Happy Mondays star Bez is jailed after court rap refusal
Happy Mondays star Bez was jailed yesterday after a dramatic court row with magistrates over an attack on his ex-girlfriend.
The former Celebrity Big Brother winner was earlier found guilty of trying to strangle Monica Ward.
But when magistrates ordered him to do 100 hours' community service, he blasted:
"I'm not doing it. Bothered."
Chair of the bench Marie Cash asked if he was going to comply with the order.
When he replied "no" she gave him four weeks' jail.
As he was led away in handcuffs Bez, 46, shouted:
"Expect an appeal soon. Victory is in my grasp."
Bez - real name Mark Berry - had last week been found guilty of the attack on singer Monica, 43.
After his jailing, Bez's solicitor Peter Etherall told Manchester magistrates dancer Bez would now like to accept the community order.
Bail was refused.

A notorious drug user, one urban myth has it that the baggy icon imported the first shipment of Ecstasy into Manchester.
In court, Monica Ward testified that Bez lost control and put both hands around her neck,

"He told me he was going to kill me before the police arrived".
