Confident Wales planning to run French ragged
adrenaline rush of international rugby subsides.
It's not quite the witching hour but lock Luke Charteris says there's a mental and physiological edge that sweeps through the Welsh dragons' ranks at about 60 minutes into a test match.
"We know we can go out really hard 'early doors' and still know we will have something left in the tank at the end of the game," Charteris said ahead of tonight's World Cup semifinal against France.
"Everyone can get by on adrenaline and excitement for the first half hour or even 50-60 minutes even ... the last half-hour, 20 minutes is when all that work starts to kick in.
"That's when you either start to wilt, start to drop off tackles and drop balls or you are going strong and putting in the hard yards, which is what the boys have so far been able to do."
Wales' gruelling July training sessions in Poland have become a folklore of sorts after the players were subject to cryotherapy, their bodies frozen to -120C, a process that speeds recovery and allows athletes to pack in an unnatural diet of weights and fitness work into a small time frame.
The moment though when the benefits dawned on the Welsh players did not come as they stepped out of the phone-booth sized chambers, or even during the fitness tests that followed.
It came as they sat in a losing dressing room at Twickenham in August.
