Amateur photographer Rob Bullen seizes his chance to capture Discovery approaching the International Space Station from his back garden

An amateur photographer has pulled off the once-in-a-lifetime feat of capturing the space shuttle approaching the International Space Station - from his back garden in the Forest of Dean.

Using just a mid-range digital camera and a 20-year-old telescope, astronomy enthusiast Rob Bullen was amazed to get the shot.

I would like to ask Goldy what she makes of that photograph. Given that Goldy says people cannot survive flying in the Van Allen Belts how does she explain the fact that both the ISS and the STS (when its up there) fly in the belts for a total of 8 hours a day everyday. If the whack jobs are correct then shouldn't the ISS and STS crews all be dropping down dead? The Aollo guys got the same time in the belts for their total mission as an STS crew member gets in a day. Dont forget also that some crew members stay up there for months at a time.

They will probably suffer genetic damage long term from the radiation, but short term they'll be healthy enough as space tools go.

Anyway I've changed my views slightly on the VAB, although they're dangerous and unpredictable, they are far easier to get through than the Kuiper Belt is going to be, size, weight and substance will have to be spot on and then there's no guarantee they'll get through. Incidentally the Kuiper Belt is like a rainbow too. If Voyager 1 makes it through the Heliopause or the Bow shock to interstellar Medium, I'll be very suprised.

Well if its true he should have proof or atleast say why he suspects it might be true. Threre plent of data that shows hes talking out of his arse.

I haven't been talking shite about the VAB's for years, your conception of time is deluded just like your belief that the 69 film of the landing on the the moon was genuine. lol's
I reckon the VAB's are further away than first thought, allowing travel to the moon possible but no further, like Tsarion said 'You can go to the moon but no further'. Your just not allowed out unless you fit the requirements (weight, size and substance) by law of the universe. Maybe Voyager 1&2 fit the criteria but I doubt they'll get through to interstellar Medium.
