The interesting thing I would like to point out is that
they never taught me this amazing Australian War fact
as part of history at school.
Was I not listening, or is this purposefully omitted?

I would love to know if any schools teach/taught this at all.

The next question in my (and your) head is why not?

There are so many unknown Aussie deaths on home soil
that so few Australians today remember.

Most school students are taught about D-Day,
The Darwin bombing and the Battle of Britain.
But why not all these other attacks?
Even just a brief mention?

I have spoken to a number people about this and every person thought
that Australia was only bombed twice: at Darwin.

All Australians should know this.

I realise that there were massive battles fought at the same time,
but we should not forget that these battles were fought on Australian soil.

Ex-News
International chief executive Rebekah Brooks has been arrested by
police investigating phone hacking and bribery at the News of the World.
The 43-year-old was arrested by appointment at a London police station and remains in custody.
She was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and on suspicion of corruption.
She quit News International on Friday as pressure mounted over her role in the deepening scandal.
Mrs Brooks was editor of the paper between 2000 and 2003,
during which time the phone belonging to murdered schoolgirl Milly
Dowler was tampered with.
BBC Business Editor Robert Peston said News International was
not aware that Mrs Brooks would be arrested when her resignation was
being discussed at the company on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week.
She eventually resigned on Friday.
Mr Peston added: "It's certainly the most extraordinary
development. Rebekah Brooks is incredibly close to the most powerful
people in the UK - the current prime minister, the previous prime
ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. More or less every senior person
of influence within Britain."
He said it could now potentially jeopardise her appearance at
the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee on Tuesday, where she is
due to answer MPs questions on the hacking scandal.
"I would assume having been arrested it's now almost
impossible for her to appear. It's very difficult for MPs to ask her
questions that wouldn't be seen to be impinging on the police
investigation," Peston said.
'Conspiracy theories'
A spokesman for Mrs Brooks says the Met police notified her on
Friday, after her resignation had been agreed, that she would be
arrested.
He also said her arrest would make her appearance at the committee "pretty tricky".

Liberal Democrat MP Adrian Sanders, a member of the select committee, questioned the timing of the latest arrest.
"In whose interest was it for this arrest to take place
before Tuesday? Because if it does impede what we can ask, that's not
going to go down well with my fellow committee members.

"Quite why now, just a few hours before our select committee
meets, an arrangement has been made for an arrest. A lot of people are
going to think this is very, very odd.

the same time giving a shield to Rebekah Brooks, that's a very serious
matter indeed. We don't know how much this is going to impede our
questioning until we've been able to sit down and talk it through with
the parliamentary counsel."
Another member of the select committee, Labour MP Jim
Sheridan, said he hoped her arrest would not affect her appearance
before MPs.
"The police will do whatever it is they feel necessary to do,
and if they feel it's necessary to arrest Rebekah Brooks at this time,
then so be it.
"I don't buy into the conspiracy theories that the police are
doing something underhand. I think it's just that if they feel it
necessary, then so be it. Their inquiry, it's far, far more important
than any other inquiry."
Labour MP Chris Bryant, who believes his phone was hacked, also has concerns about the timing of the arrest.
"It may be that the police are wanting to protect evidence so
that... they can lead to successful prosecutions, but there will be
plenty of people who are saying, right, this is an opportunity for her
to get out of saying things to the culture committee.
"In the end, of course, the police investigation is the most
important part of what we've been trying to seek for a long time, so we
do get to the bottom of the criminality at the News of the World."
Tenth arrest
Mrs Brooks's arrest is the tenth made by Operation Weeting
police, who are conducting the current investigation into phone hacking.

Others arrested and bailed have included ex-NoW editor Andy Coulson,
ex-NoW assistant editor Ian Edmondson, ex-NoW chief reporter Neville
Thurlbeck, senior ex-NoW journalist James Weatherup, freelance
journalist Terenia Taras, Press Association journalist Laura Elston, an
unnamed 63-year-old man, and ex-NoW royal editor Clive Goodman.
Officers from Operation Elveden were also involved with this
latest arrest. They are investigating allegations of inappropriate
payments to police, under the supervision of the Independent Police
Complaints Commission.

massive blast at a munitions dump in southern Cyprus has killed 12
people, including the commander of the country's navy, officials say.
A fire reportedly ignited about 100 containers holding confiscated Iranian explosives at the naval base at Zygi.
The fire spread to the island's largest power station. It has been knocked out, resulting in widespread power cuts.
Defence Minister Costas Papacostas and National Guard Chief Petros Tsalikides resigned over the accident.
President Dimitris Christopfias, who went to the area, described the explosion as "a catastrophe of biblical proportions".
He added: "We were devastated by this event, not so much by
the material damage, but by the loss of human lives and the injury of
many of our compatriots."
The dead also include the commander of the Evangelos Florakis
naval base, police said. About 60 people were wounded in the blast.
Government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou said sabotage had been ruled out.
Power cuts
Officials say all 98 containers of explosive stored in the munitions dump at the base had exploded.
They had been seized from a Cypriot-flagged ship, the Monchegorsk, which was intercepted travelling from Iran in January 2009.
Cyprus said the shipment violated UN sanctions against Iran.
The fire spread to the nearby Vassilikou power station -
which provides 50% of the country's electricity - knocking out the
electricity supply to many homes and businesses.

