8 The daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard,
like a hut in a field of melons,
like a besieged city.
27 Zion shall be redeemed with justice,
and her converts with righteousness.

Is 2:3
Many peoples shall go and say,
“Come, let’s go up to the mountain of Yahweh,
to the house of the God of Jacob;
and he will teach us of his ways,
and we will walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion the law shall go forth,
and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.

Is 3:16,17
16 Moreover Yahweh said, “Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,

walking to trip as they go,
jingling ornaments on their feet;
17 therefore the Lord brings sores on the crown of the head of the women of Zion,
and Yahweh will make their scalps bald.”

Is 4:3-5
3 It will happen, that he who is left in Zion, and he who remains in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even everyone who is written among the living in Jerusalem;
4 when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from its midst, by the spirit of justice, and by the spirit of burning.

Is 8:18
Behold, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Yahweh of Armies, who dwells in Mount Zion.

12 Therefore it will happen that, when the Lord has performed his whole work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the willful proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the insolence of his haughty looks.
24 Therefore the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, says “My people who dwell in Zion, don’t be afraid of the Assyrian, though he strike you with the rod, and lift up his staff against you, as Egypt did.

Is 18:7

Is 29:8
It will be like when a hungry man dreams, and behold, he eats; but he awakes, and his hunger isn’t satisfied; or like when a thirsty man dreams, and behold, he drinks; but he awakes, and behold, he is faint, and he is still thirsty. The multitude of all the nations that fight against Mount Zion will be like that.

Is 30:19
For the people will dwell in Zion at Jerusalem. You will weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the voice of your cry. When he hears you, he will answer you.

Is 31:4,9
4 For thus says Yahweh to me,
“As the lion and the young lion growling over his prey,
if a multitude of shepherds is called together against him,
will not be dismayed at their voice,
nor abase himself for the noise of them,
so Yahweh of Armies will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its heights.
9 His rock will pass away by reason of terror,
and his princes will be afraid of the banner,”
says Yahweh, whose fire is in Zion,
and his furnace in Jerusalem.

Is 33:5,14,20
5 Yahweh is exalted, for he dwells on high.
He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid.
Trembling has seized the godless ones.
Who among us can live with the devouring fire?
Who among us can live with everlasting burning?
20 Look at Zion, the city of our appointed festivals.
Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet habitation,
a tent that won’t be removed.
Its stakes will never be plucked up,
nor will any of its cords be broken.

Is 34:8
For Yahweh has a day of vengeance,
a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.

The Yahweh’s ransomed ones will return,
and come with singing to Zion;

and sorrow and sighing will flee away.”

22 this is the word which Yahweh has spoken concerning him. The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.
32 For out of Jerusalem a remnant will go forth, and survivors will escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of Yahweh of Armies will perform this.’

Is 40:9
You who tell good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain.
You who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength.
Lift it up. Don’t be afraid.
Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold, your God!”

Is 41:27
I am the first to say to Zion, ‘Behold, look at them;’
and I will give one who brings good news to Jerusalem.

Is 46:13
I bring near my righteousness, it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not wait; and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.

Is 49:14
But Zion said, Yahweh has forsaken me, and the Lord has forgotten me.

Is 51:3,11,16
3 For Yahweh has comforted Zion; he has comforted all her waste places, and has made her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Yahweh; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.
11 The ransomed of Yahweh shall return, and come with singing to Zion; and everlasting joy shall be on their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
16 I have put my words in your mouth, and have covered you in the shadow of my hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and tell Zion, You are my people.

Is 52:1,2,7,8
1 Awake, awake, put on your strength, Zion; put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.
2 Shake yourself from the dust; arise, sit on your throne, Jerusalem: loose yourself from the bonds of your neck, captive daughter of Zion.
7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns!
8 The voice of your watchmen! they lift up the voice, together do they sing; for they shall see eye to eye, when Yahweh returns to Zion.

Is 59:20
A Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those who turn from disobedience in Jacob, says Yahweh.

The sons of those who afflicted you shall come bending to you; and all those who despised you shall bow themselves down at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you The city of Yahweh, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Is 61:3
to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, that he may be glorified.

Is 62:1,11
1 For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her righteousness go forth as brightness, and her salvation as a lamp that burns.
11 Behold, Yahweh has proclaimed to the end of the earth, Say you to the daughter of Zion, Behold, your salvation comes; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.

Is 64:10
Your holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

Is 66:8
Who has heard such a thing? who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? shall a nation be brought forth at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

Jr 3:14
Return, backsliding children, says Yahweh; for I am a husband to you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

Jr 4:6,31
6 Set up a standard toward Zion: flee for safety, don’t stay; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.
31 For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, the anguish as of her who brings forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, who gasps for breath, who spreads her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul faints before the murderers.

Jr 6:2,23
2 The comely and delicate one, the daughter of Zion, will I cut off.
23 They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea, and they ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Zion.

Jr 8:19
Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: isn’t Yahweh in Zion? Isn’t her King in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their engraved images, and with foreign vanities?

Jr 9:19
For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we ruined! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.

Jr 14:19
Have you utterly rejected Judah? has your soul loathed Zion? why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!

Jr 26:18
Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

Jr 30:17
For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh; because they have called you an outcast, saying, It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.

Jr 31:6,12
6 For there shall be a day, that the watchmen on the hills of Ephraim shall cry, Arise you, and let us go up to Zion to Yahweh our God.
12 They shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, and to the new wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

Jr 50:5,28
5 They shall inquire concerning Zion with their faces turned toward it, saying, Come you, and join yourselves to Yahweh in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.
28 The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Yahweh our God, the vengeance of his temple.

Jr 51:10,24,35
10 Yahweh has brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of Yahweh our God.
24 I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, says Yahweh.
35 The violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and, My blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

Lm 1:4,6,17
4 The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly;
all her gates are desolate, her priests do sigh:
her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness.
6 From the daughter of Zion all her majesty is departed:
her princes are become like harts that find no pasture,
they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
17 Zion spreads forth her hands; there is none to comfort her;
Yahweh has commanded concerning Jacob, that those who are around him should be his adversaries:
Jerusalem is among them as an unclean thing.

Lm 2:1,4,6,8,10,13,18
1 How has the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger!
He has cast down from heaven to the earth the beauty of Israel,
And hasn’t remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.
4 He has bent his bow like an enemy, he has stood with his right hand as an adversary,
Has killed all that were pleasant to the eye:
In the tent of the daughter of Zion he has poured out his wrath like fire.
6 He has violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were of a garden; he has destroyed his place of assembly:
Yahweh has caused solemn assembly and Sabbath to be forgotten in Zion,
Has despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.
8 Yahweh has purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion;
He has stretched out the line, he has not withdrawn his hand from destroying;
He has made the rampart and wall to lament; they languish together.
10 The elders of the daughter of Zion sit on the ground, they keep silence;
They have cast up dust on their heads; they have girded themselves with sackcloth:
The virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.
13 What shall I testify to you? what shall I liken to you, daughter of Jerusalem?
What shall I compare to you, that I may comfort you, virgin daughter of Zion?
For your breach is great like the sea: who can heal you?
18 Their heart cried to the Lord:
wall of the daughter of Zion, let tears run down like a river day and night;
Give yourself no respite; don’t let the apple of your eye cease.

Lm 4:2,11,22
2 The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold,
How are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
11 Yahweh has accomplished his wrath, he has poured out his fierce anger;
He has kindled a fire in Zion, which has devoured its foundations.
22 The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, daughter of Zion; he will no more carry you away into captivity:
He will visit your iniquity, daughter of Edom; he will uncover your sins.

Lm 5:11,18
11 They ravished the women in Zion,
The virgins in the cities of Judah.
18 For the mountain of Zion, which is desolate:
The foxes walk on it.

Jl 2:1,15,23,32
1 Blow the trumpet in Zion,
and sound an alarm in my holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,
for the day of Yahweh comes,
for it is close at hand:
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion!
Sanctify a fast.
Call a solemn assembly.
23 “Be glad then, you children of Zion,
and rejoice in Yahweh, your God;
for he gives you the former rain in just measure,
and he causes the rain to come down for you,
the former rain and the latter rain,
as before.
32 It will happen that whoever will call on the name of Yahweh shall be saved;
for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape,
as Yahweh has said,
and among the remnant, those whom Yahweh calls.

Jl 3:16,17,21
16 Yahweh will roar from Zion,
and thunder from Jerusalem;
and the heavens and the earth will shake;
but Yahweh will be a refuge to his people,
and a stronghold to the children of Israel.
17 “So you will know that I am Yahweh, your God,
dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain.
Then Jerusalem will be holy,
and no strangers will pass through her any more.
21 I will cleanse their blood,
that I have not cleansed:
for Yahweh dwells in Zion.”

Am 1:2
He said:
“Yahweh will roar from Zion,
and utter his voice from Jerusalem;
and the pastures of the shepherds will mourn,
and the top of Carmel will wither.”

Am 6:1
Woe to those who are at ease in Zion,
and to those who are secure on the mountain of Samaria,
the notable men of the chief of the nations,
to whom the house of Israel come!

Ob 1:17,21
17 But in Mount Zion, there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. The house of Jacob will possess their possessions.
21 Saviors will go up on Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, and the kingdom will be Yahweh’s.

Mc 1:13
Harness the chariot to the swift steed, inhabitant of Lachish.
She was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion;
For the transgressions of Israel were found in you.

Mc 3:10,12
10 They build up Zion with blood,
and Jerusalem with iniquity.
12 Therefore Zion for your sake will be plowed like a field,
and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble,
and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.

Mc 4:2,7,8,10,11,13
2 Many nations will go and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh,
and to the house of the God of Jacob;
and he will teach us of his ways,
and we will walk in his paths.”
For out of Zion will go forth the law,
and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem;
7 and I will make that which was lame a remnant,
and that which was cast far off a strong nation:
and Yahweh will reign over them on Mount Zion from then on, even forever.”
8 You, tower of the flock, the hill of the daughter of Zion,
to you it will come,
yes, the former dominion will come,
the kingdom of the daughter of Jerusalem.
10 Be in pain, and labor to bring forth, daughter of Zion,
like a woman in travail;
for now you will go forth out of the city,
and will dwell in the field,
and will come even to Babylon.
There you will be rescued.
There Yahweh will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.
11 Now many nations have assembled against you, that say,
“Let her be defiled,
and let our eye gloat over Zion.”
13 Arise and thresh, daughter of Zion;
for I will make your horn iron,
and I will make your hoofs brass;
and you will beat in pieces many peoples:
and I will devote their gain to Yahweh,
and their substance to the Lord of the whole earth.

Zp 3:14,16
14 Sing, daughter of Zion! Shout, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem.
16 In that day, it will be said to Jerusalem, “Don’t be afraid, Zion. Don’t let your hands be slack.”

Zc 1:14,17
14 So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
17 “Proclaim further, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”

Zc 2:7,10
7 ‘Come, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.’
10 Sing and rejoice, daughter of Zion; for, behold, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of you,’ says Yahweh.

Zc 8:2,3
2 Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath.”
3 Thus says Yahweh: “I have returned to Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called ‘The City of Truth;’ and the mountain of Yahweh of Armies, ‘The Holy Mountain.’”

Zc 9:9,13
9 Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion!
Shout, daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king comes to you!
He is righteous, and having salvation;
lowly, and riding on a donkey,
even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
13 For indeed I bend Judah as a bow for me.
I have filled the bow with Ephraim;
and I will stir up your sons, Zion,
against your sons, Greece,
and will make you like the sword of a mighty man.

He remembers His covenant forever,
The word He commanded
to a thousand generations,
The covenant He made with Abraham,
And the oath He swore to Isaac,
And confirmed it to Jacob as a decree,
To Israel for an everlasting covenant,
Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan,
as your allotted inheritance.” *

-Psalm 105:8-11

God chose a specific people - the Jews,
And gave them a specific land - Canaan.
This CHOICE and this TITLE DEED are ETERNAL.

Through the Jews, God gave to the world His written word - the Bible. Among other things, the Bible details the history of the Jewish people - past, present, and future. It clearly foretold each of the times they were to be uprooted from their land and then restored to it again:

1. The Egyptian bondage - followed by The Exodus under Moses and the conquest of Canaan.

2. The Assyrian & Babylonian captivities - followed by The Return under Ezra and Nehemiah.

3. The worldwide Dispersion/"Diaspora" - followed by The Restoration of recent decades.

Whether in their land or absent from it, their ultimate and permanent possession of it is guaranteed by The Word Of God. The reality of this most recent Restoration is abundantly evident everyday in our newspapers, TV, current events magazines, and other news media.

This website is, first and foremost, a BIBLICAL resource - with the goal of collecting and categorizing EVERYTHING in the Bible concerning The Chosen People and their connection to The Promised Land. It is firmly based on the belief that the Bible is, in fact, The Word of God - that God meant what He said, and said what He meant, and always knows what He's talking about. Rather than being a collection of Bible studies or commentary written about Israel and the Jews, this website simply brings together all available scriptures under each of the various topics and just allows the Bible to speak for itself. The Word of God is Powerful (Hebrews 4:12) and the entrance of God's Word gives Light and Understanding (Psalm 119:130). Men have many opinions about many things, but "let God be true and every man a liar" (Romans 3:4).

Most of the pages in this website are complete lists of scripture verses arranged under dozens of various topics related to The Chosen People, The Promised Land, The Borders of Israel, Jerusalem, and Israel's Friends and Foes. The Details area takes a closer look at everything the Bible says about each of the nations dispossessed from Canaan and each of the specific border locations of The Promised Land, including Maps and available geographic information. FAQ has a few Frequently Asked Questions about this website and it's contents. Odds & Ends includes various items - a Sitemap for this website, Scripture Lists of all the Bible verses used in this website, an extensive Historical Timeline, Interesting Facts about the modern nation of Israel, some relevant Quotes, and a few Photos. The Links page attempts to collect links to all of the BEST websites related to The Chosen People and The Promised Land.

It's been said that up to 1/3 of the whole Bible is prophetic, and that 2/3 of those prophecies have already been fulfilled - with 100% accuracy! The remaining 1/3 will also be fulfilled - just as accurately, and perhaps sooner than any of us realize. It's also been said that the single most common topic of prophecy in the entire Bible is the promised Restoration of the nation of Israel in these Last Days.

Israel is the
"Center of Gravity"
around which all of
Bible Prophecy revolves.

This website is a "Work in Progress" and has been updated many times since it's first appearance online. Work is still being done on filling in the blanks and adding flesh to the bones. A few of the newest pages are not yet complete, still being researched in the Bible and elsewhere. It's all nearing completion with the help and blessings of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Shalom
- in every sense of the word.

Mt. Zion
Also known as Mount Sion, the Upper City, the Southwestern Hill

The modern Mt. Zion is a misnomer applied by Byzantine pilgrims who thought that the larger, flatter Western Hill must be the original City of David. Archaeological evidence has shown that this hill was only incorporated within the city's fortifications in the 8th century B.C. but the name has stuck. The Hinnom Valley borders this hill on its western and southern sides.

The Promised Land:

Is God's Land

Lv 25:23
“‘The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is mine; for you are strangers and live as foreigners with me.

2Sm 7:23
What one nation in the earth is like your people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem to himself for a people, and to make him a name, and to do great things for you, and awesome things for your land, before your people, whom you redeem to you out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

1Kg 8:36
then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, and of your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on your land, which you have given to your people for an inheritance.

2Kg 17:26,27
26 Therefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which you have carried away, and placed in the cities of Samaria, don’t know the law of the god of the land: therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them, because they don’t know the law of the god of the land.
27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land.

2Ch 6:27
then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, and of your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on your land, which you have given to your people for an inheritance.

2Ch 7:20
then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

2Ch 20:11
behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.

Ps 10:16
Yahweh is King forever and ever!
The nations will perish out of his land.

Ps 85:1
Yahweh, you have been favorable to your land.
You have restored the fortunes of Jacob.

Is 14:2,25
2 The peoples will take them, and bring them to their place. The house of Israel will possess them in Yahweh’s land for servants and for handmaids. They will take as captives those whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.
25 that I will break the Assyrian in my land, and tread him under foot on my mountains. Then his yoke will leave them, and his burden leave their shoulders.

Jr 2:7
I brought you into a plentiful land, to eat its fruit and its goodness; but when you entered, you defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.

Jr 16:18
First I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled my inheritance with their abominations.

Ezk 36:5,20
5 therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.
20 When they came to the nations, where they went, they profaned my holy name; in that men said of them, These are the people of Yahweh, and are gone forth out of his land.

Ezk 38:16,21
16 and you shall come up against my people Israel, as a cloud to cover the land: it shall happen in the latter days, that I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when I shall be sanctified in you, Gog, before their eyes.
21 I will call for a sword against him to all my mountains, says the Lord Yahweh: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.

Hs 9:3
They won’t dwell in Yahweh’s land;
but Ephraim will return to Egypt,
and they will eat unclean food in Assyria.

Jl 1:6
For a nation has come up on my land, strong, and without number.
His teeth are the teeth of a lion,
and he has the fangs of a lioness.

Jl 2:18
Then Yahweh was jealous for his land,
And had pity on his people.

Jl 3:2
will gather all nations,
and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat;
and I will execute judgment on them there for my people,
and for my heritage, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations.
They have divided my land,

Zc 2:12
Yahweh will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.

Zc 9:16
Yahweh their God will save them in that day as the flock of his people;
for they are like the jewels of a crown,
lifted on high over his land.

Why thank you very much........

The Promised Land:

The Land is Eternal

http://www.biblicalzionist.com/LandEternal.html

Gn 13:15
for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever.

Gn 17:8
I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land where you are traveling, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. I will be their God.”

Gn 48:4
and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples, and will give this land to your seed after you for an everlasting possession.’

Ex 32:13
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.’”

Lv 25:34
But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.

Dt 4:40
You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh your God gives you, forever.

Jsh 14:9
Moses swore on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have wholly followed Yahweh my God.

Jdg 2:1
The angel of Yahweh came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you:

1Ch 16:15-18
15 Remember his covenant forever,
the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
16 the covenant which he made with Abraham,
his oath to Isaac.
17 He confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute,
and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
18 saying, I will you give the land of Canaan,
The lot of your inheritance,

1Ch 28:8
Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of Yahweh, and in the audience of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of Yahweh your God; that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever.

2Ch 20:7
Did not you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever?

Ezr 9:12
now therefore don’t give your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters to your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity forever; that you may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children forever.

Ps 105:8-11
8 He has remembered his covenant forever,
the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
9 the covenant which he made with Abraham,
his oath to Isaac,
10 and confirmed the same to Jacob for a statute;
to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan,
the lot of your inheritance;”

Ps 125:1
Those who trust in Yahweh are as Mount Zion,
which can’t be moved, but remains forever.

Is 60:21
Your people also shall be all righteous; they shall inherit the land forever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

Jr 31:40
The whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields to the brook Kidron, to the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy to Yahweh; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more forever.

Ezk 37:25
They shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant, in which your fathers lived; and they shall dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children’s children, forever: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever.

Jl 3:20
But Judah will be inhabited forever,
and Jerusalem from generation to generation.

Am 9:15
I will plant them on their land,
and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them,”
says Yahweh your God.

