” (Isaiah 58:12)
even before there was a “breach.” Blessed is Yahweh our Elohim Who creates the remedy before the wound. It was
from the Adam Kadmon that tremendous light shown forth and aligned itself into creation. It was through “the
image of the invisible Elohim,” the Messiah, that Yahweh made all things. The Adam Kadmon is the expression of
Yahweh’s complete Word.
“Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who
hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and
what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? (Proverbs 30:4)”

Yahweh created mankind by His Divine Light of His Word. “In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim. He was in the beginning with Elohim. All things were

Yahweh is the Father of Lights. “Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every

shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of
firstfruits of His creatures. (James 1:16-18)”
The first human, Adam, the Almighty's own direct handiwork, was created flawless, "In the image of
Elohim, He created him." (Genesis 1:26)
The Gaon of Vilna (Gra, 1720-1797) echoed this: “The light that was created on the first day was the light
with which Adam saw from one end of the creation to the other. This original light is the light of consciousness (
אור [ ל ה j כj ש Or HaSechel), the light which illumines the mind. It is through this that Adam perceived and
grasped the entirety of the universe. This is the light that was hidden away for the future when (Isaiah 11:9), ‘The
earth will be filled with the Knowledge of Yahweh’” (Aderet Eliyahu, p. 37).
Then, Adam and Chavah (Eve) disobeyed the command of Elohim, "Of the fruit of the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die." (Genesis 2:17).
Chavah was tempted by a serpent, a manifestation of the Devil, to eat the fruit of the tree ("you will not die, you
will be just like Elohim"). After she did, she convinced Adam to eat of it as well and mankind fell from grace. As
Yahweh was literally pouring His Light into these vessels, they catastrophically shattered, tumbling down toward the
realm of the material, death. This is called the רי ב  ש לים ת  כ ה Sheviret HaKelim, or "Shattering of the
Vessels." Thus our great task involves assisting Yahweh by freeing and reuniting the scattered vessels, raising the
sparks, their spirit, back to Covenant and restoring the Kingdom and fixing the broken world. This is called the
Y ק B ם ו ןת [ עול “Tikun HaOlam,” the repairing of the world. How are we to do that?
“Hear, O Israel: Yahweh (is) our Elohim, Yahweh is one. Love Yahweh your Elohim with all your
heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be
upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk
along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them
on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
How does the Ayn Sof, Who is pure Spirit without semblance or form, reveal himself to mortal man? In
the beginning, He did so by revealing himself through the manifestation of His Grace – called the ירות b פn ס
Sephirot.
“Praise be to you, O Yahweh, Elohim of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, O
Yahweh, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in
heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Yahweh, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.” (1 Chronicles
29:10-11)
This was revealed to us through Scripture by the Patriarchs, prophets, and sages.
“In the past Yahweh spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various
ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son, Whom He appointed heir of all things, and
through Whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of Yahweh’s glory and the exact representation

The Son was created from out of the Father and was the agency that was used anytime man needed to see

The critic would say, “Hey wait a minute. When God gives a revelation he does so in public. He gives it in
such a way that everyone can hear. He is not discriminatory. It is open to anyone who will humble himself and listen
to Him.”

them. Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he

This revelation of the Messiah and His Kingdom had been hidden for centuries. However, it was written in

commission Yahweh gave me to present to you the Word of Yahweh in its fullness— the mystery that has been
kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. To them Yahweh has chosen to make
known among the nations the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Messiah in you, the hope of glory.”

Many of the learned Rabbis couldn’t see what King Messiah was teaching nor Who He was.
“At that time YahShua said, ‘I praise you, Father, Sovereign of Heaven and earth, because you have
hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was

Yahweh sent His “Express Image” into His creation to reveal Himself to whomever will recognize their

To those critics that deny there are secrets, hidden wisdom and mysteries in Scripture, we must say, there is
hidden treasure and hidden wisdom. The mysteries of Yahweh: how an infinite Elohim touches man; how He brings
healing and restoration to the world; how He transform the human soul; how He dwells among His people and

The full mysteries of Yahweh is revealed to us in King Messiah YahShua.

Both lilly and rodin extract scripture from its Grammatical, Historical and Cultural context to deceive. In Matthew 4 and in Genesis 3 you read Satan quoting scripture. The problem is was in his application of what the scripture he was quoting. He conveniently left out some important context. But unlike Satan, Jesus correctly applies it. It's interesting to note, just because someone quotes scripture doesn't mean they're imparting truth correctly. Like the devil they misapply it. But most fraudulent uses of scripture can be exposed by simply reading the context of the passage instead of small bits. It's the number one reason for countless misinterpretations.