The fire has also had a knock-on effect on the BBC's broadcasts to the eastern Mediterranean.
Six of the eight transmitters in the BBC's relay station at
Zygi are without power, interrupting direct English-language broadcasts
to the Middle East.
State radio said the dead included two sailors from the Cyprus navy, two soldiers and five firefighters.
'Total mess'
The blast, which occurred at 0600 (0300 GMT), was "rather like a sonic boom", eyewitness Hermes Solomon told the BBC.
He was staying in a caravan on a campsite not far from the base.
"The doors crashed together, the glass blew in - windows,
door frames, things left their shelves. It was a total mess inside, as
though a bomb had hit the place."
State television said the blasts caused extensive damage to
property in the area and sparked wildfires in nearby scrubland in the
tinder-dry summer conditions.
"It was huge. I fell out of bed and ran to check on the kids," nearby resident Eleni Toubi told Reuters.
Alexandra Dimitriou, who was at nearby Governor's Beach at
the time of the explosion, said all the hotels in the area had their
glass blown out.
"After the blast we walked up across the beach to make sure
there were no casualties," she told the BBC. "There was a lot of panic
there. Older folk thought the Turks were invading.
"There was shattered glass everywhere. We got in the car and
left to avoid getting stuck there and on our way back to Limassol we saw
road signs which had been ripped off by the force of the explosion."

Cyprus's defence minister and army chief have resigned after a massive explosion at a munitions dump killed at least 15 people.
The blast happened at a military base where confiscated Iranian munitions were being held.
It shut down the island's largest power station, causing widespread
power cuts, including to the four British military bases on the island.
The Ministry of Defence says no British personnel were injured.
It's believed the explosion at the Evangelos Florakis naval base near
Zygi between Limassol and Larnaca may have been caused by a brush fire.
The British military bases of RAF Akrotiri, Episkopi, Dhekelia and Ayios Nikolaus have all been hit by power shortages.
With criticism mounting over how the material that exploded had been
handled and stored, Defence Minister Costas Papacostas and the country's
top military official, National Guard Chief General Petros Tsalikides,
resigned.
A government spokesman said investigators had ruled out sabotage as a
cause for the blast. He said experts will be called from abroad to help
determine the exact cause of the explosion.
President Dimitris Christofias had asked Tsalikides and Papacostas to remain in their posts until replacements were found.
The government has declared a three-day mourning period with all
flags at public buildings flying at half staff. State funerals will be
held for those killed.
The concussion wave from the blast damaged houses in nearby villages,
and knocked out the island's main power station, leading to power cuts
in several areas. Authorities appealed to the public to limit their
electricity consumption, which has spiked amid a three-day heatwave that
has led to temperatures of about 40C.
Airport authorities said both Paphos and Larnaca airports were
reducing power consumption to the minimum possible and had turned on
their generators.
The Agriculture Ministry also urged the public to reduce water
consumption as much as possible because desalination plants had been
taken offline due to power problems.
The blast occurred just one day shy of the ninth anniversary of a
fatal national guard helicopter crash that killed then National Guard
commander Evangelos Florakis - for which the naval base is named - and
four other officers.

Would you believe someone who claims to have received a personal communication from God appointing him or her as God’s new prophet?

Maybe He did. Then again, maybe He didn’t. One can never know. The claim is inherently unverifiable.

Personal revelation is an extremely weak basis for a religion since one can never know if it is indeed true. Even if the individual claiming personal revelation performs miracles, there is still no verification that he is a genuine prophet. Miracles do not prove anything. All they show—assuming they are genuine—is that he has certain powers. It has nothing to do with his claim of prophecy................................There are 15,000 known religions in all of recorded history. Given this inherent weakness, why do all of them base their claim on personal revelation? If someone wanted their religion to be accepted, why wouldn’t they present the strongest, most believable claim possible—i.e. national revelation! It’s far more credible. No one has to take a leap of faith and blindly trust just one person’s word. It is qualitatively better to claim that God came to everyone, telling the entire group that so-and-so is His prophet.