Mc 4:7
and I will make that which was lame a remnant,
and that which was cast far off a strong nation:
and Yahweh will reign over them on Mount Zion from then on, even forever.”

The Chosen People:

Regathered to The Land

http://www.biblicalzionist.com/Regathered.html

Dt 30:1-5
1 It shall happen, when all these things are come on you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you shall call them to mind among all the nations, where Yahweh your God has driven you,
2 and shall return to Yahweh your God, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul;
3 that then Yahweh your God will turn your captivity, and have compassion on you, and will return and gather you from all the peoples, where Yahweh your God has scattered you.
4 If any of your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of the heavens, from there will Yahweh your God gather you, and from there he will bring you back:
5 and Yahweh your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it; and he will do you good, and multiply you above your fathers.

Ezr 2:1
Now these are the children of the province, who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, everyone to his city;

Neh 1:8,9
8 Remember, I beg you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, If you trespass, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples:
9 but if you return to me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet will I gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.

Ps 53:6
Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When God brings back his people from captivity,
then Jacob shall rejoice,
and Israel shall be glad.

Ps 106:47
Save us, Yahweh, our God,
gather us from among the nations,
to give thanks to your holy name,
to triumph in your praise!

Ps 107:2-7
2 Let the redeemed by Yahweh say so,
whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,
3 And gathered out of the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way.
They found no city to live in.
5 Hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried to Yahweh in their trouble,
and he delivered them out of their distresses,
7 he led them also by a straight way,
that they might go to a city to live in.

Ps 126:1-4
1 When Yahweh brought back those who returned to Zion,
we were like those who dream.
2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with singing.
Then they said among the nations,
“Yahweh has done great things for them.”
3 Yahweh has done great things for us,
and we are glad.
4 Restore our fortunes again, Yahweh,
like the streams in the Negev.

Ps 147:2
Yahweh builds up Jerusalem.
He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.

Is 11:11,12,16
11 It will happen in that day that the Lord will set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
12 He will set up a banner for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
16 There will be a highway for the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, like there was for Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.

Is 14:1,2
1 For Yahweh will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land. The foreigner will join himself with them, and they will unite with the house of Jacob.
2 The peoples will take them, and bring them to their place. The house of Israel will possess them in Yahweh’s land for servants and for handmaids. They will take as captives those whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.

Is 27:6,12,13
6 In days to come, Jacob will take root. Israel will blossom and bud. They will fill the surface of the world with fruit.
12 It will happen in that day, that Yahweh will thresh from the flowing stream of the Euphrates to the brook of Egypt; and you will be gathered one by one, children of Israel.
13 It will happen in that day that a great trumpet will be blown; and those who were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and those who were outcasts in the land of Egypt, shall come; and they will worship Yahweh in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

Is 35:10
The Yahweh’s ransomed ones will return,
and come with singing to Zion;
and everlasting joy will be on their heads.
They will obtain gladness and joy,
and sorrow and sighing will flee away.”

Is 41:8,9
8 “But you, Israel, my servant,
Jacob whom I have chosen,
the seed of Abraham my friend,
9 You whom I have taken hold of from the ends of the earth,
and called from its corners,
and said to you, ‘You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you away;’

Is 43:5,6
5 Don’t be afraid; for I am with you.
I will bring your seed from the east,
and gather you from the west.
6 I will tell the north, ‘Give them up!’
and tell the south, ‘Don’t hold them back!
Bring my sons from far,
and my daughters from the ends of the earth—

Is 49:11-13,18,22
11 I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.
12 Behold, these shall come from far; and behold, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.
13 Sing, heavens; and be joyful, earth; and break forth into singing, mountains: for Yahweh has comforted his people, and will have compassion on his afflicted.
18 Lift up your eyes all around, and see: all these gather themselves together, and come to you. As I live, says Yahweh, you shall surely clothe you with them all as with an ornament, and gird yourself with them, like a bride.
22 Thus says the Lord Yahweh, Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations, and set up my banner to the peoples; and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.

Is 51:11
The ransomed of Yahweh shall return, and come with singing to Zion; and everlasting joy shall be on their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Is 54:7
For a small moment have I forsaken you; but with great mercies will I gather you.

Is 56:8
The Lord Yahweh, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, says, Yet will I gather others to him, besides his own who are gathered.

Is 60:4,8,9
4 Lift up your eyes all around, and see: they all gather themselves together, they come to you; your sons shall come from far, and your daughters shall be carried in the arms.
8 Who are these who fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?
9 Surely the islands shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, for the name of Yahweh your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because he has glorified you.

Is 66:20
They shall bring all your brothers out of all the nations for an offering to Yahweh, on horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and on mules, and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says Yahweh, as the children of Israel bring their offering in a clean vessel into the house of Yahweh.

Jr 3:14
Return, backsliding children, says Yahweh; for I am a husband to you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

Jr 16:14-16
14 Therefore, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that it shall no more be said, As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
15 but, As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the countries where he had driven them. I will bring them again into their land that I gave to their fathers.
16 Behold, I will send for many fishermen, says Yahweh, and they shall fish them up; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.

Jr 23:3,7,8
3 I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and multiply.
7 Therefore, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that they shall no more say, As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
8 but, As Yahweh lives, who brought up and who led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all the countries where I had driven them. They shall dwell in their own land.

Jr 24:6
For I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

Jr 29:10,14
10 For thus says Yahweh, After seventy years are accomplished for Babylon, I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return to this place.
14 I will be found by you, says Yahweh, and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you, says Yahweh; and I will bring you again to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.

Jr 30:3,10,18
3 For, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will turn again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, says Yahweh; and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
10 Therefore don’t you be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh; neither be dismayed, Israel: for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.
18 Thus says Yahweh: Behold, I will turn again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have compassion on his dwelling places; and the city shall be built on its own hill, and the palace shall be inhabited after its own manner.

Jr 31:8-12,16,17,21,23
8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her who travails with child together: a great company shall they return here.
9 They shall come with weeping; and with petitions will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.
10 Hear the word of Yahweh, you nations, and declare it in the islands afar off; and say, He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as shepherd does his flock.
11 For Yahweh has ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.
12 They shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, and to the new wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.
16 Thus says Yahweh: Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says Yahweh; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.
17 There is hope for your latter end, says Yahweh; and your children shall come again to their own border.
21 Set up road signs, make guideposts; set your heart toward the highway, even the way by which you went: turn again, virgin of Israel, turn again to these your cities.
23 Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, Yet again shall they use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I shall bring again their captivity: Yahweh bless you, habitation of righteousness, mountain of holiness.

Jr 32:37,41,42
37 Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries, where I have driven them in my anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation; and I will bring them again to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:
41 Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.
42 For thus says Yahweh: Like as I have brought all this great evil on this people, so will I bring on them all the good that I have promised them.

Jr 33:7,10-13
7 I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
10 Thus says Yahweh: Yet again there shall be heard in this place, about which you say, It is waste, without man and without animal, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without animal,
11 the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, Give thanks to Yahweh of Armies, for Yahweh is good, for his loving kindness endures forever; and of them who bring sacrifices of thanksgiving into the house of Yahweh. For I will cause the captivity of the land to return as at the first, says Yahweh.
12 Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Yet again shall there be in this place, which is waste, without man and without animal, and in all its cities, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.
13 In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, and in the cities of the South, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks again pass under the hands of him who numbers them, says Yahweh.
14 Behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will perform that good word which I have spoken concerning the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah.

Jr 43:5
But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, who were returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to sojourn in the land of Judah;

Jr 46:27
27 But don’t be afraid you, Jacob my servant, neither be dismayed, Israel: for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

Jr 50:4,5,19
4 In those days, and in that time, says Yahweh, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together; they shall go on their way weeping, and shall seek Yahweh their God.
5 They shall inquire concerning Zion with their faces turned toward it, saying, Come you, and join yourselves to Yahweh in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.
19 I will bring Israel again to his pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead.

Ezk 11:17,18
17 Therefore say, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: I will gather you from the peoples, and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.
18 They shall come there, and they shall take away all the detestable things of it and all its abominations from there.

Ezk 16:53,55
53 I will turn again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of your captives in the midst of them;
55 Your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate; and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate; and you and your daughters shall return to your former estate.

Ezk 20:34,35,40-42
34 and I will bring you out from the peoples, and will gather you out of the countries in which you are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out;
35 and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I enter into judgment with you face to face.
40 For in my holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, says the Lord Yahweh, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them, serve me in the land: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the first fruits of your offerings, with all your holy things.
41 As a pleasant aroma will I accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries in which you have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you in the sight of the nations.
42 You shall know that I am Yahweh, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country which I swore to give to your fathers.

Ezk 28:25
Thus says the Lord Yahweh: When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and shall be sanctified in them in the sight of the nations, then shall they dwell in their own land which I gave to my servant Jacob.

Ezk 34:11-16
11 For thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, I myself, even I, will search for my sheep, and will seek them out.
12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered abroad, so will I seek out my sheep; and I will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.
13 I will bring them out from the peoples, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
14 I will feed them with good pasture; and on the mountains of the height of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie down in a good fold; and on fat pasture shall they feed on the mountains of Israel.
15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will cause them to lie down, says the Lord Yahweh.
16 I will seek that which was lost, and will bring back that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but the fat and the strong I will destroy; I will feed them in justice.

Ezk 36:8-12,24,28
8 But you, mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people Israel; for they are at hand to come.
9 For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn into you, and you shall be tilled and sown;
10 and I will multiply men on you, all the house of Israel, even all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited, and the waste places shall be built;
11 and I will multiply on you man and animal; and they shall increase and be fruitful; and I will cause you to be inhabited after your former estate, and will do better to you than at your beginnings: and you shall know that I am Yahweh.
12 Yes, I will cause men to walk on you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess you, and you shall be their inheritance, and you shall no more henceforth bereave them of children.
24 For I will take you from among the nations, and gather you out of all the countries, and will bring you into your own land.
28 You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Ezk 37:1-28 Note: This very important chapter on the Regathering of the Jews is being presented in its entirety.
1 The hand of Yahweh was on me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of Yahweh, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.
2 He caused me to pass by them all around: and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and behold, they were very dry.
3 He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? I answered, Lord Yahweh, you know.
4 Again he said to me, Prophesy over these bones, and tell them, you dry bones, hear the word of Yahweh.
5 Thus says the Lord Yahweh to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.
6 I will lay sinews on you, and will bring up flesh on you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am Yahweh.
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, an earthquake; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.
8 I saw, and, behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh came up, and skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.
9 Then said he to me, Prophesy to the wind, prophesy, son of man, and tell the wind, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Come from the four winds, breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.
10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
11 Then he said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are clean cut off.
12 Therefore prophesy, and tell them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, my people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel.
13 You shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have opened your graves, and caused you to come up out of your graves, my people.
14 I will put my Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land: and you shall know that I, Yahweh, have spoken it and performed it, says Yahweh.
15 The word of Yahweh came again to me, saying,
16 You, son of man, take one stick, and write on it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write on it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
17 and join them for you one to another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand.
18 When the children of your people shall speak to you, saying, Will you not show us what you mean by these?
19 tell them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his companions; and I will put them with it, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in my hand.
20 The sticks whereon you write shall be in your hand before their eyes.
21 Say to them, Thus says the Lord Yahweh: Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, where they are gone, and will gather them on every side, and bring them into their own land:
22 and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all; and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all;
23 neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will save them out of all their dwelling places, in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people, and I will be their God.
24 My servant David shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my ordinances, and observe my statutes, and do them.
25 They shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob my servant, in which your fathers lived; and they shall dwell therein, they, and their children, and their children’s children, forever: and David my servant shall be their prince for ever.
26 Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them forevermore.
27 My tent also shall be with them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
28 The nations shall know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies Israel, when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them forevermore.

Ezk 38:8,12
8 After many days you shall be visited: in the latter years you shall come into the land that is brought back from the sword, that is gathered out of many peoples, on the mountains of Israel, which have been a continual waste; but it is brought forth out of the peoples, and they shall dwell securely, all of them.
12 to take the spoil and to take the prey; to turn your hand against the waste places that are now inhabited, and against the people who are gathered out of the nations, who have gotten livestock and goods, who dwell in the middle of the earth.

Ezk 39:25,27,28
25 Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Now will I bring back the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy on the whole house of Israel; and I will be jealous for my holy name.
27 when I have brought them back from the peoples, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations.
28 They shall know that I am Yahweh their God, in that I caused them to go into captivity among the nations, and have gathered them to their own land; and I will leave none of them any more there;

Hs 1:11
The children of Judah and the children of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint themselves one head, and will go up from the land; for great will be the day of Jezreel.

Hs 8:10
But although they sold themselves among the nations,
I will now gather them;
and they begin to waste away because of the oppression of the king of mighty ones.

Hs 11:10,11
10 They will walk after Yahweh,
who will roar like a lion;
for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.
11 They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt,
and like a dove out of the land of Assyria;
and I will settle them in their houses,” says Yahweh.

Am 9:14,15
14 I will bring my people Israel back from captivity,
and they will rebuild the ruined cities, and inhabit them;
and they will plant vineyards, and drink wine from them.
They shall also make gardens,
and eat the fruit of them.
15 I will plant them on their land,
and they will no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them,”
says Yahweh your God.

Mc 2:12
I will surely assemble, Jacob, all of you;
I will surely gather the remnant of Israel;
I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah,
as a flock in the midst of their pasture;
they will swarm with people.

Mc 4:6,7
6 “In that day,” says Yahweh,
“I will assemble that which is lame,
and I will gather that which is driven away,
and that which I have afflicted;
7 and I will make that which was lame a remnant,
and that which was cast far off a strong nation:
and Yahweh will reign over them on Mount Zion from then on, even forever.”

Zp 2:7
The coast will be for the remnant of the house of Judah. They will find pasture. In the houses of Ashkelon, they will lie down in the evening, for Yahweh, their God, will visit them, and restore them.

Zp 3:19,20
19 Behold, at that time I will deal with all those who afflict you, and I will save those who are lame, and gather those who were driven away. I will give them praise and honor, whose shame has been in all the earth.
20 At that time will I bring you in, and at that time will I gather you; for I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth, when I bring back your captivity before your eyes, says Yahweh.

Zc 8:7,8
7 Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;
8 and I will bring them, and they will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they will be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.”

Zc 10:6,8-10
6 “I will strengthen the house of Judah,
and I will save the house of Joseph,
and I will bring them back;
for I have mercy on them;
and they will be as though I had not cast them off:
for I am Yahweh their God, and I will hear them.
8 I will signal for them, and gather them;
for I have redeemed them;
and they will increase as they have increased.
9 I will sow them among the peoples;
and they will remember me in far countries;
and they will live with their children, and will return.
10 I will bring them again also out of the land of Egypt,
and gather them out of Assyria;
and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon;
and there won’t be room enough for them.

The Return to Zion

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Zionism/Return_to_Zion.html

In the late 19th century, the rise of religious and racist antiSemitism led to a resurgence of pogroms in Russia and Eastern Europe, shattering promises of equality and tolerance. This stimulated Jewish immigration to Palestine from Europe.

Simultaneously, a wave of Jews immigrated to Palestine from Yemen, Morocco, Iraq and Turkey. These Jews were unaware of Theodor Herzl's political Zionism or of European pogroms. They were motivated by the centuriesold dream of the "Return to Zion" and a fear of intolerance. Upon hearing that the gates of Palestine were open, they braved the hardships of travel and went to the "Land of Israel."

The Zionist ideal of a return to Israel has profound religious roots. Many Jewish prayers speak of Jerusalem, Zion and the Land of Israel. The injunction not to forget Jerusalem, the site of the Temple, is a major tenet of Judaism. The Hebrew language, the Torah, laws in the Talmud, the Jewish calendar and Jewish holidays and festivals such as Shavuot all originated in Israel and revolve around its seasons and conditions. Jews pray toward Jerusalem and recite the words "next year in Jerusalem" every Passover. Jewish religion, culture and history make clear that it is only in the land of Israel that the Jewish commonwealth can be built.

In 1897, Jewish leaders formally organized the Zionist movement, calling for the restoration of the Jewish national home in Palestine, where Jews could find sanctuary and selfdetermination, and work for the renascence of their civilization and culture.

But you shouldn't worry so much, most of the world WANTS to believe God lied

we have been here "forever".

According to current scientific theories,
it is thought that Aborigines have
occupied Australia
for over 60,000 years -
and possibly
more than 100,000 years.

This is in the News today, BBC News, but it's over a month, over 40 years, over 200 years,
and much, much older 'news', that like so much more truly ancient Australian History, 'they',

Aboriginal Stonehenge:
Stargazing in ancient Australia

An egg-shaped ring of standing stones in Australia
could prove to be older than Britain's Stonehenge - and it may show that
ancient Aboriginal cultures had a deep understanding of the movements of the stars.

Fifty metres wide and containing more than 100 basalt boulders,
the site of
Wurdi Youang in Victoria was noted by European
settlers two centuries ago,
and charted by archaeologists in 1977,

but only now is its purpose being rediscovered.

It is thought the site was built by the Wadda Wurrung people -
the traditional inhabitants of the area. All understanding of the
rocks' significance was lost, however, when traditional language and
practices were banned at the beginning of the 20th Century.

Now a team of archaeologists, astronomers and Aboriginal advisers
is reclaiming that knowledge.

They have discovered that waist-high boulders at the tip of
the egg-shaped point along the ring to the position on the horizon
where the sun sets at the summer and winter solstice - the longest
and shortest day of the year.

“Start Quote
<blockquote>It is interesting to know how far back people were doing astronomy,
if it is 5,000 years old it would predate Stonehenge”

</blockquote> Prof Ray Norris
Astrophysicist

The axis from top to bottom points towards the equinox -
when the length of day equals night.

At Stonehenge, the sun aligns instead with gaps in the stones
on these key dates in the solar calendar.

The probability that layout of Wurdi Youang is a coincidence
is miniscule, argues Ray Norris, a British astrophysicist at Australia's
national science agency, who is leading the investigation.

Prof Norris and his Aboriginal partners used Nasa technology
to measure the position of each rock in relation to the sun, and
to demonstrate the connection with the solstices and equinox.

"It's truly special because
a lot of people don't take account of Aboriginal science,"

says Reg Abrahams, an Aboriginal adviser working with Prof Norris.

Giant emu
As happened with Stonehenge, the discovery could change the
way people view early societies. It is only recently that it has been
demonstrated that Aboriginal societies could count beyond five or six.

"This is the first time we have been able to show that,
as well as being interested in the position of the sun,
they were making astronomical measurements,"
says Prof Norris,
who is also a faculty member at the School of Indigenous Studies
at Macquarie University in Sydney.

This photo of the emu in the sky by an aboriginal rock carving
was sent to every school in Australia

Other studies by Prof Norris, of Aboriginal songs and stories,
have also indicated a clear understanding of the movements of the sun,
moon and stars.

Indigenous customs vary among groups across Australia, but
one story that appears in many local traditions is
the tale of a great emu that sits in the sky.

The emu, which can be seen in the southern hemisphere during
April and May, is a shape made by the dark patches of the Milky Way.

Its appearance coincides with laying season of the wild emu
and for the storytellers it is a sign to start collecting eggs.

Prompted by historian Hugh Cairns, Prof Norris examined and
photographed an emu-shaped rock carving in Kuring-Gai Chase National
Park, near Sydney, which cleverly mirrors the celestial animal-like shape.

