OUTGOING South Australian Premier Mike Rann says it's up to others to judge him.

But the man often dubbed "media Mike" is not shy about listing his government's achievements since coming to office in 2002.

By any measure it's a reasonably impressive list.

In recent weeks the premier has signed-off on the banning of mining in the
environmentally-sensitive Arkaroola Sanctuary in the Flinders Ranges
and also the deal to have BHP Billiton spend $30 billion expanding the
Olympic Dam copper and uranium mine.

Over the past decade it has also increased spending on health and education,
opening new schools and employing more doctors and nurses.

It has also built a desalination plant, started construction on a new central hospital and
approved the major redevelopment of Adelaide Oval.

Mike Rann: The man who 'saved' Arkaroola Adelaide Now, 4 days ago

In defence, SA secured the contracts to build the Navy's next fleet of submarines
and also the air warfare destroyers.

The Government has also championed renewable energy, with SA now generating
more than half the nation's wind power and becoming a leader in solar power.

But there's been issues too.

Mr Rann has been forced to deny an affair with a former parliamentary waitress and
watched on as his deputy and long-serving treasurer Kevin Foley was twice assaulted.

A Labor MP was also charged
with child pornography offences
and was suspended from the ALP while there have also been
a simmering row with the union movement
over cuts to public sector jobs and conditions.

That row has characterised the sometimes wider criticism levelled at Mr Rann
and his government, that they don't always listen to the people or properly consult
before finalising projects or policies.

In a balancing act, the wins probably outweigh the losses, but as Mr Rann suggests,
the final say will be up to others.

"Overall I think that one day people will probably say all of these things were
about a state that's more confident about itself, more outward looking,"
he says.

"That we're a destination again rather than a beloved home town that people
had to leave to find opportunities elsewhere."

More personally, Mr Rann says being the SA Premier has been the
"greatest privilege of my life".

"I wanted to leave the state in better shape than I found it, and I wanted
to leave the party in better shape than when I took over," he says.

"I think on both of those there's big tick."

Mr Rann is expected to officially stand down as premier tomorrow.

Some like to separate the planning and buying functions by calling it
communications planning or channel planning and traders or investors.
We simply call it implementation planning.

The two functions are intrinsically linked, we believe in one cohesive approach
with media owners to access every available asset for the best possible price.

The key reason being that channel mix, media weight and opportunities
to create memorable campaigns are relevant to cost and the key to a
‘win’ negotiation is not to be divided.

And please, don't get hysterical, imagining some sort of damnation
of anyone working for such, well any, company. It's part of the beautiful,
gracious care God puts into His Timing of revelations, to every individual,
to the degrees and depths that best suit His Ultimate, Perfect, Just Purpose.

Hell, it would be, hell, if we all needed to become expert at industrial and
political spying, before taking on work. What matters To God, is that we
want to serve Him well, by serving our fellow man well. Simply doing,
whatever job we have at hand to do, with the integrity of a faithful servant.

We are no more to bear our masters sins, than our children are to bear ours.

And where some are called to 'great' works of ruler-ship, science, etc., others
are called to equally 'great' works of gardening, labouring etc., and all of us,
will be judged, not by the 'greatness' of what we achieve, nor our 'failures', but,
by the motivations of our hearts, in every 'big' and 'little' thing we do.