Why would God establish His entire relationship with a nation through one man, without any possibility of verification, and still expect this nation to obediently follow an entire system of instructions, based only on blind faith?

Yet, Judaism is the only religion in the annals of history that makes the best of all claims—that everyone heard God speak. No other religion claims the experience of national revelation. Why?
..................Let’s summarize two primary questions:

1. Out of 15,000 known religions in recorded history, why is Judaism the only one that claims national revelation, the best of all claims? Why do all other religions base themselves on the inherently weak assertion of personal revelation?

2. If Judaism’s claim is indeed an example of a successful hoax that falsely asserts national revelation, the author just got away with passing off the best possible claim, and others will certainly follow suit. Why then would he predict that no one else will ever make a similar claim, a prediction he knows he cannot foresee, and whose outcome is likely to be the exact opposite?

There is one simple answer to both questions. A national revelation—as opposed to personal revelation—is the one lie you cannot get away with. It is one event you cannot fabricate. The only way to make this claim is if it actually happened.

If the claim is true, the people will believe it because they are agreeing to something they already know. Either they personally witnessed it, or their ancestors collectively passed down the account as part of their nation’s accepted history.

If the claim is false, it’s like trying to convince you that God spoke to you or your parents and somehow you never heard of it. No one would ever accept such a claim.

Therefore no other religion has ever made the best of all claims, because it is the one claim that can only be made if it is true. One cannot pass national revelation off as a hoax.

When inventing a religion, the originator must resort to personal revelation, despite its inherent weakness, since it is a claim that is unverifiable. The originator can hope to find adherents willing to take a leap of faith and accept his or her religion. After all, no one can ever know it is a lie. [Of course, no one can know if it’s true either.] This simply cannot work with national revelation since it’s the one claim that everyone will know is a lie.

Only Judaism can claim national revelation since the Jewish people is the only nation in the history of mankind who ever experienced it.

With all the data Google collects about us and our search
histories, could the company use its technical prowess to help catch
terrorists and mass murderers before they commit crimes?

Norwegian daily Dagbladet reported that
terrorist Anders Breivik spent 200 days searching Google for terms such
as "how to make a bomb" before he went on his rampage.

Already Google uses data from searches to improve its targeted advertising and search rankings - and even to track the spread of the flu - leading academic ideas site The Conversation to ask the question "Why didn't Google catch the Norway killer?"

Speaking to the website, Charles Sturt University
computer science lecturer Craig Wright said he expected people in
European countries to call for search engines to monitor user behaviour
as a result of the attacks.

He said it "would be possible, but extremely difficult"
for Google to monitor searches and raise red flags for users who
frequently and repeatedly perform suspicious searches.

Wright's comments were prescient as in recent days politicians and police across Europe have called for expanded internet monitoring powers as a possible preventative measure.

Already, Wright said, the Australian Federal Police and

However "you have to get over the privacy hurdles" first, which will be a significant barrier.

Futurist, inventor and judge on ABC's The New Inventors, Mark Pesce, said: "I suspect Chinese search engine Baidu does something like this for the Chinese government."

Professor Sanjay Chawla, head of the school of
information technology at the University of Sydney, is researching how
to make machines and algorithms learn and behave like humans do. For
instance, he is helping the insurance industry design technology to
distinguish between legitimate and fraudulent claims.

Professor Chawla said using Google to spot terrorists was
a tough technical challenge as "it's very hard to train computers or

"It could work but there will be lots of false positives and that can actually hurt Google more," he said.

"The number of terrorists is actually very small to create a
meaningful profile of what the average terrorist looks like."

In the case of targeted advertising, if Google's
algorithm got it wrong the worst outcome would be slightly reduced
profits. But when picking out terrorists there is a far lower tolerance
for errors.

And the idea of Google regularly monitoring search terms
without a court order would raise significant privacy issues.

"Yes, some kinds of automated monitoring would
occasionally produce a lead. But the leads would be swamped by the
massive false positives," said Roger Clarke, chairman of the Australian
Privacy Foundation.

"And the collateral damage to freedoms would be massive."
Danny Sullivan, editor-in-chief of Search Engine Land,
raised the point that searching for something - for example bomb making
instructions - wasn't the same as actually committing the criminal act.

And he also said that searching for mass murderers could be the thin edge of the wedge.

"Would it only look at things it believes are related to
mass murder? If you were searching for recreational drugs or pirated
content, should that be picked up and reported?" said Sullivan.

Of course, any real-time monitoring would be useless
without law enforcement using it to act. It has been reported that
Breivik was flagged for illegally purchasing a large amount of chemicals
online but Norway's intelligence service decided he was likely to be
using them in his farming business.

Mr Clarke said people with serious intent would find
plenty of ways to get around the monitoring, while the suggestion that
widespread real-time monitoring could enable real-time interventions by
law enforcement agencies was "fantasy land".