During the southern autumn, the constellation
is positioned above the rock
with the bird shape almost perfectly reflected
by the engraving.

Intellectual leap
Other stories show more complex,
intellectual understanding of the universe.

In the case of the solar eclipse, the Walpiri people in the Northern Territory
tell the story of a sun-woman who pursues a moon-man.
When she catches him the two become husband and wife
together causing a solar eclipse.

The idea that the solar eclipse is caused by the moon moving
in front of the sun is something only widely accepted by western
scientists in the 16th Century.

"This is not about balls of flames going out,
it's about one body moving in front of the other,"

says Prof Norris. "That is a giant intellectual leap."

Since solar eclipses are rare, the survival of this story,
passed down through generations,
also shows a remarkable continuity of learning.

These discoveries play a crucial role in helping
Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians
understand just how intellectually
advanced their ancient society was.

"This discovery has huge significance for understanding the
amazing ability of this culture that is maligned," says Janet Mooney,
head of Indigenous Australian Studies at Sydney University.

"It makes not only me, as an Aboriginal person,
but a lot of Aboriginal people around Australia very proud."

She hopes to be able to tell her students of
an aboriginal site more ancient than Stonehenge.

Continue reading the main story Aboriginal cultures

  • Australia's indigenous Aboriginal population make up 470,000 of the country's 21 million population
  • There are more than 400 separate Aboriginal traditions in Australia but they share many beliefs
  • All aboriginal cultures believe in the Dreaming, an expression
for man's relationship to the spiritual natural and moral elements of
    the world

  • A Dreaming is a story owned by a particular tribe that tells the story of creation
Until it is dated however, Wurdi Youang could be anywhere from 200 to 20,000 years old.

Aboriginal stone structures in the region have a vast age
range and are very difficult to date. Many of the smaller rock sites
that have been found, such as shelters and cooking areas, have been
moved over time by natural and human forces.

But given the size of the stones at Wurdi Youang and how
deeply they are entrenched in the ground it is more likely they have
been there for thousands of years, archaeologists say.

Dating requires archaeologists to test the soil under the
rocks to see when it was last exposed to sunlight and the team hope to
be able to do this in the next few months.

But Prof Norris believes he has already proven the real value of the stone circle.

"It is interesting to know how far back people were doing
astronomy, if it is 5,000 years old it would predate Stonehenge," he
says.

"But it is not quite as interesting to my mind as whether the
Aboriginal people were doing real astronomy before British contact.
That really tells us a lot about what kind of culture it is."

Good readers, this was my playground, growing up. It caused me to ask these questions,
about this glorious, truly ancient land's, truly ancient history, even as a child, yet despite
always getting the 'accepted', stock fob off's, 'something' always told
me that's what they were. Simple answers given to a child, as if being a
child made one simple. And so I kept, looking, asking, thinking about
answers given, and why they were given, when obviously,
so many of those 'accepted' answers, contradicted other 'accepted'
answers. Until now at a mature age, having enjoyed an 'interesting'
life, moving around a lot of this country, amongst many cultural and
social groups, from farming to politics, and much in between
and on the fringes, I found that when removing the contradictions,
what we are left with, is, what God described, from the beginning.

Rock engravings at Ngaut Ngaut, South Australia, which are said to
represent lunar cycles. There are many examples like this throughout
Australia which suggest that astronomy is an important part of many
Australian Aboriginal cultures.

An Australian study has uncovered signs that the country’s ancient
Aborigines may have been the world’s first stargazers, pre-dating
Stonehenge and Egypt’s pyramids by thousands of years.

Ray Norris said widespread and detailed knowledge of the stars had
been passed down through the generations by Aborigines, whose history
dates back tens of millennia, in traditional songs and stories.

“We know there’s lots of stories about the sky: songs, legends,
myths,” said Norris, an astronomer for Australia’s science agency, the
Commonwealth Scientific and Research Organisation (CSIRO).

Star-gazing for food

“We wondered how much further does it go than that. It turns out also
people used the sky for navigation, time-keeping, to mark out the
seasons, so it’s very practical.

“People were nomadic so when Pleiades (the Seven Sisters star
cluster) was up they would move to where the nuts and berries are.
Another sign and it would be time to move to the rivers to fish for
barramundi, and so on.”

Norris, who has studied Aboriginal culture and historical accounts by
white settlers, and made several trips to Arnhem Land in Australia’s
remote Outback, said his research also revealed more detailed
astronomical thought.

Figuring out an eclipse

“Clearly some thinker in the past has been sitting down in the bush,
watching an eclipse and trying to figure out how it works,” he said,
giving one example.

“Those thoughts are then encoded in the songs and ceremonies.
If you
take a lunar eclipse, the story in Arnhem Land is it’s the Sun Woman and
Moon Man making love, and when they make love the body of one covers
the other.”

Norris is now searching for evidence that would put a date on
Aboriginal astronomy, such as a rock-carving of a meteor strike or
comet.

Establishing a beginning date

He is confident the Aborigines pre-dated European stargazers,
including Britain’s astronomy-linked Stonehenge, which is estimated at
3,100 BC, around the age of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

“We’ve established there is all this astronomy, what I don’t know is
how far back this goes. If it goes back 10,000 or 20,000 years, that
makes (Aborigines) the world’s first astronomers,”
he said.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder

http://psychcentral.com/disorders/sx36.htm

Symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder
In order for a person to be diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) they must meet five or more of the following symptoms:

•Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

•Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love
•Believes that he or she is "special" and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

•Requires excessive admiration

•Has a very strong sense of entitlement, e.g., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations

•Is exploitative of others, e.g., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends

•Lacks empathy, e.g., is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others
•Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her

•Regularly shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

* Blames others for their failings

You promote hatred, fear, disunity/separation, you are a bitter gossip, hardly the hallmarks of one who understands the Meta-Message of the Holy Hebrew Scriptures........your irrelevant spam fails: The aboriginies of australia did not perceive Abstract ethical Monotheism, they did not have a universal codex of law.....and they were not the subject of the Biblical Narrative other then they were polytheistic dendrists and animists.........many ancient cultures had astronomical knowledge....Babylon, Sumeria, Egypt, Tibet, North, Central and South American Cultures, the ancient Indians, cambodians, the Dogon.......

"Falsehood is an amorphous monster, conceived in the brain of knaves and brought forth by the breath of fools. It's a mortal pestilence, a miasmic vapor that passes, like a blast from hell, over the face of the world and is gone forever. It may leave death in its wake and disaster dire; it may place on the brow of purity the brand of the courtesan and cover the hero with the stigma of the coward; it may wreck hopes and ruin homes, cause blood to flow and hearts to break; it may pollute the altar and disgrace the throne, corrupt the courts and curse the land, but the lie cannot live forever, and when it's dead and damned there's none so poor as to do it reverence." - William Cowper Brann

lilly, look at your track record for Biblical understanding.it is very poor.......you are not, as you claim, a channel for YHWHs Word....your following errors refute that contention.....that is your ego speaking, not reality...........

Your proven errors:

#1: You 'say' YHWHs/Gods Word.the Torah/Instruction is obsolete and 'done away with'......one of the biggest lies of the New Age Neo Pagans...your evidence is deformed and distorted scripture taken out of context......

JESUS AND THE IDENTITY OF GOD

http://www.ntwrightpage.com/Wright_JIG.htm

"OUR LORD’S VIEW OF THE OLD TESTAMENT"
http://www.the-highway.com/Scripture_Wenham.html

To Christ the Old Testament was true, authoritative, inspired. To Him the God of the Old Testament was the living God and the teaching of the Old Testament was the teaching of the living God. To Him, what Scripture said, God said.

Jesus as Rabbi in the Fourth Gospel

http://www.biblicalstudies.org.uk/pdf/rabbi_kostenberger.pdf

Torah of Messiah
http://www.torahofmessiah.com/

The Hebraic mindset, which was without doubt the worldview of ALL Biblical authors, is absolutely essential for proper interpretation of Scripture. If the Hebraic mindset (or context) is not used, incorrect Biblical interpretation is unavoidable.

#2: Your number two lie is especially pernicious, you preach and promote 'Replacement Theology'......you call YHWH/God a liar, that the eternal covenant He made with Abraham, the Hebrews and Israel/Zion is 'done away with', your evidence is deformed and distorted scripture taken out of context.

The Error Of Replacement Theology.
http://focusonjerusalem.com/errorofreplacementtheology.html

We Gentile Christians are told that the Jews are "beloved for the sake of the Patriarchs" (Romans 11:28). They are a chosen people who fulfilled their calling and brought the Gospel to the world. They were chosen to:

1) Be obedient to God's Word and demonstrate to the world as "a light to the nations."

2) Hear God's Word and record it - the Bible.

3) Be the human channel for the Messiah.

The Jewish people have fulfilled their role. The promise to the world through Abraham was that, "in you will all the nations on the earth be blessed" (Genesis 12:3). They were to be a light unto the nations and, while they made mistakes as we all do, they did demonstrate the power of God on earth, they did hear God's Word and record it so that we have the Bible, and they were the human channel for the Messiah, who was born, ministered, died, rose from the dead, ascended to heaven and will return to Jerusalem, Israel, in a day yet to come.

God made an everlasting covenant between the land of Israel and the Jewish people that must be fulfilled and completed or His Word, the Bible, will be proven a lie, which it is not. God will never forget or annul His ancient people. If God will not fulfil His promises to Israel, what guarantee do we have that He will fulfil His promises to the Church? (See Jeremiah 31:35-37
).

The error of Replacement Theology is like a cancer in the Church that has not only caused it to violate God's Word concerning the Jewish people and Israel, but it made us into instruments of hate, not love in God's Name.

THE END TIME SOLUTION TO REPLACEMENT THEOLOGY!

http://yourarmstoisrael.org/Articles_new/restoration/?page=3&type=12

The hideous falsehood known as replacement theology has been a cancer in theological circles for the past two millennia that just seems to refuse to go away. While replacement theology takes on different applications, and modes, it is a theology originated by the early non Jewish fathers of the so called "Christian Church". It coldly states that a new Rome centered, and Roman based ecclesiastical organization called "the church", is the "new Israel". This new Israel, would now forever replace Jewish Israel, since Yahuwah permanently rejected the Jews for killing their Messiah, His Son. Extreme proponents of replacement theology have even gone so far as to claim that Yahuwah, the mean, and cruel despot, was the Elohim of the Old Covenant Jews, as opposed to Yahshua who is the forever loving, kind, and compassionate Elohim who had REPLACED YAHUWAH AS LORD OF "THE CHURCH" OR THE SO CALLED "NEW ISRAEL". In other words, Yahshua’s people have replaced the Father’s people.

This hideous doctrine is by no means a small theological side issue to be argued in a local pub. It has been at the forefront of antisemitism, Judeo-phobia, and has fully provided fuel for tragic historical events such as the Spanish Inquisition, the Catholic Crusades, the ouster of the Jews from every European country, as well as the Nazi holocaust.

#3: Your hideous lie that YHWH/God has rejected His chosen Land Israel/Zion and transferred it to Austarlia is blasphemous........ludicrous.idiotic........my original Posts of scripture refute that falsehood completely.

#4: Your hideous lie that YHWH/God has rejected the Hebrews and broken His eternal covenant is blasphemous........ludicrous.idiotic........my original Posts of scripture refute that falsehood completely.

#5: Your hideous lie that YHWH/God has rejected/replaced Yerushalayim/Jerusalem as His Eternal Holy City is; again, blasphemous........ludicrous. idiotic........my original Posts of scripture refute that falsehood completely.

As always your evidence is deformed and distorted scripture taken out of context

Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Here is the Meta Message of the Bible which you, david icke, tinnytintin and eternalspirit never discerned because your ginormous EGO always got in the way................the bunch of you just make up bullshit so that the attention is centered on you and not YHWHs Torah/Instruction. What your EGO hides from you is Bullshit cannot withstand pressure...when subjected to test forces it crumbles.....this is why david icke, tinnytintin, eternalspirit and you won't last............failure is guarenteed, but look at the damage left in the wake of your lies and deceit...........

This is Why certain people want to kill the Jews, all of them. If they can't kill them they lie about them and misrepresent their Book and Teachings to incite hatred. Hatred grounded in Ignorance. They want to suppress, eradicate the teachings of the Bible, All Humans created in the Image of God, and a repaired/restored World.

Tzelem Elokim=Humankind as Image of Yah/God

The Human..........

1: Has Intelligence

2: Has Freewill

3: Has component of Spiritual Being-A Soul

4: HaShem/YHWH Rules the Universe and Spirit World, Humans have dominion over the Lower World.

5: Has the faculty of Judgement

6: Has an inherent Holiness and Dignity

As created in the image of God, humans are endowed with "three intrinsic dignities": infinite value, equality, and uniqueness.

The first means that human life cannot be weighed, measured, or compared in terms of, that is, subordinated to, any other value. In the Kantian Parlance humans are always a goal or end in themselves and never a means to something else.

The second term implies that no person or group is privileged over another. In fact, Idolatry results when a person or group absolutizes itself or its message.

The third idea reinforces the dignity of every human by insisting that each person is irreplaceable and has a special role to play in the redemption of the world.

The jewish religion is founded on the divine assurance and human belief that the world will be perfected." [5] Judaism engages with and seeks to overcome these realities of history through its notion of covenant. The covenant is that dynamic which God inaugurated in history, that partnership between God and the jewish people, to achieve the dignities for which all humans were created. Jews are those teachers, models, and co-workers-having both a divine and human partners - whom God designated to help all persons and even nature achieve redemption. For Greenberg, the messianic dream of perfection will not be realized by divine fiat, but by "improving this world, one step at a time."

These understandings of God, humans, and the world are expressed through the Torah and lived-out by the Jewish people through the Holy days and the Halakhah. In this view, Torah is that divine teaching which stands as "the constitution of the ongoing relationship of God and the Jewish people." Rabbi Greenberg

This expanded view/articulation of higher values help us to search for Yahwehs presence in the secular Realms of Life, some peeps call this: 'Holy Secularism'.

The Covenant is essentially a Divine, Loving, Pedagogic process. As Humans become more competent, Yahweh invites them to take up a more active role in the Task of Tikun Olam/World to Come, as Co-Creators.

The promise to Abraham was that his 'seed' will measure like the sand on a beach or stars in the sky, that's alot.

Ultimately, according to Yahwehs Plan, Humankind will Colonize the Universe as loving, caring Beings. Our Echelon will rise: Right now we are below the Malakim/Angels, when Yahwehs Plan comes to full fuition we shall rule over the Malakim/Angels.

The Earth is Humankinds beginning.

The Tikun Olam

We=ALL Living things-creatures-sustained and Nurtured by Yahweh-will fill the World with Life.

* We will reshape the Historical Reality, the Flesh & Blood world we inhabit, to sustain that Life at the highest possible level.

* Life will multiply and triumph Quantitatively over allits enemies; including Entropy, Death, and Disorder.

* Life will equally triumph Qualitatively.

* All of lifes capacities/potentials will be developed fully and realized.

* When Life blossoms to its fullest capacity that treats all Life, especially Human Life-the most developed form-and sustains it with the highest and fullest respect that it deserves, then Life will be in harmony with existence and deeply related to Yahweh, its Source and Sustainer(Natural Laws)

* This is the Jews Story, and by default; the Christians/Xns.

* Telling the Story of Creation is the Jews 'Witness'. The present evidentiary Facts contradict the Narrative fairly substantialy.

* Yet, This Story of Creation is shared by Jews and Xns.

* This Story leads Humans to see existence as best they can, from a Cosmic Perspective-Sub Specie Aeternitatis.

* From that Vantage Point there are Three Grand Movements in the unfolding Pattern of the Cosmos

1: The World is moving from Chaos to Order. From the Big Bang, with no Laws of Nature to the regularity of the Life sustaining Laws of Nature.

2: The World is moving from Non-Life to Life. From a State in which no life existed to the emergence of Life. From one cell, untold replications, life has grown Quantitatively, and developed Qualitatively. It has luxuriated and spread into a vast range of forms over and through a variety of sustaining conditions/environments.

* The declaration that Life is growing, moving from non-life to life is counter-intuitive.
Death & Entropy refute that contention.

The 'Key' is Yahweh-The Hidden, Infinite Source of Life with limitless Goodness, Love and Power that sustains Life and Nurtures every possible Form of Life into Being.

* Yahweh, the Divine Source evokes the Third Grand Movement of the Cosmos

3: Life is growing ever more to resemble its Ground: Yahweh.

Life moves from being less to becoming more and more like Yahweh. The highest form of Life, the Human Being, represents the High Point reached thus far.

In Human Form, life so resembles its Maker that it is called; Biblically; 'The Image of Yah'

* This emergence of "The Image of Yah" is the Turning Point in Cosmic History according to Jews & Xns.

Up to that point Life has been sworn to 'Be Fruitful & Multiply' (maximizing reproductive success) through a built-in control Programme-A 'Selfish Gene'- that drives the process.

* The 'Image of Yahs' Consciousness is so much like Yahwehs that Humans are able to 'grasp' this overall pattern of which we, ourselves are part, and to join voluntarily in its realization.

* Similarly, The Human 'Image of Yah' has a capacity to Love ALL their fellow creatures and every aspect of the Universe, as well as the Maker of it all and the Beauty of the Plan.

* Once Humans understand and embrace this understanding, they will lovingly identify with and willingly participate in the process of Perfection.

* Yahweh has invited us, as Humans, The 'Image of Yah', to enter into a Covenantal Partnership, committed to Love, to join fully in perfecting the Universe.

Tikun Olam

* The People of Israel joyfully acknowledge that Yahwehs first Covenant, the Noahide Covenant, never superseded, is made with ALL Humanity, not exclusively with Jews and/or Xns alone.

* It is made with ALL Sentient Beings.

* ALL Beings are called to recognize and participate in Natures Patterns.

* To accept Limits.

* To Direct their choices and actions in favour of Life.

* To join in working for Order against Chaos.

* We are ALL CHOSEN to become part of the movement from Non-Life to Life.

* We are commanded to increase Life and make it grow ever more like its Maker.

* The purpose of the Religious way of life is to create the nurturing ambience of memory and experience, of relationships and actions that sustain Human growth and turns it towards Yahweh.

* Being in the 'Image of Yahweh' brings with it more Yahweh like capacities. It bestows intrinsic Dignity, a climatic extension of that respect to which all of life is entitled.

* The People of Israel hold these Truths to be self-evident: That ALL Humans are created in 'The Image of Yahweh'; and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rightts, among which are:

* Infinite Value

* Equality

* Uniqueness.

These are Birthrights of every Son & Daughter of Yahweh, when we achieve this Level we will be allowed access to the rest of the Universe.
Our level of development currently would only bring grief to the other inhabitants of other worlds.

The Covenant is essentially a Divine, Loving, Pedagogic process. As Humans become more competent, Yahweh invites them to take up a more active role in the Task of Tikun Olam/World to Come, as Co-Creators.

The lay people of Yahweh play a more influential role in discerning Yahwehs purpose and in carrying out His Divine Mandates.

Later, ensuing Historical events reshape understandings of earlier Teachings.

Three Revolutionary Innovations in Human History took place.

All at Mt. Sinai

1: Monotheism

2:Universal Codified Law

3: An Aleph/Bet 1,800 BCE

Monotheism rather then Polytheism, Rule of Law for All rather then the Divine Rights of Kings or Queens and an Aleph/Bet, less then thirty characters that replaced Iconographs/Ideograms and Hieroglyphs, enhancin Literacy amongst the masses.

The abstraction of all these innovations were mutually reinforcing.

Yahweh proclaimed that there exists a Codex of morality that stands above Human intercourse.

The 10 Commandments applied universally to everyone. no King, Pharoah, or Potentate was above the Law.

Refutes the rubric that 'Might makes Right'.

Yahweh expected all His Chosen peeps TO READ what He inspired to be written.

The Pentateuch is the oldest Book written in an Aleph/Bet-Alpha/Bet. Prior books were written in Cuneiform, Hierglyphs etc......

Yahweh forbade anyone from visualising Him. No Images. No Idolatry.

He sanctioned only the written word.

This promulgates equality and openness.

An overarching Theme of the Pentateuch, and ensuing Books of the Bible is: Justice for all.

A distinguishing feature of the Pentateuch from other belief systems of the Time is its dominating Theme of: Righteousness,

Living a pious life and obeying written law was/is more important than winning Battles, honouring the King, or sacrificing to a local god.

Justice for all was a unique community standard in an era when the dominant principle was a raised and clenched fist.

Unlike other ANE Sagas, the Exodus begins with the people shackled slaves.

Unlike other ANE Sagas, Yahweh 'Chose' the people rather then the people choosing their god.

From Rabbi Greenbergs book, 'For the Sake of Heaven & Earth.
Jews and Xns are redicovering 'The Image of Yah' in each other, after a coupla millenia of discord and animus.

This rediscovery allows each to uncover and affirm each others role in the Divine Plan. The Kingdom of Yahweh is advanced and comes closer.

'You are my witnesses says Yahweh' Isaiah 43:10

The People of Israel are Yahwehs Servants, 'Chosen' to witness to the loving Creator and the Divine Plan for Humanity and the Cosmos.

The People of Israel = not just the Israelis, or Jews, but to all who affirm that Yahweh has made a valid Covenant with Abraham and his descendants and all who take up the task of World Redemption so that the covenant can be fulfilled.

For that is the purpose of making the covenant.

Xns and Muslims are recognized as Abrahams children when they purge themselves of Supersessionist claims and hatred of Jews.

To be True to its Witness, the People of Israel tell 3 Stories to the World, the rest of Humanity, in the presence of Yahweh and in the presence of their fellow Humans.

1: They tell the Story of Creation, the Divine Vision of an intended perfect World. Jew & Xn stake their existence that this World will come to be.

2: The Story of the Covenant, the process operating between a Divine-Human partnership whereby our imperfect World will be brought back to that state of Perfection.

3: The Story of Redemption-sometimes called: 'The End of Days'-'The Messiah Story'-which is the culmination and realization of the process.

At the end, Holistic perfection will be achieved.

Peace between Humans.
Between Humans and all the rest of Life, between all Life and Nature itself, and between all of the above and Yahweh.

Three Stories add up to one comprehensive Story: The Triumph of Life

Summarized

Summarized

Does the Biblical/Hebrew word 'Zion' refer to Israel or Australia Empty Re: Does the Biblical/Hebrew word 'Zion' refer to Israel or Australia

I like all humans, all Aboriginies, yet they never had a clue......they too are part of an evolutionary process which kicked into High Gear at Mt. Sinai............ thumbs up

The Sinai Event was the ultimate Social Engineering event.

The Torah is the first, and oldest Religious Book written in an Alphabet/Alephbet ........this alters the hegemony of the Brain to being left hemisphereical centric=Abstract, linear and sequential. the ground for Theoretical Science....

THE UNIVERSAL DESIRE FOR CLOSENESS TO G-D...AND THE SECRET OF THE SABBATH by Rabbi Chaim Richman

The following teaching from the riches of the Oral Tradition is about a level of understanding the Sabbath which is relevant to Jews and non-Jews alike. It is based on a teaching by Rabbi Chaim ben Atar (1746-1793), known as "the holy Light of Life," based on the title of his most famous work.

I. The World Intuitively Pines for G-d
Man - The Centerpiece of Creation
The created world can be divided into four basic categories: the inanimate, plant, animal, and 'speaking' life - man. Man, the highest level of creation, is the only creature endowed with the capability of speech, and this is what singles him out as a completely separate category - he has the greatest potential to develop a relationship with his Creator. He is the center of creation and its purpose and crowning achievement. For this reason, he was created last, and introduced into the Garden... to enable him to enter into a complete world, ready for him, furnished and equipped in advance to house its illustrious occupant.

Every Level of Creation Possesses a Soul
Man is followed by the members of the animal kingdom. Next in line comes the plant kingdom, and finally, inanimate creation - the lowest level of creation, as exemplified by stone. Even stone, the Torah teaches, possesses some degree of life-force, however weak. For it is impossible for something which the Holy One has created to be incapable of recognizing Him. Therefore, commensurate to that degree of life-force, awareness of the Divine could be said to exist within it...

Desire for Closeness to G-d... The Prime Mover
And so the soul, the essence, of every creature, each according to its level of understanding, has some inkling of the greatness of the Creator, and actually carries on a relationship with Him. This soul is constantly driven with endless passion to come closer to the source of all life, the Great and Perfect Light of the L-rd... how much more so should this be true among the higher, more spiritual elements of creation who understand to some extent what it means to 'cling' to the light of the living G-d.

All of Creation is United in the Desire for Closeness to G-d
Herein lies one of the greatest secrets of creation...

All life on earth... and even the actual physical elements that comprise the planet itself - the entire world as one, including every level of creation, from the lowest level of the inanimate - stones and earth, to the highest and most intelligent life-form, man himself; an endless pageant which spans every creature, plant and animal - all are constantly and inexorably united by an all-consuming, burning desire for G-d. This is the vital force which drives the world; this desire is the power which fuels the universe... it reverberates within the entire life-force, and the whole globe, like a man beating with one heart, knows on the deepest level with absolute clarity that there is nothing as sweet, desirable, and sustaining as 'Dveykut' - the ability to 'cling' close to the light of the Creator. This is the purpose of life itself, and on the deepest collective intuitive level, all are aware that nothing else is worth living for. This longing is itself the vital life-force of everything, and the entire world draws from it at once. In other words, this longing for G-d is what fuels the world to go on.

Because G-d is the Creator of all existence, He maintains an intimate link with each and every creature, regardless of its spiritual capacity. Obviously not all of creation is equal in spiritual sensitivity. Regardless of this, that link of intimate knowledge still exists, according to its degree of conciousness and development.

Three Revolutionary Innovations in Human History took place.

1: Monotheism

2: Universal Codified Law

3: An Alephbet 1,800 BCE

Monotheism rather than Polytheism, Rule of Law for All rather than the Divine Rights of Kings or Queens and an Aleph/Bet, less than thirty characters that replaced Iconographs/Ideograms and Hieroglyphs, enhancing Literacy amongst the masses.

Yahweh expected all His Chosen People TO READ what He inspired to be written.

Three Stories add up to one comprehensive Story: The Triumph of Life

Before Monotheism there had never been Religious Warfare.

The Polytheistic Cultures were live and let live about other culture Deities and often borrowed and share aspects.

The Polytheistic Deities were usually Local Deities, not Universe/Worldwide.

Polytheist had National gods, Local gods, family gods and personal gods, even their pet animals had gods.

Monotheism was a Major Advance along the road to Enlightenment, but came at a high cost.

Monotheism encouraged people to think in new ways. A Monotheistic Creator Being not tied to a concrete Image/Picture is a very Abstract Concept..

Abstraction is a crucial component of Logical Reasoning and its use can liberate people from superstition.

Devotion to an Abstract Deity has a Heavy price.

If everyone agrees there is only one, true, Living Creator Being, and different groups conceive of it in different ways, then whose perception of that Deity is the correct one?

Examine each groups values and praxis.

Different perceptions have inspired some groups to wage war and engage in forced conversions.

This never occurred in Polytheistic Cultures.

They had many wars but for the usual mundane reasons, Land, Treasure, Women, Power over others for the sake of Power alone, but they never waged Religious War.

One effect of an Alphabetic based Monotheism is the brain is using a new abstract, linear, sequential, and reductionist means of communication which moves people who learn it and use it into a Left Brain, Masculine Mode, rather then the usual Pictographic, Feminine Right Brain Mode.

The Aleph/Alphabet subliminally coaxes users to be intolerent of other Iconic Systems of Beliefs.

This is illuminated in the Ten Commandments.

As stated before, Judaism is the first religion to be based upon universal literacy, the written word.

When Moses came down from his meet and greet with YHWH on the mountain, the multitude had fashioned an Idol/Golden Calf, this dicombobulated Moses so much he dropped the two stone Tablets Yahweh had written the ten commandments.

Allegorically: In the first confrontation between Image and Written Word, both were destroyed.

As the story goes, Moses returned to the Mountain Top and Yahweh provided him with another set. Yahweh also taught Moses the Alephbet.

The 10 Commandments; The first four Commandments are for the Recognition and service/Worship of Yahweh, the remaining six focus on our fellow humans, loving and serving them.

The Commandment to Honour Both Father and Mother elevates and recognizes the importance and status of Women in the Family Group.

Loving your neighbour is not one of the Ten but appears in the Torah/Instruction, Leviticus 19:18.

The last six commandments are not unusual, and found in other Codexes of Laws, The First four Commandments are Unique.
Each one of the four encourages Alphabetic Literacy by rejecting the Right Brains way of 'knowing'.

One effect of a new, abstract, linear, sequential and reductionist means of communication moves people who learn it into a Left Brain, Masculine Mode.

Social Engineering.

The 10 Commandments: The First four concern Recognition/Respect and Service/Worship of Yahweh.

The remaining six are love and respect of fellow humans.

The Ethics they embody are more sophisticated then other contemporary ANE Cultures.

The commandment to honour BOTH Father and Mother signifies the womens important role and in the Family Unit.

Loving Neighbours is in the General Torah/Instruction: Leviticus 19:18

The last six commandments are not unusual, the first four commandments are unique. Each of the first four encourage Alphabetic literacy by rejecting the right brains way of knowing.

The First Commandment:

20:2 I am Yahweh thy Elohim, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

20:3 Thou shalt have no other elohim before me.

In one fell swoop subserviates all other elohim/gods & goddesses.

Nothing personal, it was business.

The Meta-Message of the First Commandment is that Yahweh is the Master of the Universe, He is self-existant, and all other elohim/gods & goddesses are created beings, subserviant to Him. Psalm 82

Psalm 82

82:1 Yahweh stands in the congregation of El; he judges among the elohim.

82:2 How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

82:3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

82:4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

82:5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

82:6 I have said, You are elohim; and all of you are children of the most High.

82:7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

82:8 Arise, O Yahweh, judge the earth: for thou shall inherit all nations.

All of Yahwehs Titles are masculine.

The First Commandment is a radical break with the Hebrews past environment. Moses and the Hebrews had left Egypt which was Polytheistic, alot of gods and goddesses worship.

Yahweh declares there is no worship of other gods or goddesses. Full Stop.

Perhaps the most radical sentence ever written.

The Second Commandment:

20:4 Thou shall not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I; Yahweh thy Elohim am a jealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

No Graven Images, Icons or Idols, Statues.

Learning to think without Images is indispensable to Alphabetic Literacy. The Power formerly rendered to Images/Pictures is now transferred to the written word.

Make no Graven Images is a ban/restraint on Right Brain Pattern Recognition.

The Third Commandment:

20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of Yahweh thy Elohim in vain; for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Do not use Yahwehs Name vainly, with Malintent. Again; Left Brain.

Yahwehs first instruction to adam isto Name all the critters. Through Naming, Adam attains dominion over all the Earth. Naming confers meaning and order, moving Life from Chaos to Order.

To Name is to know, to know is to control. Order out of Chaos.

The Fourth Commandment:

20:8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

20:10 But the seventh day is the Sabbath of thy Elohim: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

20:11 For in six days made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Seven Days are not a Natural Break Point in any of Earths Major Natural Rhythmic Cycles-Lunar-Solar, except the Quarter Moon.

This facilitates the learning of Aritmatic.

Leviticus 25:3-10 is about the Jubilee Years, the 50th,

No other ANE culture at that time had instructed the general population to compute complex time periods, this had formerly been the domain of the Priestly Castes.

The Time Commandment lays the foundation for the concept of Justice, a well developed sense of Linear Time is necessary to conceive of Punishment delayed and Rewards postponed.

Non-Literate Cultures are not as pre-occupied with the notion/concept of Justice as the Literate, because they do not conceive of time only as linear.

Non-Literated peeps tend to think of death as a passage to another World, not as a Day in Court.

Alphabets stretch out the sense of Time and make possible the awareness of the possibility of a retribution Time in the distant future.

A Judgements day only occurs in Literate Cultures.

Alphabet Literate Cultures became aware of writing History in a Linear, Chronological sequencing of Events.

The fourth Commandments Mechanical/Sociological ramifications is instructing people to be aware of Passing Time.

This was the advent of the seven day week, and a day off every week.

A day off for ALL Humans, Free and Bond, and ALL Beasts of Burden and the Farmland every seven years isto lay fallow to rejuvinate the enzymes in the ground.

This led to Sundials, waterclocks, Pendulums, Escape Mechanisms, Cogs, Gears, Calenders.

Time is a key function of the Left Brain.

Each of the First Four Commandments trains people in the ability to: Think Abstractly, linearly and sequentially.

Collectively, they produce a Mindset that enhances the use and facility of Alphabetic Literacy.

This Technology welded the small group into a cohesive and coherent Nation/Culture.

What occurred at/in Sinai was unique, the Authority of the Written Word superseded the authority of the Image.

Reiterating the Revolutionary Innovations that occurred at Sinai:

1: Monotheism emerged,

2:Universal Codified Laws establishing Moral Ethics

3: The Alephbet-Proto Alphabet emerged. The Hebrews reduced thosands of Images/Hieroglyphs/Petroglyphs/Ideograms/Pictograms into two dozen Characters, enabling Universal Literacy

For the first time ever, Religion demanded the follower be Literate. It is Commanded the Fathers obtain Scrolls of the Torah and teach them to their children.

Moses Commanded; Thou shall read the Law before all Israel Deut-31:10,11

The Reading of the Torah remains the most sacred obligation of every Jew.

Yahweh was concerned, unlike other gods, about the actions of everyone of His people.

Yahweh actually cares.

If someone was cheating/exploiting widows and orphans, mistreating strangers and slaves.etc.......YHWH knew and became wrathful.

The polytheistic gods did not.

Yahweh in His written Laws provided preventive Medicine, unknown to Egypt and Mesopotamis.

He explicitly spelled out in excruciating detail and minutia exactly what He expected from each and every Israelite.

Each Israelite established a personal relationship with Yahweh.

All of Yahwehs Laws were written down and everybody knew them.

It was an absolute Judaic condition that every male was literate.

Ignorance of the Law was no defence.

The Hebrews were the first to embrace Alphabetic writing, the Torah is the first Book written in an Alphbet.

The 10 Commandments were transmitted in a written Alphabetic form; Paleo-Hebrew.

Abstract letters/grammatical sequence/uniconsonantal phenomes.

The Alephbet/Alphabet introduced the possibility of Universal Literacy, so we may honestly thank and praise Yahweh that we are Literate!

All together now: Hallelu Yahweh!!!

Woot!!!! Wooot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So once upon a time way out in the Sinai Desert a radical new communication technology emerged that would forever change cultural perceptions and that the first people to utilize it would introduce fundamental principles and features underpinning Western Civilisation.

Historical Data: Proto-Sinatic Alphabet

Discovered by Sir William Flinders Petrie, very early 20th century. Dated to: 1,800 BCE

Egyptian Coptic 2,000 years later/after

Tell el Armana Cache Phoenician 1,450 BCE letters from Canaanite Leaders to Akhenaton were scribed in Cuneiform

Akkadian Cuneiform after Sumerian Conquest.

An amazing vortex of Science and History occurred in the Sinai that the worlds oldest alphabet was found where the Hebrew Nation had their seminal experience.

Yet another Unique Concept brought forth at Sinai is the Concept of Free Will.

Throughout the ANE, Babylon, Egypt.etc......humans 'believed their fate, destiny was in the hands of the gods.

The Sinaitic Covenant convinced the Israelites that every decision was theirs to make: Choose Life or Choose Death.

The choice between Right and Wrong was upon the individual. This beget the concept of Guilt, 'Guilty Conscious'; an internal Quality Control.

Moral Realtivist may consider this an ambiguous area, but is it really?

Bottom Line of what occurred at Sinai, lo those many years ago, the Power that once had been given to pictures was transferred to written words.

The Power of the Right Brain was Transferred to the Left Brain.

The Alephbet/Alphabet is the Book of Yahwehs/Bibles Eminence Grise-The unsuspected power.

Superorganisms/memes compete, as one Entelechy rises, others fall.

Of all the ANE Superorganisms/Memes, only the Jews have survivied.

Alphabetic Literacy profoundly reconfigured the relationship between the Hebrews and their Deity and between the Hebrews and their neighbours. The other ANE cultures.

The Jews have an unshakable faith.

The Religious beliefs of the Sumerians, Babylonians, Hittites, Hyskos, Hurrians, Cretans, Mittani, Assyrians, Persians, Canaanites, Ugarites, Akkadians, Egyptians, Greeks, Phoenicians, Philistines, and Roman Belief Systems have diminished greatly and most have disappeared.
The Hebrew Faith has withstood the Viscitudes of times, surviving catastrophes that should have extinguished them.

The Human Brain has three evolutionary layers.

1: The Reptilian Brain=Instinctual

2: The Paleo-Mammalian= generates Emotions

3: The Cerebral NeoCortex=Imagination, Intelligence-Right and Left Hemispheres, Corpus Callosum-capable of Art & Physics

The three brains in one operate like three interconnected biological computers, each with its own subjectivity, its own special intelligence, and its own sense of Time & Space.

The Atavistic Human Reptilian Brain-The R-Complex, contains Programmes that are rigid, compulsive, ritualistic and paranoid.

The Paleo-Mammalian Brain-The Limbic System is the seat of archaic emotions that drive feeding, fleeing, fighting, and sex-they ensure survival.
All emotions are either pleasant or unpleasant-Pleasure & Pain are the two criteria of Judgement of the Limbic System, judges all experience.

Of the two cortical Hemispheres the Right Brain is in more direct communication with the archaic reptilian instincts and primative mammalian emotions.

An instinct permits no variation in an organisms response to a specific stimulus-Instincts are 'Hard Wired' forcing the organism to respond reflexively & repititously to any particular stimulus.

In mammals emotions may be considered the truncated remnants of reptilian instincts.

A specific stimulus detected by mammalian sensory apparatus always activates the same release of complex chains of neuro-transmitters and hormones.

Emotions impels mammals and hyper-conscious primates to commit repetitive instinctual behavioural patterns.

Fear impels flight or fight responses, hate, anger, jealousy impels them to kill, envy and greed impel them to steal, lust will impel them to cast aside caution and behave in a manner that could compromise their safety and/or survival.

Be that as it may-mammals have more complex brains then reptiles and can make decisions, and are therefore capable of making choosing between different responses.