But Mr Clarke said he would support tightly targeted
monitoring of people based on reasonable grounds for suspicion and
judicial warrants.

Google Australia declined to comment.

crashed off South Korea after experiencing mechanical problems.

The plane, which was flying for South Korea's Asiana
Airlines, came down off Jeju island in the very south of the country,
local media report.

It had left Incheon en route to Pudong in China.

A South Korean coast guard boat found debris from the jet
in waters about 107km (66 miles) west of Jeju city.

After taking off at 0305 (1800 GMT) the plane disappeared
from radar at 0409 while trying to reach Jeju airport, the South Korean
news agency Yonhap reports. The wreckage was spotted at 0640.

Both the pilot and co-pilot were killed.

Heavy rain has lashed South Korea this week, with landslides
and floods killing dozens and causing havoc, but Asiana Airlines said it
was unclear whether the weather had caused any problems for the plane.

The 747, nicknamed the Jumbo Jet, has been in service around the world
for more than four decades, and is still in production.

But again, there IS GOOD NEWS for those of the North: location
won't kill you, ONLY Denying The Holy Spirit of Truth can condemn

The term “Replacement Theology” is relatively new and unfamiliar to many people (in some cases, even those who believe in it). Its proponents teach that God has set aside Israel and made the Church “new Israel,” the new and improved people of God. 1. Israel’s role as the people of God was completed (economic supersessionism). This is the kinder and gentler way of stating the basic thesis of Replacement Theology. A transition occurred at that point, and the Church took over as the people of God and became the focal point for the outworking of God’s plan and purpose in redemption. God is no longer working administratively through ethnic Israel.

2. Israel’s place as the people of God was forfeited (punitive supersessionism). Other Replacement theologians are more straightforward and actually say that the supposed replacement of Israel was a divine judgment on the nation for its rejection of the Messiah in the first century. This is what some writers have called “punitive secessionism.”

Perhaps Martin Luther articulated this position most eloquently when he wrote: “For such ruthless wrath of God is sufficient evidence that they [i.e., the Jewish people] assuredly have erred and gone astray. Even a child can comprehend this. For one dare not regard God as so cruel that he would punish his own people so long, so terrible, so unmercifully … Therefore this work of wrath is proof that the Jews, surely rejected by God, are no longer his people, and neither is he any longer their God” (“On the Jews and Their Lies,” Trans. Martin H. Bertram, in Luther’s Works [Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1971], p. 265).

Common threads that weave their way through the numerous variations of supersessionism are (1) that God is finished with Israel as a nation, and (2) that the promises He made to Israel in the Old Testament have been inherited by the Church. Theological Basis

Replacement Theology is closely associated with Reformed (or Covenant) Theology, the brand of theology historically linked to John Calvin (1509-1564) and the Protestant Reformation. Reformed/Covenant Theology, in turn, is closely associated with amillennialism, an eschatological view with a spiritualized (rather than literal-historical) interpretation of the prophetic Scriptures. The natural affinity these views (that is, Replacement Theology and amillennialism) seem to have for each other is understandable because Replacement Theology relies so heavily on a non-literal and allegorical interpretation of the biblical promises to Israel.

Although many of the early Reformers and Puritans - including even Calvin himself - wrote about the nation of Israel one day being restored by the grace of God and experiencing a national regeneration, that is an increasingly marginalized, minority view in Reformed Christianity today (which is ironic, since we have seen the amazing rebirth of the nation of Israel, just as the Word of God predicted!). And even among those who allow for an end-time work of the Spirit of God among the Jewish people, there is still a reluctance to acknowledge that God is not finished with His people Israel as a nation, or to acknowledge the prospect of a future Kingdom on the Earth.

This view stands in contrast to the teachings of Dispensational Premillennialism, which affirms the continuing role that Israel plays (in tandem with the Church) in the outworking of God’s plan of redemption.

Historical Roots

Elements of Replacement Theology can be traced as far back as Marcion (A.D. 160), who carried on a theological crusade to purge the Church of what he perceived to be dangerous Jewish errors and influences. Later, many of these same anti-Judaic sentiments found their way into the thinking (and writings) of the Early Church fathers. Irenaeus (c. 180), for instance, wrote, “The Jews have rejected the Son of God and cast Him out of the vineyard when they slew Him. Therefore, God has justly rejected them and has given to the Gentiles outside the vineyard the fruits of its cultivation” (The Ante-Nicene Fathers, Ed. Alexander Roberts and James Donaldson, [1885-1887], Volume 1, p. 493).