Humans, due to the development/gift of the Cerebral Cortex; have Freewill, which enables us to override our emotions and modulate our response to environmental provocations.

* Humans have many choices

* Mammals have few

* Reptiles have none at all

Characteristics of the Right Brain

BEING-IMAGES-METAPHORS-MUSIC

"All At Once" 'Holistic' 'Gestalt'

Characteristics of the Left Brain

DOING-WORDS-ABSTRACT THINKING-NUMBER SENSE

"One at a time" Abstract, Linear, Sequential

RIGHT BRAIN

1: 'BEING': appreciates 'Feeling State'--complex expressions of emotions-Laughter-Faith-Patriotism-Ectasy-Grief-Love--Etc..Aesthetic Appreciation and Harmony.

There is no precise nomenclature for 'Feeling State', they are subjective, they cannot be precisely enumerated in scientific language, they remain ambiguous. They are: NONDISCURSIVE.

'Feeling States' are Non-Logical; they confute the rules of conventional reasoning.

As Blaise Pascal so succinctly put it: "Le Couer a ses raisons que la raison ne connait pas" The heart has reasons that reason will never know...........

'Feeling States' are authentic, the experience of Love, Hate, Joy, Grief, are known with an internal authority that is beyond the Realm of Debate.

The essence of a 'Joke', Faith in a God, Patriotism, Love are non-discursive, non-logical and authentic.

Intuition/Hunches, or why an object/subject is beautiful to one person but not to another.

Each 'Feeling state' lies beyond the tight circle of logic. When compelled to explain affective States, people usually rely upon that old tautological response: 'It is because it is'.

'Feeling States' do not progress in a linear process, Getting a Joke, Intuitive Insights come out of nowhere, Love at first sight, religious conversions ala Damascus Road are -"All at Once".

2: Images-Comprehension of Images--The Right Hemisphere takes in the 'Big Picture' in a holistic manner, it appreciates the relationship of the parts to the whole. The Right Brain assimilates Images as Gestalts-seeing 'All at Once'.

3: Metaphor: A mental innovation arising out of a unique combination of 'Feeling States' and Images.

Greek Root-Meta=Over and Above-Meta-normal

Phor-Pherein=to bear across

A Metaphor allows/causes the 'Leap' across the chas of one thought to another thought. Metaphors have several different levels of meaning simutaneously (All at Once) perceived and supplies plasticity to otherwise rigid language.

Communicating any affective, emotional 'Feeling State' requires the usage of Metaphor because the so called objective world can be described, measured and catalogued with scientific precision, the internal, subjective world of emotions eludes precise Scientific Analysis.

The verbal art of metaphor is poetry.

Metaphors linguistic cousins are: Similies, analogies, allegories, proverbs and parables. Each allow simultaneous levels of interpreting one single set of words.

Dream Interpretation, Myths, Religions, Dreaming is Right Brain-it is said Dreams are to the individual; what myths and myths are to the society.

The most potent combination of Metaphor & Image is Art.

Visual Art is non-discursive, non-logical and authentic.

the Artistes device is to use visual metaphor to transport a viewer from a neutral affective state to complex 'Feeling States'.

Awe, Shock, Pleasure, ............

When the Artiste is successful the viewer is Transported Metaphorically 'Bearing' us 'across and above'. There is no Transitory State, it is an 'All at Once', Quantuum Leap. That is Great Art, it is Successful.

4: Music-Ability to appreciate and create music is Right Brain. The appreciation of music is an emotion we share with more primative animals.

I lived with two Shar Peis, and everytime I would play Jean Pierre Rampal and Aleander Lagoya the dogs would come into the room and sit and stare at the speakers, I think the Flute charmed them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwwNn2egm1E

Music demonstrates the Right Brains ability to process information as an 'All at Once' holistic gestalt by utilising multiple; incoming; converging determinants and integrating them synthetically.

Simultaneity is th eopposite of linear, sequential time, is unique to the Right Brain whose home ground is the realm of visio-spatial context, correlating parts to a whole whilst intuiting diverse relationships amongst them.

Multiple determinants, multiple emotions, multiple meanings, multiple images and multiple sounds converging into one State can be expressed through the metaphor of Space. The Right Brain excels at the appreciation of spatial dimensions and judging distances.

Driving, Skiing, and Dancing are in the dominion of the Right Brain.

The Right Brains principal attributes: BEING-IMAGES-METAPHORS & MUSIC echoe evolutionary techniques used by mammals tp comprehend Reality, All at Once, and are perceived holistically.

left brain

The Left Brains modus operendi is: 'DOING' rather then 'BEING'

An accepted rubric of Brain Laterization is the Respective Hemispheres control the opposite side muscular appendages--Left Brain=Right Hand--Right Brain=Left Hand.

The Act of 'willing' is Left Brain, the Right Hand Throws, Gathers, Fabricates.etc......

Rather then Simutaneity/All at once; what makes us 'Homo Faber' the Toolmaker is our sense of an Abstractm, Linear, Sequential series of 'Steps', 'Moves', 'Processes' that exist in Linear sequential Time which is necessary for Craftwork, Hunting etc.

Words-Vocalisations are Left Brain-Language is action Oriented, we abstract, discriminate, analyze and dissect the World into pieces-objects-catagories-that we can then grasp metaphorically and literally. A vocabulary is a Too set by which we act upon the environment.

From the Left Brain issues the generationa nd comprehension of speech with its intricacies of grammar, syntax and semantics.

Speech enables us to not only communicate with others but allows us to talk within ourselves and to ourselves.

Lower Creatures can SIGNAL
Advanced animals can INFORM
Only humans can Question, Dispute and Reason.

Abstract Thinking: This is the ability to process information/Data without the use of Images/Pictures and is the opposite of Metaphorical Thinking.

Words are Image substitutes the mind uses in building Concepts and to solve problems. When Humans evolved beyond thinking in Pictures they made a transformative evolutionary leap.

Previously meaningless phonemes/vocalisations became the words of speech and the tools of abstract thought.

Later when they combined the meaningless letters of an arbitrary alphabet to form visual words to represent the World, they created the Worlds very first Abstract art Form-The Alephbet.

Written Alphabetic Language. The Human Race had combined meaningless sounds with meaningless symbols and and created Civilization!

Abstract Thinking is usually performed within the Context of Causality which evolved from earlier Hominids perceiving, catagorizing the World into Spatial Events occuring in Time. Sunrise/Sunset--High Tide/Low Tide--Spring-Summer-Autumn-Winter.

The Human ability to recognize the intersection of Space & Time may be the precurser condition to recognise Causality and thus Formulate Logic.

The primary benefit of our Species derived from the use of Abstract Thinking was the strengthening of Foresight.

Logic is dependent on the proposition of: If-Then

A hypothetical 'IF' Scenario or idea is formulated in the mind and the placed left of 'NOW' (the past), next a hypothetical 'Then' scenario or idea is placed to the Right of 'NOW' (the future)

One may now apply Forced Logic, and Inductive and DEductive Reasoning to mentally deduce the probability of the 'IF' proposition leading to the 'THEN' proposition and initiate, modify or withold ACTION.

Logic is NOT Holistic, nor is it conceived of as a GESTALT, it depends upon an Abstract Linear Sequence.

IF-THEN Syllogisms are a reliable method of Foretelling/Predicting the Future Events thus replacing Omens, Portents; Oracles, Tarot, Astrology etc....

The Rules of Logic form the foundation of Science, Business and militatary Strategy.

Logical Thinking stands apart from other mental activities like: imagining, intuiting, reflecting, reminiscing, ruminating and daydreaming in that Logical Thinking relies upon a belief in a rigid coordinate system of Absolute Space and Invariant Time-

Number Sense: Ability to count originates in the Visio-Spatial Right Brain, and all higher animals can perceive and separate the concept of 'Oneness'; 'Twoness' and 'Manyness'. The Human ability to manipulate larger numbers is Suis Generis/Unique.

Calculation requires a level of Abstraction beyond the Realm of the Right Brain.

The Left Brain Rules Language and Numbers, the Language of Numbers is Mathematics, which arranges meaningless symbols which represent numbers into simple arithmetic, or into intricate, infinitesimal calculus.

When small children learn the alphabet they also learn mathematics.

The Left Brains innovative features: Doing, Words, Abstract Thinking and Number sense are processed in Abstract Linear Sequential Time.

To develop Craftwork Strategy, Language Logic and Mathematics the mind must range back and forth along the line of: Past-Present-Future.
The ability to fashion a Tool arises out of the Left Brain and relies upon the ability to memorize a series of steps in linear sequence.

The dominant hand is a specialized limb that is an extension of sequential Left Hemisphere.

Logic, Algebra, Physics equations all proceed in Time-Line by Line Proofs are the essence of higher math.

A series of numbers is a sequence.

Right Brain: Phylogenetic Learning, vision based and dependent on Space.

Left Brain: Learns Data/Information by rote in sequence-Time.

Right Brain: Holistic, Synthetic integration of Being, Images, Metaphors, Music-Functions: 'ALL AT ONCE'-All can be mapped using the vectors of Space.
Left Brain: Doing, Words, Abstract Thinking, and Number sense. Functions: 'ONE AT A TIME' All can be mapped by linear sequential Time.

Being, Metaphor, Image and Music are the Essence of Art.
Doing, reason, Abstract Thinking and Number sense are the essence of Physics

"From the point of view of evolutionary epistemology, the principle lesson of both special and general relativity theories is this: Human /beings are organisms capable of manipulating internal representations of the World by means of concrete operations and can transcend the bounds of their biologically given perceptione. They can liberate themselves and construct a view of reality that conflicts with intuition, yet gives a truer, more encompassing view."

Does the Biblical/Hebrew word 'Zion' refer to Israel or Australia Buddhacat

Those who set out to torment others often find themselves tormented by their own hand. This is the Devils Burden.

Each culture dresses the demon of its hatred in the garb of righteousness.

In humans, the personalities that could have been are always there, always uncomfortable in their imprisonment and periodically they scream from the Dungeons of their minds demanding their freedom. thumbs up

In Hebraic thought; the whole Function of the Torah and the Testimony is to turn the Soul away from the things of the flesh. During our life our soul either attaches itself to the things of the flesh-to the Path of Darkness; or it attaches itself to the things of the Spirit; becoming a Child of the Light. Capiche?

The Biblical commandments were given not for the sake of imposing rules and restrictions on people limiting their free will but as a Divine Communication that can be seen as generous-teaching/instructing Human Beings how Life Works and what to do and not do to make the best of it.
thumbs up

Within the Mitzvot/Commandments are all the Instruction/Torah necessary for human conduct in order to help people avoid negative consequences and repercussions and also to reap great benefits from living in alignment with the Laws of the Universe. thumbs up

Torah, Science, and Creationism:
Three Frames Of Conception and Preconception

http://www.orot.com/ec.html

Quote:
The battle between Darwin and Creationism forcing classrooms and courtrooms to choose between faith and science has nothing to do with Torah. Each framework builds from non-Jewish premises.

When science (1) discovers the mechanics of a natural process it imagines itself to have proven the nonexistence of G-d in that realm, relegating Divinity to increasingly remote corners of reality, i.e. those areas not yet illuminated by the scientific mind. Wherever a natural explanation exists G-d cannot, and so it postulates a mutually exclusive relationship between science and religion.

Jewish theology asserts the opposite and practicing Jews affirm the principle in their twice daily recitation of faith (called the Shema), "Hear Israel, HaShem (2) our Lord, HaShem is one." The two names of G-d here (HaShem and Lord) express two modes of Divine interaction with creation. HaShem (Yod-Keh-Vav-Keh) the four-letter, unpronounceable name of G-d is the transcendent aspect of Divinity, perfect and absolute, that exists beyond time and space, and beyond name and form. Conversely, Lord (Elokim), is the name used throughout the creation chapter of Genesis. It refers to Divine expression that operates within the system of natural law that G-d devised to govern the world in accordance with His (3) will.

Torah teaches, through the Shema as its central article of faith, that the same G-d (HaShem) which does things that nature can't do (i.e., miracles or creation ex nihilo) is the acting force within all that it does do (i.e. Elokim.) HaShem and Elokim are one. When science discovers the secrets of photosynthesis, the way a cell extracts energy from its food, or why it rains, they are simply articulating the mechanism of Divine manifestation as it operates through the physical world.

From a Torah perspective, as science exposes the breathtaking beauty of nature with its interpenetrating systems of such complexity that all our sophistication's of technology cannot reproduce even one living cell, let alone an entire organism, it is revealing the work of a creative consciousness infinitely greater than our own. Einstein is considered the most brilliant of men because he discovered that E = mc2.

He did not invent it, he did not create a universe based on that principle, he simply articulated a relationship that was already there. The Nobel prize should have gone to the One whose wisdom conceived the idea in the first place and Who designed the universe based on that and other yet to be discovered truths. It is like giving credit not to the inventor but to the one who made a generic imitation when the patent expired. Einstein himself believed in G-d, as did (and do) many of the greatest minds in physics. Their faith is not contingent upon unsolved riddles in nature, rather it derives from awe and humility before creation's superhuman brilliance of design. It is no mark of intelligence to reject the notion of G-d. Many of science's masters report their experience of a living Consciousness that permeates and organizes the natural world, and whom they meet, face to face, mind to mind, as they unlock creation's secrets. (4)

In contrast, the formulation of Biblical evolution called creationism, derived from the King James translation of Genesis, bears little, if any, resemblance to Jewish thought on the subject. It is a basic principle of Torah that every verse in the Bible has four levels of interpretation, an acronym for which is PaRDeS (Hebrew for "garden," and root of the English word "paradise").

1) "P" (Pshat) is its literal meaning and narrative intent; the plot or story line.
2) "R" (Remez) is the level of hint whereby peculiarities of grammar, spelling, syntax, and sentence structure indicate deeper levels of meaning and hidden interrelationships within the text.
3) "D" (Drash) is the homiletical level of interpretation where the entire Bible is understood as a metaphor for each individual soul's unfolding. Everyone has an aspect of Abraham that must be willing to sacrifice Isaac, every one must receive the Torah at Sinai, etc.
4) "S" (SOD) iS the secret, mystical or kabbalistic level of interpretation that hints to the inner worlds, angelic kingdoms, realms of soul and mathematical intricacies of Divinity.

Translation can only access the first, or literal level of meaning. All others depend upon the subtleties of Hebrew and its weave of interconnections within the text. For this reason the Jewish calendar commemorates a yearly fast (the 10th of Teves) to mourn the first translation of the Torah. Thus began the possibility of its misinterpretation and trivialization by those who imagine that the narrative Pshat) is all there is, and presume to understand Judaism without a clue to the deeper levels of interpretation essential to its teachings.

And beyond this, which applies to every passage in the Bible, the first chapters of Genesis have more commentary and mystical significance than any other section. An entire book is written on the first word alone.(5) The deepest mysteries of the universe derive from these portions, secrets that are not accessible in translation, nor comprehensible to those without extensive background. They require years of intensive study and only the most gifted understand them truly.

Thus creationism, though it cites the Bible as its source, is a non-Jewish phenomenon, since it does not incorporate traditional Torah commentaries and perspectives on the subject. This paper presents an orthodox Jewish perspective on Genesis, built from traditional sources, and explores its compatibility with Darwin's model of evolution.

A METHODOLOGY OF DYNAMIC PARADOX

A Jew knows that the truths of Torah cannot contradict the facts of nature for both derive from the same source. Tradition teaches that the ten fiats, or statements of "Let there be . . .", that called reality into existence (6), correspond to the Ten Commandments which contain within them the entire content of Jewish theology. Though the first is an artistic reverie of creative expression and the other pedagogical with all the legalisms essential to that purpose, nevertheless they are equivalent. They each express ten modes of Divine speech, one using three dimensional symbols, i.e. the objects of creation; the other using words (i.e. the commands o$ "Thou shall..."). Each, in its own alphabet, presents the full content of G-d's communication with creation. (7) There can be no contradiction between them, for both derive from the same One that conceived creation, birthed it into being, and revealed His truth, both through the symbolic structure of reality and through the prophetic revelation at Sinai.

Any discrepancy between the empirical "facts" of nature and the theological "facts" of Torah is only apparent, and resolution must be sought. The approach is twofold. First, one must examine the experimental evidence as presented by science and assess its reliability. What is fact and what is theory? What underlying assumptions might distort interpretation of the data? What is the deeper significance of the findings?

Second, one must look within the vast body of material that comprises the traditional teachings of Torah and search for supporting evidence: statements in the Bible, Talmud, Midrash, or later writings which present compatible ideas or suggest equivalent frameworks. In this way one fashions a synthesis between science and Torah, reconciling their contradictory perspectives into a larger context that holds them both. It is important to note, that nothing of science gets superadded onto the traditional system of Jewish thought, the entirety of which was revealed at Sinai, though in an exceedingly abstract and concise form. Finding correspondence between the "Torah of symbol" (science) and the "Torah of scripture" simply unpacks the dense and esoteric profundities of the Sinaic revelation, making them comprehensible to the modern mind and unlearned thinker.

This dialectical approach to resolution benefits both sides. Science becomes a hands-on model which grounds the abstractions of Torah in a more tangible form. With nature as a teaching aid, the implications of an esoteric topic can be explored more deeply. Science benefits from this methodology for when a discovery finds its niche within Torah's all encompassing framework of cosmic truth and spiritual law its significance becomes clear, and the next research step is clarified. This is the methodology here employed to approach the conflict between Darwin and Genesis. It resolves their contradictions by identifying a context which incorporates both of their truths, and reconciles them.

............................In order to compare the creation accounts of Darwin and Genesis, one must understand how Judaism reads the relevant scriptural passages. This is not generally known, outside its circle of scholars and orthodox practitioners. Consequently, the last preliminary is to present Judaism's understanding of creation's first seven days, the most simple interpretation of which indicates that these events took place on another plane of reality altogether. (13)

Tradition teaches that the entire creation chapter did actually happen and in a physical sense, but on an entirely different level than what we now understand as the physical plane. Only after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil, and the world turned inside out and upside down, did reality become as we know it today.

Good and evil existed in Eden, but each in a sphere unto itself. There was the territory of holiness and the territory of impurity, and they did not mix. Now, they are always intermixed. In our world there is no good without evil and no evil without good, but this was not always so. Adam and Eve were pure, saintly beings without a trace of impurity. We, on the other hand, experience inclinations both toward good and toward evil, both toward spiritual service and toward self indulgent gratifications. Their only impulse was to serve G-d. Evil existed in Eden, embodied as the serpent, a creature outside themselves.

To eat from the Tree-of-Knowledge-of-Good-and-Evil was to bring an intermingling of good and evil into themselves-into the very substance of their being. This fact is communicated by the tree' s name, for "knowledge" in Hebrew is also a euphemism for sexuality ("And Adarn knew Eve . . ."). Knowledge is a particular faculty of mind distinct from wisdom and understanding. It describes the internalization of information so deeply that it integrates into one's flesh. One's instinctive and reflexive behavior is conditioned by its truth (or falsehood as the case may be). Adam and Eve "imbibed" the "knowledge of good and evil" and thereby brought the intermingling of good and evil into themselves, into their intrapsychic realms where before only holiness dwelled. The entire world was affected, and from that time onward, every good contains at least a trace of evil, and vice versa.

What does this mean? Evil, in Judaism, is the illusion of separation and independence from G-d. The word "illusion" is significant. Nothing can actually be separate from G-d for G-d is one. To the extent that something presents the appearance of self containment, self sovereignty, and multiplicity, to that extent it partakes of the quality of evil. To the extent that it communicates through itself the truth of G-d's goodness, oneness, compassion, and generosity to that extent it partakes of the quality of holiness.

Evil expresses itself differently on each plane, whether physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. The manifestation of "evil" (or separation from G-d) through physical substance is the fact of its boundedness. Matter has outline. Physical objects have "skins" or "shells" which delineate them from everything else. A book is distinct from the table, which is distinct from the chair, which is distinct from me, which is distinct from you. Matter presents the appearance of separateness. It takes a penetrating, spiritual eye to see beyond the surface of things and discern the pattern of unity that connects our reality. The outer eye sees multiplicity, a jumble of self-contained and independent units. Our physical world is a product of Adam's eating from the Tree-of-Knowledge and the subsequent intermingling of good and evil that transpired. In this sense it bears no resemblance to the physical reality of Eden and the seven days of Genesis.

Both pre and post Edenic realities were physical, yet the term means something different in each context. It is as impossible for us to imagine Edenic physicality as for a blind person to conceive of color. Nevertheless, light is the element in our world with properties most similar to "matter" then: (l4)

1. It is the most subtle and tenuous of all perceptible phenomena.
2. It is emitted from a luminary without ever becoming separated from it.
3. Light spreads (apparently) instantaneously
4. Light does not mix and intermingle with other substances.
5. Light, per se, never changes.
6. It exists as a continuum of frequencies each appearing as a different color.
7. It is both wave-like and particle-like simultaneously.

It is thus more accurate to imagine the "bodies" of Eden as light-like, translucent, radiant and unbound, totally different from the opaque and limited physicality we experience today. Midrashim support this interpretation:

Rebbe Meir comments on Genesis 3:21 (l5) (based on the homonymity of the word for light, ohr, and the word for skin, 'ohr): Originally Adam's body was made of light (Ohr [with an Aleph]). But after he sinned G-d clothed his body [in a thick, opaque covering called] skin (Ohr [with an Ayin]). (16)...............

/kabalah_revelation_messiah_yahshua.pdf

Kabbalah: the Revelation of King Messiah YahShua“Now to him who is able to establish you by my full message - the proclamation of Messiah YahShua,
according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known
through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal Elohim, so that all nations might believe and
obey him— to the only wise Elohim be glory forever through Messiah YahShua! Amien.” (Romans 16:25-27)
Kabbalah has been clouded in confusion, legend, myth, and misrepresentation because authentic Kabbalah
has been hidden for thousands of years... until the coming of King Messiah YahShua.
The word Kabbalah הל ב ק comes from the root word ל בק which means, “to receive.” Kabbalah
then is received revelation by the Holy Spirit. Kabbalah seeks to encourage a relationship between an eternal and
mysterious Creator – Yahweh, the Ayn Sof, the Incomprehensible One, and the mortal, finite creation – mankind,
made in the “image of the Express Image of the invisible Elohim.” (Genesis 1:26 & Colossians 1:15)
According to Scripture, knowledge of Yahweh was transmitted to the Patriarchs, prophets, and sages
( ה יה מ כ HaחäKhämim in Hebrew, literally meaning “wise ones”) and in turn given to His people Israel.
Israel, as the priests of all mankind was to convey these teaching to the rest of mankind.
Unfortunately, though Israel was called to be a “Kingdom of Priests” (Exodus 19:6) foreign conquest and
persecution drove Israel’s spiritual leadership into hiding; the knowledge they had went underground making it
secret, fearing that it might be misused if it fell into the wrong hands. They stop the public use of the name of
Yahweh, hiding behind titles like El Shaddi, El Elyon, Adonai, and Elohim.
The Sanhedrin leaders were also concerned that the knowledge of the ה ס ו ד רת תו “Torat Ha’Sod”
meaning the “Mystical Torah” would be trampled on by the philosophers, theologians and preachers of the Gentiles.

Environment As An Instrument Of Providence

Quote:
Each moment of reality is a Divinely choreographed process, says Torah, wherein G-d directs creation in accordance with His will. Conversely, Darwin describes the evolutionary process as random. Organisms change through time as descendants become progressively more suited to their particular niche or learn to adapt to a changing environment. The mechanisms of change postulated in this theory are a combination of random mutation, natural selection and survival of the fittest. While this point of conflict seems fundamental, it is only semantic.

Science and Torah actually outline an identical sequence of events by which the universe came into being. Each concludes that our material reality is simply an elaboration and unfolding of a preexistent and primordial blueprint that actually directs each step of the creative (evolutionary) process. This is likened to an acorn that contains all the possibilities and directs the entire life history of the oak from seedling to maturity, old age and death. The acorn precedes all that will come into being throughout the tree's thousand years of existence and directs its development every step of the way.

Judaism calls this blueprint the Primordial Torah, and it is the most concise and primary articulation of Divine mind. Concerning this the Midrash teaches, "G-d looked into the Torah and created the world." (51) Science posits an equivalent concept called "Space-Time Geometry," which is "the single irreducible substance/principle which includes the entire history and spatial extent of the universe." (52) Both Torah and science conclude that everything in the universe derives from this initial seed idea; all reality bears its signature, and all creations trace their origin to that first point of existence......................................... ..................Tradition teaches that, "Everything created in the first six days requires further perfection . . . and humans too needs finishing off." (55) The mechanism by which creation fulfills this task is, no doubt, consistent with Darwin's proposed theory of micro-evolution. The tools of natural selection, random mutation, and survival of the fittest are perfectly designed for the job.

It is the unanimous opinion of traditional sources that creation's task of perfecting itself requires us to reattain that original state of unity and harmony that prevailed in Eden. Each creature contributes the unique work of its soul and its species. Genesis outlines the general frame of this vision. Plants and animals are given the task of reproducing themselves, filling the planet with a glorious profusion of forms, entering every ecosystem and seeding it with life. This is their praise to their Maker, this is the way they fulfill their charge. The Specific Theory Of Evolution articulates the mechanics of this process.

The human being is assigned the role of exercising ".. . dominion over...all the earth" (Genesis 1:26), a task that is not fulfilled by brute force and self serving exploitation, but by conscious and loving utilization of all resources for Divine service.

The history of civilization is characterized by expanding awareness and bringing consciousness to bear on the entirety of the phenomenal world. Science, psychology, the arts, and even religion are penetrating into every nook and cranny of reality and subjecting it to the light of understanding. It is not enough that something is, or that it works. We must know why and how; and there is no peace until every stone is turned.

What does awareness accomplish? What changes when something is known? Understanding alters the relationship between subject and object by dissolving the existential chasm between them. When humans acquire information about the world, they gain mastery over it, and it becomes an extension of them. Now they can use it more efficiently to serve their will which, if they are spiritually committed, actually means to serve G-d' s will. When utilized for good, and true religious purpose, the object moves from passive existence to active service, its potential unlocks and attains full realization. The highest achievement of every existence, whether human, animal, plant, or mineral is to actively serve G-d by participating in a revelation of Divine oneness and compassion. The lower kingdoms cannot do this on their own. But when they facilitate some conscious act of human service they rise above themselves. In this way humans fulfill their role of "mastery" over other living things.

Paradoxically, only when a person first accepts his "servitude" to G-d and Torah (56) can he "master" creation in a way that effects Tikun (fixing, perfecting, elevating) and not exploitation.

The human's mission of perfecting creation by exerting dominion through the expansion of consciousness also employs the mechanism of microevolution. In this context, however, environment includes not only physical pressures but also the more subtle, informational fabric of reality; both the beauty and patterns of interrelationship that a scientist discovers when studying the world, as well as the truths that a person uncovers when struggling to learn the lessons of life. Each new insight, if truly internalized (as eventually it must) alters behavior in accordance with its content and, more importantly, in accordance with the Creator who designed the world as a living embodiment of His will. In the course of human life and human culture, as the mind probes into the more subtle layers of its ecosystem, individuals and society become more successfully adapted to their physical-cultural-spiritual environment. (57)

As humanity's collective mind expands, all reality will eventually squeeze within the horizons of its visual field, including the six dimensions that collapsed into apparent nonexistence after Adam ate from the Tree of Knowledge. This process has already begun. Since science now postulates the existence of these realms, and has turned its attention to them, it is only a matter of time before the light of consciousness penetrates into even those remote corners of reality (the six lost dimensions). Only when they, too, come under the "dominion" of humanity, and are patched back into the fabric of reality that was torn asunder at "the Fall" -only then will Edenic unity be restored to its radiant and multidimensional glory. The micro-evolutionary process will then be complete.

This is the application of Darwin to the human realm. The only difference between its classic and Torah formulations, is that the environment which directs the species to evolve and adapt is not an arbitrary construct, but a "living symbol, expressing in minute and perfect detail, the dynamic vision of Divine perfection that underlies creation." (58)

The naturalist who denies G-d discloses a trace of the very G-d he denies with every law he uncovers in his investigation... The end [or pattern of nature] he seeks presupposes the very Divine mind which he denies, Who established the laws, the very discovery of which fills him with such supreme joy. (59)

TORAH AS THE UNIFIED FIELD

Torah is not a fragile relic that needs protecting against the cold, hard facts of the modern world. It is the master filing system of the cosmos and all phenomena must find their place in its all encompassing field, for in so doing, they also find their raison d'être. The extent to which anything exists independent of Torah's frame, is the extent that multiplicity reigns. Everything has a root in Torah and its scholars and practitioners must determine where each piece fits. Some are obvious, others very complicated. The labor often requires microscopic separations between the truth of science and its mythology, between the fact of an observation and the distorting forces of preconception and observational bias.

Torah invites us to push against it as hard as we will, and to test its relevance to the post-modern world. No question is beyond its scope of wisdom. The genius of Torah, Rav Eliyahu of Vilna, was consulted by scientists and tradesman for his expertise in secular subjects. His encyclopedic knowledge of the revealed and mystical traditions of Judaism, enabled him to hear a problem and identify its corresponding paradigm in Torah. With the piece now in its larger context, he could identify all the relevant elements in their proper relationship and from there suggest a solution.

It is prominently known that many of the intelligentsia, and those educated in the sciences both among the sons of Israel and those not of the covenant of Israel (including even dukes and princes) used to frequent our master the Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu. They requested from him solutions and advice concerning difficult questions in the investigation of the natural processes. He solved all the perplexing questions in a most astounding and expedient manner." (60)

This is how the dense knots of the Sinaic revelation get unraveled. The latent wisdom in Torah finds concrete expression in the real world, and Torah's teachings extend to yet another aspect of reality. This is no small matter. Just as the species' appear as discrete and disconnected cross sections of Eden which cannot reveal its wondrous multidimensional unity in this four dimensional world, so the sciences and philosophies, arts and culture bear exactly this relationship to Torah. Eventually all reality must find its place in the master vision that preceded all, the comprehensive formulation of spiritual law and cosmic plan, the unified field of metaphysics...the Torah.

The Anthropic Coincidences
http://www.colorado.edu/philosophy/v.../ant_encyc.pdf

In 1919, mathematician and physicist Hermann Weyl puzzled why the ratio of the
electromagnetic force to the gravitational force between two electrons is such a huge number, N1
= 1039.1 Weyl wondered why this should be the case, expressing his intuition (and nothing more
than that) that "pure" numbers, like p, that is, numbers that do not depend any system of units,
when occurring in the description of physical properties, should most naturally occur within a
few orders of magnitude of unity. Why 1039? Why not 1057 or 10-123? Some principle, Weyl
thought, must select out 1039.
In 1923, astronomer Arthur Eddington agreed: "It is difficult to account for the occurrence
of a pure number (of order greatly different from unity) in the scheme of things; but this
difficulty would be removed if we could connect it to the number of particles in the world—a
number presumably decided by accident.2 He estimated that number, now called the "Eddington
number," to be N =1079. Well, N is not too far from the square of N1.
In 1937, physicist Paul Dirac noticed that N1 is the same order of magnitude as another pure
number N2 that gives the ratio of a typical stellar lifetime to the time for light to traverse the
radius of a proton.3 That is, he found two seemingly unconnected large numbers to be of the
same order of magnitude. If one number being large is unlikely, how much more unlikely is
another to come along with about the same value?
In 1961, astrophysicist Robert Dicke pointed out that N2 is necessarily large in order that the
lifetime of typical stars is sufficient to generate heavy chemical elements such as carbon.
Furthermore, he showed that N1 must be of the same order of N2 in any universe with heavy
elements.4 Thus, this became the first of what are called the anthropic coincidences, connections
between physical constants that seem to be necessary for the existence of life in the universe.
While many examples of claimed anthropic coincidences can be found in the literature, here
are the most significant:

1. The electromagnetic force is 39 orders of magnitude stronger than the gravitational
force. If they were more comparable in strength, stars would have collapsed long
before life had a chance to evolve.
2. The vacuum energy density of the universe is at least 120 orders of magnitude lower
than some theoretical estimates. If at any time it were as large as these calculations
suggest, the universe would have quickly blown apart.
3. The electron's mass is less than the difference in the masses of the neutron and
proton. Thus, a free neutron can decay into a proton, electron, and anti-neutrino. If
this were not the case, the neutron would be stable and most of the protons and
electrons in the early universe would have combined to form neutrons, leaving little
hydrogen to act as the main component and fuel of stars.
4. The neutron is heavier than the proton, but not so much heavier that neutrons cannot
be bound in nuclei, where conservation of energy prevents the neutrons from
decaying. Without neutrons we would not have the heavier elements needed for
building complex systems such as life.
5. The carbon nucleus has an excited energy level at around 7.65 million electron-volts
(MeV). Without this state, insufficient carbon would be manufactured in stars to
form the basis for life. Using anthropic arguments, astronomer Fred Hoyle predicted
this energy level before it was confirmed experimentally.5

The Three Anthropic Principles

In 1974, astronomer Brandon Carter introduced the notion of the anthropic principle, which
hypothesized that the anthropic coincidences are not the result of chance but somehow built into
the structure of the universe.6 He proposed two versions. His weak anthropic principle (WAP) states that We must be prepared to take into account the fact that our location in the universe is necessarily privileged to the extent of being compatible with our, existence as observers.

Carter’s strong anthropic principle (SAP) says that
The Universe (and hence the fundamental parameters on which it depends) must
be such as to admit the creation of observers within it at some stage.
Other authors have presented their own versions of anthropic principles, over thirty being
available in the literature. I will just mention three more versions—those proposed by
mathematician John Barrow and physicist Frank Tipler in their tome on the subject. 7 The first
two are rephrases of Carter’s wording. The Barrow and Tipler WAP reads:
The observed values of all physical and cosmological quantities are not equally
probable but take on values restricted by the requirement that there exist sites
where carbon-based life can evolve and by the requirement that the Universe be
old enough for it to have already done so.
Note that Barrow and Tipler require the existence of “carbon-based life” while Carter simply
refers to the existence of “observers.” This is better phasing since many of the coincidences have
to do with carbon, directly or indirectly.
Barrow and Tipler’s SAP reads:
The Universe must have those properties which allow life to develop within it at
some stage in its history.
Note that all three authors say that the universe “must” have the properties that allow for the
creation of life, or, at least, observers. Thus, the SAP seems to imply some intent or purpose
within the universe.
Barrow and Tipler round out their various anthropic principles with the final anthropic
principle (FAP):
Intelligent, information processing must come into evidence in the Universe, and,
once it comes into existence, it will never die out.
Note that the term "anthropic principle" is a misnomer, as is "anthropic coincidence." While
singling out our kind of carbon-based life, none of the coincidences require human life or
demand that carbon-based life develop intelligence...........................

Forward.comIn the Beginning, 13.73 Billion Years Ago
Howard Smith | Fri. Oct 13, 2006
Since the start of the Hebrew month of Elul in late August, Jews have been examining the year past in search of
lessons to apply to the year ahead. Now, as the holiday season winds to a close, the weekly cycle of Torah
readings offers another opportunity to examine the past as we return to the study of the very beginning: Genesis
and the story of creation. This year, modern science has something new to add.
The medieval commentator Rashi famously asks why the Torah, nominally a book of laws, begins with a
seemingly incidental cosmology narrative. He answers, citing a midrash, that the account is included to
demonstrate to all the nations that God created the Earth, and that the land of Israel can therefore be given to
whomever God chooses. Land belongs not to people, but to the Lord.
Some 500 years after Rashi, the kabbalists of Safed developed their own perspective on the lessons of the
Torah’s cosmology. They built on a different midrash on Genesis, one formulated by the first-century rabbi Yonah
and cited in the “Beresheit Rabbah.”
Yonah asks, in the name of his teacher, why the Torah begins with the letter Bet — .a. His answer is that this
letter is shaped like a bracket — ] — closed behind, above and beneath, so that “we have no permission to
discuss what is above or below, in front or in back, only onwards from the moment of creation.”
The first mark in scripture then, after that signifying bracket, is the tiny dot inside the Bet that hardens its sound
from “v” to “b.” This dot signifies the primal point of creation, the embryonic universe, what the kabbalists called
the “Resheit.” “Beyond this point,” says the Zohar, “nothing is known, and so it is called the Resheit, the first word
of all.” The Torah’s literal opening statement is thus, “With the Resheit God created the heavens and the Earth.”
The kabbalists weave an intricate account of the universe created from this infinitesimal speck, describing how it
expanded and evolved with light and substance into our world. Like Rashi, the kabbalists derive a lesson from
their cosmology: Humanity has a role in this drama. They explain that the work of creation has not been
completed.
Tikkun olam is humanity’s task — to heal the breaches and injustices of our society, imperfections that were
embedded in the very fabric of the newly formed cosmos. The import of these lessons remains as appropriate
today as ever, as we educe new interpretations from these old teachings.
There are also new teachings in the cosmological story, and some other lessons to derive as well. This has been
another remarkable year for astronomers investigating how the universe was actually created — yes, today we
know how the creation really did proceed. Readers may perhaps recall the essence of those ideas; they are
expressed in the big bang model.
About 13 billion years ago, the universe as we know it exploded from an infinitesimally small point, much smaller
than even an atomic nucleus, in a creative event dubbed “the big bang.” The universe has been expanding from
this point and evolving ever since, with its current dimension being approximately 46 billion light-years. The
foundations for the big bang description were laid by decades of mathematical thinking and meticulous studies
that culminated with Edwin Hubble’s unexpected 1929 observation: Other galaxies are moving away from us with
velocities that indicate a systematic recession, but yet, in accord with Albert Einstein’s then recent theory of

relativity, the Earth has no privileged position. Hubble’s results shocked people who only a few years earlier
thought that our galaxy was the entire universe and that — as Einstein, too, had originally thought — the universe
was static and eternal.
Hubble’s data made use of 46 nearby galaxies. This past year, several different teams of astronomers reported
progress on their programs to measure the recession velocities of hundreds of thousands of galaxies. Their
results — with evidence from galaxies hundreds of times farther away than Hubble’s sample — support Hubble’s
conclusion that the universe is systematically expanding.
There was other news as well. The newborn universe was tiny and fantastically hot, and its light was scattered by
the plasma of electrons like headlights in a fog. Three hundred and eighty thousand years after the big bang,
once the universe had cooled down enough for neutral atoms to assemble, light was finally able to travel through
space unimpeded. That light is seen today as the so-called “cosmic microwave background radiation,” and it
permeates all of space. It is faint — but it is everywhere.
The cosmic microwave background radiation was discovered in the 1960s, and like the recession of galaxies, it
has become one of the essential diagnostic features used to investigate the details of exactly what happened in
the beginning. In 1989, NASA launched a small satellite, the Cosmic Background Explorer, to measure this
radiation more precisely. Just last month, the Nobel Prize in physics was awarded to two astronomers who, with
their teams, designed the explorer. NASA now has a newer cosmology satellite in orbit, the Wilkinson Microwave
Anisotropy Probe. Last month this satellite team announced the results of the first three years of nonstop
surveying of the cosmic microwave background radiation.
The universe, the probe satellite team reports, is 13.73 billion years old, with a formal statistical uncertainty in that
number of only about 1%, or about 150 million years — less time than it took for the dinosaurs to come and go.
(The team also measured another half-dozen fundamental properties of the universe with similar precision.)
Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe and the various galaxy studies have bolstered our confidence in our
understanding of the early universe, and solidified ideas that would have seemed completely ludicrous a century
ago — ludicrous to scientists, that is, though not to kabbalists.
The same remarkable astronomical research, however, has simultaneously uncovered stunning new mysteries.
The universe is not simply expanding, it appears to be accelerating outward into endless oblivion. Astronomers
can account for only a paltry 10% of cosmic matter as being in known forms like planets, stars, galaxies or
gaseous nebulae. The other 90% of substance is “dark matter,” almost certainly some kind of unknown material.
Einstein’s hoped-for theory to unite gravity and the other three forces of nature remains unrealized. The rigor with
which the cosmic age has been determined only lends credence to the profundity of these three mysteries and
other ones still remaining.
Like the cosmology of Rashi and the Safed kabbalists, modern cosmology also lends itself to a message and a
lesson. The message is that our basic concepts about the universe are well-founded: The universe is not eternal
and static; it was born, has evolved and is expanding. Yes, there are deep puzzles remaining, but we have
increasing confidence in the scientific methods needed to resolve them.
The lesson comes when applying these realizations to the current political debates that have regrettably
presented science and religion as antagonists — evolution, intelligent design, stem-cell research and human
behaviors, to name a few. In the case of astronomy, and more generally as well, both science and religion are
speaking to the same mysteries. In the arena of cosmology they offer perspectives that, though different, are
consonant, not contradictory — as I hope the example of the Kabbalah illustrates.
Science and religion should therefore be partners, not adversaries, in the effort to fashion sensible and fair

political solutions. In this coming year of 5767 we owe it to ourselves to be more tolerant of divergent opinions, to
abandon defensive and bitter rhetoric in favor of open inquiry and respectful listening, and to become better
informed about the marvelous nature of the world which, as per Genesis 1, was created with language, and
judged to be “very good.”