Over time, statements like these became the basis for full-blown anti-Semitism in some sectors of Christianity. Anything Jewish was renounced as an attempt to subvert and “Judaize” the Church. Teachings like chiliasm (millenarianism), for instance, were denounced as “Jewish fables.” The Early Church, which was clearly and undeniably Jewish, was described as “primitive,” unenlightened, and beset by erroneous notions that were carry-overs from ancient Judaism.

By the seventh century, Jewish people who came to faith in the Messiah were required to denounce their Jewish ancestry and heritage before they could be baptized. Professor Paul Halsall of Fordham University cites the following Visigoth profession from c. A.D. 680-687: “I do here and now renounce every rite and observance of the Jewish religion, detesting all its most solemn ceremonies and tenets that in former days I kept and held. In future I will practice no rite or celebration connected with it, nor any custom of my past error, promising neither to seek it out or perform it. In the name of this Creed, which I truly believe and hold with all my heart, I promise that I will never return to the vomit of Jewish superstition. Never again will I fulfill any of the offices of Jewish ceremonies to which I was addicted, nor ever more hold them dear. The incredible irony here is that only a few centuries earlier, the Church had been almost exclusively Jewish! The Messiah was Jewish; the writers of the Bible were Jewish; the apostles were Jewish; the earliest Christians were Jewish; the first congregation was Jewish (located in Jerusalem); and the first missionaries were Jewish!

In fact, a council of Church leaders - including Paul, Barnabas, Peter and James - was convened at Jerusalem (Acts 15) so the leaders of the new and growing Messianic Movement (known first as “the sect of the Nazarenes,” Acts 24:5) could decide upon what conditions non-Jews would be admitted into the fellowship of the saints! But here, within just a few generations, the shoe was already on the other foot! Non-Jews were in control of the Church now. Jewish doctrines (the earthly Kingdom in particular) were considered erroneous and even seditious. And non-Jewish Church leaders were laying down the terms for Jewish believers in Jesus who wished to be baptized.

Exegetical Problems with Supersessionism

Did the sins of the Jewish nation result in her rejection? Paul’s answer is found in Romans 11: I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God has not cast away his people whom He foreknew (vv. 1-2, NKJV). I say then, have they [Israel] stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness! (vv. 11-12, NKJV). For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? (v. 15, NKJV).

If the Jewish nation has no future in God’s plan, as the supersessionists claim, then what is the future “fullness” of Israel that Paul mentions in verse 12? And when, exactly, will the nation be resurrected (“life from the dead”) and “accepted” by God (verse 15)? Paul can’t be talking about the Church in this passage because the Church has never died - and never will (John 11:26). The only reasonable answer is that Paul is referring to a yet-future resurrection and restoration of Am Israel (the “people of Israel,” a collective term for the nation), as prophesied in passages like Ezekiel 37:1-14. It doesn’t mean they will automatically be saved simply because they are Jewish; rather, it means that the majority of Jewish people who are living at that time will recognize Yeshua of Nazareth as their Messiah and receive Him as Savior (Zechariah 12:10, Romans 11:26).

They will be saved in the same way believers from all ages and generations have been saved; that is, they will be saved by grace, through faith (Eph. 2:8-10). The problem with saying that God rejected His people Israel is that the term “rejection” implies permanence and finality. Paul’s forceful statements in Romans 11 probably indicate that people were claiming, even in his day, that God had “cast away” His people Israel (v. 1). They were saying that Israel had “stumbled’ and “fallen” from her former position (vv. 11-12). Paul rejected any such notion (“Certainly not!” in verses 1 and 11). Then he goes on to say that even if we insist on saying that they were rejected, then we are forced to the conclusion that the rejection is only temporary. Even if we insist on saying that they did stumble and fall, then it must also be said that their fall brought salvation to the rest of the world (Gentiles) - and Israel’s fall, too, is only temporary because they are destined to be restored one day to a position of “fullness” (v. 12).

The “fullness of the Gentiles” (Rom. 11:25) refers to the time when the full number of non-Jewish believers has been added to the ranks of the Church and the last person has been saved. Likewise, the “fullness” of the Jewish people (v. 12) refers to the time when “all Israel shall be saved” (v. 26). As we saw earlier, that means the Jewish people en masse will recognize and receive their Messiah, Yeshua of Nazareth. There may be some dissenters - and their probably will be - but the Holy Spirit of God will do a powerful work among the Jewish people, and multitudes of them - the vast majority of them - will come to faith in the Messiah of Israel, Jesus of Nazareth.

The truth is that God is no more finished with Israel than He is finished with the Gentiles. Neither one has been replaced by the other; and God’s plan for both remains intact, in spite of their failures. This is really the crux of the issue. Replacement Theology says that Israel was rejected by God and that the rejection was permanent and irrevocable; however, we say that God’s calling on Israel was permanent and irrevocable, in spite of her many sins and shortcomings (Romans 11:29)

What Did the Apostles Believe About the Millennium?