Kabbalah, Science, and Religious Pluralism

A response to the Harvard Divinity School 2008 Paul Tillich Lecture
May 5, 2008
by Dr. Howard Smith

[The keynote speaker for the 2008 Paul Tillich Lecture was Prof. Bruno Guiderdoni, of the National Center for Scientific Research in Lyon, France, who spoke on the topic: “Science, Faith, and the Dialog of Cultures: Islamic Perspectives.” The following is the response presented by Dr. Howard Smith.]

I begin by quoting Scripture — the words of Solomon, in his lyrical love poem, The Song of Songs. He wrote “I was sleeping, but my heart was aroused: the voice of my Beloved is knocking… ‘Open up to me!’” This holy poem is, of course, the classic Jewish metaphor for God’s love, and today — I would say perhaps even especially today — I see that message — Open up to me! — as a call to people of all perspectives.

For a religious person, that knocking comes from the voice of modern science, which amplifies traditional ideas based on honest — but erroneous — interpretations of Torah/Bible with amazing new cosmic insights, and thereby opens up scripture to new profundities. For a skeptic of religion or to an atheist, the calling voice is that of enlightened religious traditions that offer context, depth, and meaning to the narrow world of reductionism. Let me explain.

Science and religion have long debated with each other, in all of our religious traditions. It’s old news. Is there anything new for us to add to that discourse?

Amazingly, yes — there is something new to say today. It derives from science’s ability to answer successfully most of the profound mysteries of nature, puzzles that baffled people even fifty years ago, and that had been attributed by many to God’s unknowable ways. The Creation, for example, or the mechanics of life. Today, for the first time, we understand a good deal about these divine ways.

I speak and write about the form of Jewish mysticism known as the Kabbalah, an esoteric tradition that dates back over two thousand years, but which blossomed and became public in the 14-16th centuries. For me, the Kabbalah offers a particularly useful framework of religious expression from which moderns can consider the issues of science and religion.

From a strictly scientific perspective, it is famous these days for having detailed 600 years ago a dramatically unconventional cosmology that echoes today’s big-bang picture. The Kabbalists understood Scripture as symbolic notation to be unraveled — a feature of sacred language that Bruno has noted. They take the first word of the Bible, “In the beginning,” — B’resheit in the original Hebrew — and unweave it to develop their “big bang” scenario.

“Resheit” is customarily translated as “Beginning” but the Kabbalists called it Hokhmha = “The LOGOS” — and Resheit is their name for the infinitesimal point of the big-bang event. Their understanding of the first word of Genesis is, thus: “With the Resheit God created the heavens and the earth.” Today, thanks to General Relativity, we understand that the location of the Resheit, of that creative event, is right here with us, as everywhere. We can even sense its presence in the cosmic microwave background radiation that permeates this room — an omnipresent reminder.

From a theological perspective, the Kabbalah emphasizes a world in progress rather than of eternal perfection, and thus shares many of the features of process theology, appealing to modern sensibilities in this as well. But, as I emphasize to my students, even the early Kabbalists could not grasp the profound insights that we moderns have thanks to Relativity and 20th century technology.

Two provocative themes flow from the remarkable successes of today’s science. One is the modernist attitude of science as a social construct. We are fooling ourselves about our successes, this approach argues. Nothing is known for certain, much less “one single, ultimate truth” about the cosmos. I wonder if this view is not hinted at by Bruno’s observation that “our ideas and behaviors are conditioned by our metaphysical views on reality.” Conditioned ? Yes, exactly so. But, I think, not more than that. I believe in a God whose world — and whose word — are authentic sources of genuine knowledge, and which science will uncover with effort.

Bruno wisely observed that just as science, by disagreeing with tradition, reminds religion of “the multiplicity of meanings” — namely, that truth is difficult to discern — so too we must make room, as he put it, for “creative tension between religions” — these are the blessed consequences of God’s love of diversity. As the rabbis put it when confronted with the divergent views of spiritual giants: alu va’alu divrei elohim hayyim: BOTH these and these are the words of a living God, a God who loves the process — the manifold encounterings of love — as we try to comprehend that multiplicity.

The second provocative new theme comes not from philosophers but from scientists themselves. Not so long ago I think most astronomers would have agreed that, overall, we pretty much understand the cosmos and its origin in some kind of inflationary big bang. In the past 10 years this has changed. Today I’d guess that most astronomers would say that, overall, we pretty much do NOT understand the cosmos.

What happened!? Well, we discovered dark matter and dark energy — 95% ! of the essence of our universe — and our discomfort has grown because we still have no idea what they really are. I think we scientists are being admirably honest in admitting that we do not know as much as we thought. This lesson in humility is one that scientists offer to theologians — the admission that we do not know it all, regardless of our traditions or our egos. Not only has the living God revealed to us something deeper of these mysteries, secrets that our forebearers did not understand — so too we acknowledge that future discoveries await our children.

Another aspect of this revolution in attitude is that while our theories seem — or let’s say, promise — to be beautifully unified, a Grand Unified Theory or a String Theory of Everything, as a consequence of inflation and of quantum mechanics we scientists are forced to postulate a multiple-worlds picture that is chaotically multitudinous, as Bruno alluded to. And, as a consequence of anthropic arguments – that is, the perfect suitability of the universe for life — many scientists welcome this surfeit of worlds as explaining such miraculous perfection as an accident. Unfortunately this solution raises the problem of a wasteful infinity of worlds and voids.

How bad a problem? Stephen Hawking recently suggested a quantum mechanical way to deny “reality” to all those many other universes, his “top-down approach” — meanwhile Max Tegmark argued that we should reinstate a Platonic paradigm granting existence to all mathematically logical realities, no matter how “unrealistic” — the 10-to-the-power-500 universes in the string-theory landscape are not enough.

It is as though the “chaos and void”of the Bible never went away… God’s creative speech simply picked off one multiverse strand for us to live in.

So yes, today science is wonderfully successful…. and at the same time, wonderfully provocative.

Jewish tradition makes a daring observation. As the universe unfolded, we are told that God saw that it was good: 6 times in 6 days — the 6 stages of the evolution of the cosmos. And at the end, Genesis reports that God saw everything together and “behold, it was very good.” The whole was more beautiful, apparently, than its many parts.

Science is not able to say of something, “it is good” — religion and its ethical power provides us with this perspective. But there is more. The early rabbis notice the superfluous word “BEHOLD”, and suggest it implies that God was surprised at the result. Our world was not a predetermined outcome. The universe incorporates some level of deep unpredictability, perhaps connected to the possibility of free-will. In fact, speculate the rabbis, God created many universes; he was surprised at this one because it was unlike the others: behold- it did turn out to be “very good” — and so he blessed it. Some of that goodness surely comes from the freedom we humans have to transmute “good” into “better” — a process the Kabbalists called “tikkun olam” — improving the world.

“Open up to me!” This is the call of modern science to spiritual seekers — open yourself up to the wonders of the universe as revealed by science, and to the insights they convey — that sense of Awe that Bruno spoke about. (Awe, incidentally, is seen by the Kabbalists as identical with the LOGOS, and thus conjoined with the Resheit and the big bang event).

“Open up to me!” This is the call of religion to scientists — scientists are also seekers, certainly. Open up to the possibilities of wonder, love, and to the ethical responsibilities of living in a quantum multi-verse that — behold!, is “very good.”

Guest Columnist: Science, religion and blessing the sun
May. 21, 2009
howard smith , THE JERUSALEM POST
There is a revolution under way over how we think about science and religion, one that should matter to every
person - religious or secular - who cares about intellectual honesty or spiritual wholeness. My recent op-ed,
"Blessing the sun: Astronomical absurdity or spiritual encounter?" (April 6) hinted at this development. That
article generated considerable e-mail, some to The Jerusalem Post and some directly to me, which the Post
asked me to address.
As I write these remarks, we are preparing for Shavuot, the traditional season of revelation - surely the ultimate
challenge to intellectual complacency, which is what this subject is all about. I will return to the theme of
revelation at the end.
Nearly all of the letters were complimentary (thank you for them), but they came with questions and issues that
tended to fall into two opposite flavors. Writers who identified themselves as religious wondered why I could be
so sure that science was correct about things like the age of the universe, or how I could myself be a religious
Jew if Torah were being challenged. Writers who were secular, or atheistic, wondered what religion had to
offer, and why I bothered keeping rituals like the Birkat Hahama - or even Pessah.
These are familiar, I might say even old-fashioned, objections. My book, Let There Be Light: Modern
Cosmology and Kabbalah, a New Conversation Between Science and Religion, reviews and explicates all the
issues in detail. In the next few paragraphs I will respond to both sides, and answer a few technical questions
that were raised several times.

I need to begin, however, with some information that is important to both perspectives. I said that there is a
revolution under way in how we think about science and religion. It is because of this: the "god of the gaps,"
that quasi-derogatory term used to describe a divinity invoked whenever we do not understand something -
that god is now dead. In just the past 20 years or so - not earlier - science has been able to answer with some
confidence all of the fundamental questions that used to be the sole domain of religion, especially the two big
ones: How was the universe created? What is the nature of life?

In physics and astrophysics, the "big bang" model has been soundly confirmed and other options rejected by
recent satellites and telescopes designed explicitly to look for loopholes. Just last week the European Space
Agency launched the Planck satellite, the latest in a series to study the big bang; it is expected to achieve
astonishing accuracies of 1 percent in its measurements of the details of the creation. In biology, the Human
Genome Project has successfully placed life and its complexity under a microscope.
THESE EXAMPLES by no means imply that we know everything. On the contrary, the mysteries increase in
number as our questions become more sophisticated. But I do mean to say that the scientific method has every
reason to expect success in answering the new questions too, and no reason to be worried about the need to
invoke some opaque "god of the gaps" when it gets stuck. Even 50 years ago this was not the case. A revolution
is upon us.

All this means that for the very first time in human history we can plausibly, if timorously, respond, "Yes," on
behalf of Job, whom God challenges: "Speak up if you can understand [the creation]!" - Job 38:4. For those of
us who are religious, this revolution means that our faith is not the result of being ignorant, but an
acknowledgment of a sanctified relationship. For those of us who recognize the truth of science, it means that
although our knowledge of the world is intellectual, our relationship with the world can be clarified by a Torah
thankfully freed from the distracting baggage of supposedly offering physical "answers." God is not a "god of
the gaps," but the One who took us out of Egypt.

The celebration of Birkat Hahama was an opportunity to confront this modern renewal of spirit: to give thanks
for our blessings, and to express our consciousness of the natural world. It was also a moment to consider how
the rabbis, at least in this case, dealt with matters of science.

Birkat Hahama celebrates the sun when it appears at dawn at the spring equinox - that is, when the length of
the day is equal to that of the night (i.e., 12 hours each; there is also an equinox that occurs in the fall.) This year
the spring equinox occurred on March 20. If you were to look down at the solar system from above and ask how
long it takes for the earth to orbit around the sun and return to exactly the same position with respect to the
stars, the answer is one "sidereal year" of 365.256363 days. But because the varying length of days - like the
seasons - is caused by the tilt of the earth's axis (the axis does not point straight up from the plane of the orbit),
and because that axis wobbles ("precesses") slightly, the time to go from one spring equinox to another is called
a "tropical year" and is shorter than the sidereal year: It is only 365.24219 days. The tropical year is what the
rabbis calculated, since they were interested in the spring equinox.

The 19-year calendar cycle that we as Jews use is based on the calculations of Rabbi Adda bar Abba, who used a
tropical year of 365.2468 days. It is not a bad estimate, but since it differs slightly from the actual tropical year
length, Passover is slowly drifting away from spring. It was precisely for this kind of reason that in 1582 Pope
Gregory instituted a change in the secular calendar, which, together with one later adjustment, makes the
current secular calendar nearly perfect. But the rabbis of the time did not want to emulate this correction, and
retained the old calculations.

The calendar for calculating Birkat Hahama, however, used an even more approximate number for a year, that
of Rav Shmuel - exactly 365.250 days - perhaps because it was simpler for people to use. He certainly knew this
value was not perfectly accurate; Hipparcos in 200 BCE knew about the precession, and estimated its effects.
So: even if the sun had been created on a Wednesday spring equinox, the occasion would not always coincide
with the officially calculated date from Rav Shmuel. But nonetheless the calendar was ruled good enough.
An exact correspondence was unnecessary for the rabbis, perhaps because the event is only symbolic. Just so.
TODAY WE KNOW the universe is 13.7 billion years old, and the sun was not created on a Wednesday in the
spring 5769 years ago. Many completely independent lines of evidence confirm it; good explanations can be
found in many sources (including my book). The more commonly posed question from fundamentalists is: How
do we know that God did not actually create the world a few thousand years ago to appear to be billions of years
old?

The most effective answer to this question depends on knowing the questioner, but, in brief, I often point to the
proof offered by Maimonides: We are commanded by Torah to love and know God, and thereby we are assured
that it is possible. He does not play tricks with us, or with that most precious and distinguishing human faculty,
our intellect.

Shavuot celebrates the occasion of the revelation at Sinai some 3,500 years ago (sorry for the typo in the earlier
article). Doesn't the idea of revelation and divine intervention require a person to take sides, either for science
or religion? No. It seems to me that, at least in a traditional Jewish sense, in fact the opposite is the case. The
midrash puts it effectively when describing the episode at Sinai. It reports the opinions of Rabbi Tanhuma,
Rabbi Jose ben Rabbi Hanina, Rav Kahana and others that every person at Sinai heard something different. "To
each person it was according to his strength," they said. "The divine word spoke to each and every person
according to his particular capacity."The power of the scientific method is that every person will see and hear exactly the same thing. Mistakes of

interpretation will therefore be found and fixed; cumulative wisdom grows, and as it does, we gain in
understanding about God's "Book of Nature." But the power of revelation is that no two people will see and
hear exactly the same thing. Our relationship with the holy is a personal and sanctified one. Taken together,
these two - our mind and our spirit, our shared and our personal experiences of the divine - enable us to live in
the natural world both aware of and grateful for its blessings, the sun included.

[color=blue]The Genesis enigma: How DID the Bible describe the evolution of life 3,000 years before Darwin?
By Christopher Hart

The revalation came to Professor Andrew Parker during a visit to Rome. He was in the Sistine Chapel, gazing up at Michelangelo's awesome ceiling paintings, when a realisation struck him with dizzying force.
'A Biblical enigma exists that is on the one hand so cryptic it has remained camouflaged for millennia, and on the other so obvious one cannot miss it.'
The enigma is that the order of Creation as described in the Book of Genesis, and so powerfully depicted in the Sistine Chapel by the greatest artist of the Renaissance, has been precisely, eerily confirmed by modern evolutionary science. .................Yet how on earth could this be possible? And why had nobody noticed it before?
Such was the starting point of Parker's jaw-dropping new book, The Genesis Enigma: an astounding work which seeks to prove that the ancient Hebrew writers of the Book of Genesis knew all about evolution - 3,000 years before Darwin.
It takes a journey back through aeons of geological time, and also into the minds and imaginations of the ancient Israelites.
Andrew Parker is a leading scientist in his field: a research fellow at Oxford University, research leader at the Natural History Museum, and as if that weren't enough, a professor at Shanghai's Jiao Tong university.
As a scientist he never paid much heed to the Book of Genesis, assuming, like most of his colleagues, that such primitive mythology - which is believed to have been compiled from several sources between 950 and 500 BC - has long since been 'disproved' by hard scientific fact.
But after his Sistine Chapel moment, he went back to look at Genesis in more detail. And what he read astonished him. It was even, he says, 'slightly scary'.
Somehow - God alone knew how - the writer or writers of that ancient text had described how the evolution of life on earth took place in precise detail and perfect order.
Our ancestors possessed a truly timeless wisdom It is always disturbing and haunting to encounter an ancient wisdom that seems to anticipate or even exceed our own.
More fanciful writers immediately start to theorise wildly: that those who built the pyramids, or Stonehenge, must have been guided by super-intelligent aliens, that sort of thing.
Andrew Parker, a scientist and proud of it, has no time for such twaddle. But he does gradually come to understand, in the course of his investigations, that our ancestors of thousands of years ago, though they may not have had iPods and plasma-screen televisions, nevertheless possessed a wisdom that was, quite literally, timeless: as true now as it was then.
In the Book of Genesis, God first and most famously creates heaven and earth, but 'without form', and commands: 'Let there be light.' A perfect description of the Big Bang, that founding moment of our universe some 13 billion years ago, an unimaginable explosion of pure energy and matter 'without form' out of nothing - the primordial Biblical 'void'.
He then creates the dry land out of the waters, but it is the water that comes first. As Parker points out, scientists today understand very similarly that water is indeed crucial for life.