Another problem for supersessionism and amillennialism is that these views are not in harmony with the teachings of the Apostles and the Early Church. Almost without exception, Church historians agree that chiliasm, an early form of premillennialism, was the position of the Early (Jewish) Church. In his classic, encyclopedic History of the Christian Church, Philip Schaff wrote, “The most striking point in the eschatology of the ante-Nicene Age [A.D. 100-325] is the prominent chiliasm, or millenarianism, … a widely current opinion of distinguished teachers, such as Barnabas, Papias, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Tertullian, Methodius, and Lactantius …” (Scribner, 1884; Vol. 2, p. 614).

What’s interesting about this admission is that it comes from someone who was neither evangelical nor premillennial. Schaff, in fact, was himself an ardent supersessionist! He wrote, “The carnal Jewish interpretation of the Old Testament is a diabolical perversion. The Christians, and not the Jews, are the true Israel of God and the righteous owners of the Old Testament Scriptures” (Ibid., Sec. 167, “Barnabas”). Yet as a student of history and as a scholar, he had to acknowledge that chiliasm was “prominent” in the Early Church, even though he himself despised it.

It should be noted that Papias (who believed in a future, earthly Kingdom) was a disciple of Polycarp, who in turn was a disciple of the Apostle John who actually penned the passages in the Book of Revelation about the Millennial Kingdom. Premillennialism, then, may be the only eschatological system with an unbroken link directly to the author of the Apocalypse. This means that amillennialism represents a departure from what the Early Church believed. Augustine (354-430), author of City of God, a 22-volume defense of his theological views, proposed ideas similar to what we know as amillennialism (Books 15 to 19). However, even Augustine started out as a premillennialist! It wasn’t until later in his life that he decided that the prophecies about (and promises to) Israel should be interpreted symbolically and applied to the Church, rather than being interpreted literally and applied to Israel.

The Sticking Point: Messiah’s Millennial Monarchy

Evangelicals have been busy for years trying to hammer out an understanding between premillennial dispensationalists and adherents of Reformed/Covenant Theology. Dispensationalists who have been actively pursuing this agenda (and making concessions to the opposing view) are known as “progressive dispensationalists.” The one point, however, that continues to be a fly in the ointment of reconciliation is the Millennial Kingdom. Even Covenant theologians who allow for an end-time mass conversion of the Jewish people still have difficulty accepting Israel’s role in a future, literal Kingdom on the Earth. This shows just how diverse amillennialism and premillennialism are and how difficult it is to bridge the gap between them without seriously compromising one or the other.

Why Is This Error Dangerous?

Is Replacement Theology really worth arguing about? Or is this discussion much ado about nothing? One reason it’s important to call attention to questionable theology, no matter how deeply entrenched it may be in traditional Christianity is that sooner or later, bad theology always leads to bad practice - and in this case, it already has! Replacement Theology has provided the basis for all sorts of mischief, persecution, and atrocities against the Jewish people throughout Christian history.

For example, Martin Luther, the father of the Protestant Reformation, was a supersessionist. Near the end of his life, he said that synagogues and Jewish schools should be burned to the ground, Jewish people run out of their homes, their prayer books and Talmudic writings burned, and the rabbis forbidden to preach or teach on penalty of death (“On the Jews and Their Lies,” Trans. Martin H. Bertram, in Luther’s Works [Philadelphia: Fortress Press, 1971], pp. 268-271). Luther also declared that Jewish people in Germany should be confined to their own homes and neighborhoods - a plan the Nazis implemented literally when they quarantined Jewish families in ghettos in Poland and other places before shipping them to the death camps for extermination. One historian writes: It is difficult to understand the behavior of most German Protestants in the first Nazi years unless one is aware of two things: their history and the influence of Martin Luther. The great founder of Protestantism was both a passionate anti-Semite and a ferocious believer in absolute obedience to political authority. He wanted Germany rid of the Jews. Luther’s advice was literally followed four centuries later by Hitler, Goering, and Himmler (William L. Shirer, The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich [New York: Simon & Shuster, 1960], p. 236).

No one is suggesting that anyone who believes in Replacement Theology is an anti-Semite or would agree with Luther’s statements. That would be an unfair characterization - and it certainly is not the case. It is important, nevertheless, to examine the implications and ramifications of any position, including Replacement Theology: and it is an incontestable fact that ideas similar to those of Replacement Theology have inspired some horrible atrocities against the Jewish people.

We’re Making Progress!

As we observed earlier, the term “Replacement Theology” is relatively new, and is generally avoided by adherents of supersessionism. As far as they are concerned, they’re simply espousing traditional theology - and in a sense, they are! Supersessionist ideas have been widely accepted in mainstream Christianity since the third century or so, as mainstream Christianity was gradually losing its original Jewish character. The Gentile powers-that-be in early institutional (Eastern and Western) Christianity wanted to distance themselves from Christianity’s Jewish origins. And they did!

The good new is that slowly but surely we’re making progress in our battle against Replacement Theology. Everywhere we go, all over the world, (even Arab countries!), we find believers who acknowledge Israel’s unique and ongoing place in God’s plan of the ages, and who are anxiously awaiting that Golden Age when, for the first time, “they shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the Earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Isa. 11:9).

Most Baptists today are premillennial (except for the most liberal Baptist denominations), as are many Bible churches, particularly those associated with IFCA (Independent Fundamental Churches of America) International and similar groups of independent churches. There are even premillennial Presbyterians! Our ranks are growing with every day that passes. Much of the opposition comes from the more liberal, mainline denominations and their seminaries. And it’s not merely coincidental that these are the same churches and institutions that are aligned with the anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian World and National Councils of Churches.

If you’d like to know if your church leaders believe in Replacement Theology, ask them! If they are not familiar with the term, be patient because it’s entirely possible that they have never heard it before, even if they attended seminary. Also, it’s not likely that they’ve ever knowingly aligned themselves with any view that’s anti-Semitic, anti-Judaic or anti-Israel. This may all be new to them! Ask them, very humbly and sincerely, if they believe that God rejected Israel when Israel rejected His Son in the first century and that as a result, He has no future plan or purpose for the Jewish nation. They may reply that yes, of course, Jewish people can be saved and join the Church - and to them, that means God has a plan for the Jewish people. However, that’s not what we’re asking. We want to know if they believe that God is no longer dealing with the Jewish nation - and don’t be surprised if the answer, ultimately, is in the affirmative. After all, as we saw earlier, this has been the predominant view of mainstream Christianity for centuries - roughly since the time of Augustine, in fact. Sadly, this view has become normative in much of the Church, including many denominations and their seminaries.

Let’s not be afraid to challenge theological tradition when it’s wrong. It’s our responsibility to proclaim and defend the premillennial hope of the Church - and the nation of Israel - in these days of widespread error and apostasy. We should encourage our premillennial Bible colleges and seminaries to take a stand on Replacement Theology and challenge them to produce graduates who are knowledgeable about the historical and theological issues Replacement Theology encompasses. There’s a lot we can do, and we should be doing all we can!

England star Rio Ferdinand responded to the announcement on micro-blogging site Twitter.

"England vs Holland game is off, good call. Who wants to see a game of football
when our country is in turmoil," Ferdinand wrote.

"The solution to this is not to just clean up the glass, it's to stop the glass
breaking in the first place," Ferdinand added in a separate post.

The Manchester United defender had earlier called for an end to the violence which has raged across Britain.

"The scenes on Sky news right now are shocking...what is this all in aid of??

British Olympic officials, meanwhile, expressed confidence that London would be

Police in Birmingham said violence which erupted in the city on Monday would
not impact on the third Test between England and India, due to get under
way at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

England star Kevin Pietersen described the violence in the city as "insane",
revealing that the team's city centre hotel doors had been locked as unrest flared
throughout Birmingham.

ROTHSCHILD has appointed former New South Wales Liberal Premier Nick
Greiner as chairman of its council of advisers at its Australian
business and a senior adviser globally.

The investment bank today said Mr Greiner, who was Premier and
Treasurer of NSW from 1988 to1992, would take up the roles effective
today.

Trevor Rowe, the executive chairman of Rothschild
Australia, said Mr Greiner’s public service and corporate board
experience would be of great value in providing insights to its clients.

Mr Greiner chairs a range of businesses and bodies, including Bradken,
Citigroup Australia and Infrastructure NSW. He is also deputy chairman
of CHAMP Private Equity.

Rothschild Australia recently advised SunRice on the failed takeover of

JAPANESE beverage giant Asahi Group
reportedly has trumped rival Suntory
in the race to buy Independent Liquor.

Asahi will pay about $1.21 billion to buy the company, which is
headquartered in New Zealand, from private equity companies Pacific
Equity Partners and Unitas as it moves to expand in Asia and Oceania.

Asahi has been touted as a potential rival bidder for Melbourne-based
Foster's Group, which is the target of an informal $9.5 billion takeover
offer from Anglo-African beverage giant SABMiller. Asahi will announce
its biggest acquisition soon, Nikkei newspaper reported yesterday.

Japanese firms have sought to expand in foreign markets as domestic sales suffer
from slow consumption by the country's shrinking and ageing population.

Asahi already has a foothold in the Australian soft drinks market through its
Schweppes brand and last month agreed to buy P&N Beverages Australia.

Rio Tinto chief Tom Albanese said yesterday while the debt crisis
engulfing major western economies had implications for the entire world,
China's economy would continue to grow rapidly.

And RMIT economics professor On Kit Tam said China's foreign investment program
meant there would be little impact on the Asian giant's demand for resources.

"I don't think this decline in the US rating
will have any immediate effect via China on to Australia," Prof Tam said.

"China is shielded by its foreign investment and capital controls."

China's news agency Xinhua said yesterday unless the US cut its
"gigantic military expenditure and bloated welfare costs", another ratings

But Prof Tam said China had little option but to retain its $1.2 trillion holding
of US bonds as debt-ridden Europe did not provide a reliable alternative investment.

China is now buying a quarter of Australia's exports, while the US takes just 4 per cent.

Prof Tam said despite China's efforts to rein in its high inflation rate,
which clocked in at 6.4 per cent annualised in June, the economy would
still growth about 9 per cent this year.

Mr Albanese said based on his travels through China and knowledge of the economy,
he was convinced growth would not slip below 8 per cent next year.

He told the ABC's Inside Business program yesterday
the engine room of the Chinese economy was changing.
"It's shifting a bit from commercial and higher-end residential (property
construction) to probably what would be a more middle-class residential,

But now Zara Phillips has bid farewell to Toytown.
After 12 years together, the chestnut gelding
described by Zara as “the horse of a lifetime”
formally retired in an emotional ceremony yesterday.
She said: “I think it will be quite difficult. It’s the end of an era.
He was the horse of a lifetime for me. We grew up together.”
Zara, 30, paraded her beloved horse around the arena
at Gatcombe’s Festival of British Eventing for the last time
yesterday afternoon.
The pair shared success when they were crowned World
Eventing champions five years ago and took home gold and
silver medals at the 2006 World Equestrian Games,
but they never made it to the Olympics despite several
attempts.
A leg injury forced Toytown out of the running
for the 2004 Athens Olympics
and an injury during final preparations
for the 2008 Beijing Olympics forced
the pair to give up their place in the British team.
The royal newlywed has postponed her honeymoon
with husband Mike Tindall,
32, and is reportedly busy looking at “two or three”
newhorses, one of which she hopes
will take to the podium
at the London Olympics in 2012.
She has said: “I have had my horse of a lifetime.
The horses I have had since then have been in a massive shadow.”
Toytown,
who was bought for Zara by her father Captain Mark Philips,
will now live at her motherPrincess Anne’s
estate at Gatcombe Park,

has been uploaded on YouTube.

Police aretrying to trace
the account holder,
whose uploaded under
the alias "FreeMartinBryant".
The nine-minute evidence video
was stolen from the Tasmanian Police archive.
It contains graphic images of some of the 35 people shot dead at the
tourist spot, and police last night were trying to have it removed from
the internet.
FreeMartinBryant's user profile contains more than
20 videos pertaining to "conspiracies" surrounding the events of Port
Arthur, with several videos pertaining to Bryant's "innocence".
It is unknown how the footage was obtained,
but it also appeared on the internet in 2004 .
"Unfortunately this isn't the first time that this training video has turned up in the
wider community," Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard said.

"It has been known for some years that copies of the police training video have found their way into the public domain.
"A copy was located at a public tip in 2004, which led to an investigation."
Police Minister David O'Byrne said the footage was unlikely to have been stolen recently.
The video archive was upgraded in 2004.
"Tasmania Police changed their procedures after discovering the material may be
in the public domain, in 2004," he said. "I'm advised no breach has
occurred since then and that the current procedures for handling such
material are secure."
Police are greatly concerned about the effect the video could have on the wider community.
"It is highly distressing not only for the families of the victims, but for
the community, for these images to be available on the internet," Mr
Tilyard said.

Trauma psychologist Paul Stevenson, who worked for many years with many
of the survivors and victims' families, shared the disbelief and horror
about the posted video.

"To post this is a nasty, terrible thing to have occurred," the Brisbane-based consultant psychologist said.
"By watching or hearing it is a re-experience - all of those things people
felt at the time come back. The tragedy occurs all over.
"This is very distressing ...
a real worry for families of victims
because
this is exactly what triggers
post-traumatic stress."

Hobart has put on a chilly welcome for Dutch royals the Prince
of Orange Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima.

Premier Paul Lennon and Governor William Cox braved icy winds to
meet the royal couple from the Netherlands at Hobart airport on
Wednesday afternoon.

"We are very pleased and honoured that their royal highnesses
have chosen to include Tasmania in their Australian visit," Mr