When 'astrobiologists' look into space for signs of life on other planets, the first thing they look for is the possible presence of water.
On the third day, we are told: 'God said, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so."'
Now factually speaking, grass didn't evolve until much later. In the Triassic and Jurassic epochs, the dinosaurs knew only plants such as giant conifers and tree ferns. But since grass did not in fact evolve until much later, a sternly literal-minded scientist would declare the Bible wrong, and consign it to the nearest wheelie bin.
But wait a minute, says Parker. If you take 'grass, herb and tree' to mean photosynthesising life in general, then this is, once again, spot on.

The very life forms on earth were single-celled bacteria, but the first truly viable bacteria were the 'cyanobacteria' - those that had learned to photosynthesise.
As a result, they began to expire oxygen, creating an atmosphere that could go on to support more and more life. They were the key to life on earth.
Naturally, says Parker, 'the ancient Israelites would have been oblivious to any single-celled life form, let alone cyanobacteria', but 'grass' as a loose description of life forms that photosynthesis? ................On the fourth day, Genesis famously becomes confusing. On the first day, remember, God has already created light, and made Day and Night. But it isn't until day four that he makes the lights in heaven, the greater light to rule the day and the lesser the night.
Hang on - so he made 'Day' three days before he made the Sun? Houston, I think we have a problem.

Yet the writers of Genesis were just as well aware as us, surely, that the sunrise causes the day. You don't need a degree in astronomy to work that one out. What on earth did they mean?

Here, The Genesis Enigma comes up with a stunningly ingenious answer. For Parker argues that day four refers to the evolution of vision.
Until the first creatures on earth evolved eyes, in a sense, the sun and moon didn't exist. There was no creature on earth to see them, nor the light they cast.

When Genesis says: 'Let there be lights... To divide the day from the night,' it is talking about eyes.
'The very first eye on earth effectively turned on the lights for animal behaviour,' writes Professor Parker, 'and consequently for further rapid evolution.'
Almost overnight, life suddenly grew vastly more complex. Predators were able to hunt far more efficiently, and so prey had to evolve fast too - or get eaten.

The moment that there were 'lights', or eyes, then life exploded into all its infinite variety.
And yet again, that's what Genesis says happened, and in the correct environment too. In the sea.
For on the very next day of Creation, the fifth day: 'God said, "Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life."'

That is exactly what happened. Life that had hitherto been lived in the dark, by simple, slow-moving, worm-like creatures, erupted into dazzling diversity. We know all about it from the world famous Burgess Shale fossils.
They were discovered in the summer of 1909 by one Charles Doolittle Walcott, on holiday with his family in the Canadian Rockies. Walcott began to chip away at the shale with his geological hammer, and quite by chance stumbled upon one of the greatest finds in all science.
For the shale records what happened on our planet around 508 million years ago, long before the first dinosaurs: the 'Cambrian expolosion,' which most scientists now think was indeed the direct result of the evolution of vision.

The life-forms discovered look like nothing else: fabulous, phantasmagoric, alien beings. One had five eyes, and a long wavy snout with jaws on the end. Another looked like an octopus with its head stuck in a beaker, and another can only be described as 'a swimming pea with a pair of beady eyes, bull's horns, a pair of "hands" and a fish's tail.'

Others resemble balls of spines, vase-shaped pin-cushions, or badminton shuttlecocks with chameleon-like tongues. Anyone who doubts the power of evolution by natural selection only has to look at the Burgess Shale fossils.
How does Genesis describe the teeming aquatic life of the Cambrian explosion? 'And God said, "Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life." ' Immediately following the creation of vision.
How did the writer/writers know that life suddenly diversified into this rich and staggering variety, under the oceans, not on land? Why would a very much land-based people, pastoralists and shepherds, even think like this?
After the Cambrian come the Ordovician, Silurian and Devonian periods - or the appearance of 'great whales', as Genesis succinctly puts it.

How better to describe those epochs which gave us such monsters of the deep as Dunkleosteus, a carnivorous armoured fish whose appearance, says Parker, was 'simply terrifying'. Some 35ft long, 'the size of a small coach', with massive, bone-crunching jaws, even its eyes were armoured.
And after the sea monsters come the birds, the animals, cattle, and finally, homo sapiens. All present and correct, and all still in the right order. Once again, 'In describing how the planet and life around us came to be, the writer of the Genesis narrative got it disturbingly right'.
So what should we make of the extraordinary findings of The Genesis Enigma?
Professor Parker is clear on this subject. 'It would be a great shame if my findings were either misused in an attempt to suggest that scientists themselves are unsure about science, or pounded out of all recognition into support of the seven-day creation premise.'

There is no doubt that literal-minded Creationists do a disservice to the triumphant achievements of modern science, and to the beauty and poetry of the Bible. Evolution is taking place around us all the time. It's why the MRSA superbug has become so dangerously immune to antibiotics, why the race is on to beat the swine flu virus.
Nevertheless, when Parker comes to explaining how the writers of Genesis knew what they knew, he can only conclude that it was due to 'divine intervention', or 'a lucky guess'. Since the odds of the latter seem fantastically remote, Parker tentatively Parker clearly demonstrates what an extraordinary text the Bible is - and even more so, not less so, in the light of modern science. But he is surely wrong to think that the only way of coming by knowledge is either through science or 'divine intervention'.
A vast amount of what we know, and how we behave, is based upon much less clear-cut kinds of knowledge and awareness of the world around us: intuition, gut feeling and imagination.

Imagination isn't simply 'making up stuff that isn't true'. The Sistine Chapel itself is a towering work of imagination, but you'd have to be pretty Philistine and unfeeling to stare up at it, shake your head and dismiss it as nothing but a pack of lies.
There are different kinds of truth. A novel like Anna Karenina is certainly fiction. There is not a single hard scientific or verifiable fact in it. Yet it's one of the most profoundly true books ever written about how humans think and feel and love.

I believe this relates closely to the so-called Genesis Enigma. The writers of Genesis didn't possess scientific knowledge, they didn't have Darwin, or the earth-shattering findings of Victorian geology. They didn't, as Parker himself says, have 'so much as a magnifying lens'.

But that doesn't prove divine intervention either. Instead, they possessed an ancient, intuitive wisdom of great poetry and beauty.
One could compare this with the wisdom of other, pre-scientific cultures, which often turns out to correspond closely to the findings of modern science.

Darwinian evolution teaches us that all life on earth is related. We human beings are 99 per cent genetically identical to chimpanzees and orang-utans. But as the great Professor Steve Jones always loves to point out, we are also 90 per cent mice, and even 50 per cent banana.
Don't worry, Jones adds reassuringly. This doesn't actually make you half-banana - nor for that matter does it make bananas half-human, or the ethics of eating banoffee pie would just get too complicated.
But the surreal comedy of this science aside, there is serious matter here. For just as Darwinian evolution confirms much of the Book of Genesis, it also confirms other, supposedly 'primitive' ways of looking at the natural world.
The American Indians, for instance, poetically talked of 'Brother Eagle' or 'Brother Wolf'. But wasn't this also a deep, intuitive recognition of a primal truth, now confirmed by the hard science of DNA analysis? Wolves really are related to us.
To appreciate the power of pre-scientific wisdom is not for a moment to downgrade the achievements of modern science. But it does emphasise incredible power and, more surprising still, the accuracy of more ancient, 'poetic' ways of seeing. As an ancient proverb has it: 'The mountain has only one summit, but many paths up.'
And the Bible, that sublime portrait of humanity in all its wonder, violence and 'divine discontent', and its restless search for something we call 'God', will live on. It will continue to haunt our imaginations as it haunted Michelangelo's.
For as the author of The Genesis Enigma says, it remains 'that most illustrious and mysterious book of all'..........

A major point lilly never understood is that by introducing an Alphabet at Sinai and requiring universal literacy a massive evolutionary step took place by humans beginning to utilise the left hemissphere of their brains in an abstract, linear and sequential manner forming the ground of modern physics........... thumbs up

The Hebrews/Israelites universalized Alphabetic literacy, this passed to the Phonecians, seafarers and then passed to the Greeks.

Is modern science Biblical or Greek?
By Spengler

http://atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/MJ25Ak02.html

The "founders of modern science", writes David Curzon in Jewish Ideas Daily [1] of October 18, "were all believers in the truths of the opening chapter in the Hebrew Bible. The belief implicit in Genesis, that nature was created by a law-giving God and so must be governed by "laws of nature," played a necessary role in the emergence of modern science in 17th-century Europe. Equally necessary was the belief that human beings are made in the image of God and, as a consequence, can understand these "laws of nature."

Curzon argues that the modern idea of "laws of nature" stems from the Bible rather than classical Greece, for "ancient Greeks certainly believed that nature was intelligible and that its

regularities could be made explicit. But Greek gods such as Zeus were not understood to have created the processes of nature; therefore, they could not have given the laws governing these processes."

Is this just a matter of semantics? Is there a difference between the "Greek" concept of intelligibility, and what Curzon calls the biblical concept of laws of nature? After all, the achievements of Greek science remain a monument to the human spirit. The Greek geometer Eratosthenesin the third century BCE calculated the tilt of the earth's axis, the circumference of the earth, and (possibly) the earth's distance from the sun. Archimedes used converging infinite series to calculate the area of conic sections, approximating the calculus that Newton and Leibniz discovered in the 17th century.

An enormous leap of mind, though, separates Archimedes' approximations from the new mathematics of the 17th century, which opened a path to achievements undreamed of by the Greeks. Something changed in the way that the moderns thought about nature. But does the rubric "laws of nature" explain that change? Curzon is on to something, but the biblical roots of modern science go much deeper.

Before turning to the scientific issues as such, it is helpful to think about the differences in the way Greeks and Hebrews saw the world. The literary theorist Erich Auerbach famously contrasted Greek and Hebrew modes of thought [2] by comparing two stories: the binding of Isaac in Genesis 22, and the story of Odysseus' scar told in flashback (Odyssey, Book 19).

Homer's hero has returned incognito to his home on the island of Ithaca, fearful that prospective usurpers will murder him. An elderly serving woman washes his feet and sees a scar he had received on a boar hunt two decades earlier, before leaving for the Trojan War, and recognizes him. Homer then provides a detailed account of the boar hunt before returning to his narrative.

Homer seeks to bring all to the surface, Auerbach explained in his classic essay. "The separate elements of a phenomenon are most clearly placed in relation to one another; a large number of conjunctions, adverbs, particles, and other syntactical tools, all clearly circumscribed and delicately differentiated in meaning, delimit persons, things, and portions of incidents in respect to one another, and at the same time bring them together in a continuous and ever flexible connection; like the separate phenomena themselves, their relationships - their temporal, local, causal, final, consecutive, comparative, concessive, antithetical, and conditional limitations - are brought to light in perfect fullness; so that a continuous rhythmic procession of phenomena passes by, and never is there a form left fragmentary or half-illuminated, never a lacuna, never a gap, never a glimpse of unplumbed depths."

Auerbach adds, "And this procession of phenomena takes place in the foreground - that is, in a local and temporal present which is absolute. One might think that the many interpolations, the frequent moving back and forth, would create a sort of perspective in time and place; but the Homeric style never gives any such impression."

Stark and spare, by contrast, is the story of God's summons to Abraham to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac. Where Homer tells us everything, the Bible tells us very little. God speaks to Abraham, and Abraham says, "Here I am." Auerbach observes, "Where are the two speakers? We are not told. The reader, however, knows that they are not normally to be found together in one place on earth, that one of them, God, in order to speak to Abraham, must come from somewhere, must enter the earthly realm from some unknown heights or depths. Whence does he come, whence does he call to Abraham? We are not told."

Abraham and Isaac travel together. Auerbach writes, "Thus the journey is like a silent progress through the indeterminate and the contingent, a holding of the breath, a process which has no present, which is inserted, like a blank duration, between what has passed and what lies ahead, and which yet is measured: three days!" Auerbach concludes:
On the one hand, externalized, uniformly illuminated phenomena, at a definite time and in a definite place, connected together without lacunae in a perpetual foreground; thoughts and feeling completely expressed; events taking place in leisurely fashion and with very little of suspense. On the other hand, the externalization of only so much of the phenomena as is necessary for the purpose of the narrative, all else left in obscurity; the decisive points of the narrative alone are emphasized, what lies between is nonexistent; time and place are undefined and call for interpretation; thoughts and feeling remain unexpressed, are only suggested by the silence and the fragmentary speeches; the whole, permeated with the most unrelieved suspense and directed toward a single goal (and to that extent far more of a unity), remains mysterious and "fraught with background".
Literary analysis may seem an unlikely starting-point for a discussion of science. But the Hebrew Bible's embodiment of what Auerbach called "the indeterminate and the contingent" has everything to do with the spirit of modern science. This emerges most vividly in the difference between the Greek and Hebrew understanding of time, the medium through which we consider infinity and eternity.

What separates Archimedes' approximation from Leibniz' calculus? The answer lies in the concept of infinity itself. Infinity was a stumbling-block for the Greeks, for the concept was alien to what Auerbach called their "perpetual foreground." Aristotle taught that whatever was in the mind was first in the senses. But by definition infinity is impossible to perceive. In the very large, we can never finish counting it; in the very small (for example infinitely diminishing quantities), we cannot perceive it. Infinity and eternity are inseparable concepts, for we think of infinity as a count that never ends.

For the Greeks, time is merely the demarcation of events. Plato understands time as an effect of celestial mechanics in Timaeus, while Aristotle in the Physics thinks of time as nothing more than the faucet-drip of events. That is Homer's time, in Auerbach's account. Biblical time is an enigma. That is implicit in Genesis, as Auerbach notes, but explicit in the Book of Ecclesiastes. Greek time is an "absolute temporal present."

In Hebrew time, it is the moment itself that remains imperceptible. Here is Ecclesiastes 3:15 in the Koren translation (by the 19th-century rabbi Michael Friedländer): "That which is, already has been; and that which is to be has already been; and only God can find the fleeting moment." As I wrote in another context, [3] Rabbi Friedländer's translation probably drew upon the celebrated wager that Faust offered the Devil in Goethe's drama. Faust would lose his soul will if he attempted to hold on to the passing moment, that is, to try to grasp what only God can find. The impulse to grab the moment and hold onto it is idolatrous; it is an attempt to cheat eternity, to make ourselves into gods.

A red thread connects the biblical notion of time to modern science, and it is spun by St Augustine of Hippo, the 4th-century Church father and polymath. His reflection on time as relative rather than absolute appears in Book 11 of his Confessions. And his speculation on the nature of number in time takes us eventually to the modern conceptual world of Leibniz and the calculus Aristotle's description of time as a sequence of moments, in Augustine's view, leads to absurdities.

To consider durations in time, we must measure what is past, for the moment as such has no duration. Events that have passed no longer exist, which means that measuring past time is an attempt to measure something that is not there at all. Augustine argues instead that we measure the memory of past events rather than the past itself: ''It is in you, my mind, that I measure times,'' he writes. Our perception of past events thus depends on memory, and our thoughts about future events depend on expectation. Memory and expectation are linked by ''consideration.'' For ''the mind expects, it considers, it remembers; so that which it expects, through that which it considers, passes into that which it remembers.''

Time is not independent of the intellect in Augustine's reading. Expectation and memory, Augustine adds, determine our perception of distant past and future: ''It is not then future time that is long, for as yet it is not: But a long future, is 'a long expectation of the future,' nor is it time past, which now is not, that is long; but a long past is 'a long memory of the past.''' This is the insight that allows Augustine to link perception of time to the remembrance of revelation and the expectation of redemption.

A glimpse of what Augustine's theory of time implies for mathematics appears in his later book, Six Books on Music. I argued in a 2009 essay for First Things: [4]
In De Musica, Augustine seeks to portray ''consideration'' as a form of musical number, that is, numeri judiciales, ''numbers of judgment.'' These ''numbers of judgment'' bridge eternity and mortal time; they are eternal in character and lie outside of rhythm itself, but act as an ordering principle for all other rhythms. They stand at the head of a hierarchy of numbers that begins with ''sounding rhythms'' - the sounds as such - which are in turn inferior to ''memorized rhythms.''

Only the ''numbers of judgment'' are immortal, for the others pass away instantly as they sound, or fade gradually from memory over time. They are, moreover, a gift from God, for ''from where should we believe that the soul is given what is eternal and unchangeable, if not from the one, eternal, and unchangeable God?'' For that reason the ''numbers of judgment,'' by which the lower-order rhythms are ordered, do not exist in time but order time itself and are superior in beauty; without them there could be no perception of time. Memory and expectation are linked by the ''numbers of judgment,'' which themselves stand outside of time, are eternal, and come from God.
That is an intimation of a higher order of number. Because it is buried in a treatise on musical time, Augustine's idea about "numbers of judgment" has elicited scant scholarly interest. But it is clear that his "numbers of judgment" are consistent with his much-discussed theory of "divine illumination." He wrote in Confessions, "The mind needs to be enlightened by light from outside itself, so that it can participate in truth, because it is not itself the nature of truth. You will light my lamp, Lord."

Descartes' "innate ideas" and Kant's "synthetic reason" descend from Augustine, although Kant recast the concept in terms of hard-wiring of the brain rather than divine assistance. The founder of neo-Kantian philosophy, Hermann Cohen (1842-1918) built his career out of the insight that the fact that infinitesimals in the calculus add up to a definite sum proves the existence of something like synthetic reason. That is why Kant triumphed in philosophy and the Aristotelians were reduced to a grumpy band of exiled irredentists.

Augustine's idea finds its way into modern science through Cardinal Nicholas of Cusa (1401-1464). Theologian and mathematician, Cusa noticed that musicians were tuning their instruments to ratios that corresponded to irrational numbers. The "natural" intervals of music tuning clashed with the new counterpoint of the Renaissance, so the musicians adjusted (or "tempered") the intervals to fit their requirements.

The Greeks abhorred the notion of irrational number because they abhorred infinity. Aristotle understood that infinity lurked in the irrational numbers, for we can come infinitely close to an irrational number through an infinite series of approximations, but never quite get there. And the notion of an "actual infinity" offended the Greek notion of intelligibility. To medieval mathematicians, the irrationals were surds, or ''deaf'' numbers, that is, numbers that could not be heard in audible harmonic ratios. The association of rational numbers with musical tones was embedded so firmly in medieval thinking that the existence of an irrational harmonic number was unthinkable.

The practice of musicians, Cusa argued, overthrew Aristotle's objections. The human mind, Cusa argued, could not perceive such numbers through reason (ratio), ie the measuring and categorizing faculty of the mind, but only through the intellect (intellectus), which depended on participation (participatio) in the Mind of God.

Cusa's use of Augustinian terminology to describe the irrationals - numbers ''too simple for our mind to understand'' - heralded a problem that took four centuries to solve (and, according to the few remaining "Aristotelian realists," remains unsolved to this day).

Not until the 19th century did mathematicians arrive at a rigorous definition of irrational number, as the limit of an infinite converging sequence of rational numbers. That is simple, but our mind cannot understand it directly. Sense-perception fails us; instead, we require an intellectual leap to the seemingly paradoxical concept of a convergent infinite series of rational numbers whose limit is an irrational number.

The irrational numbers thus lead us out of the mathematics of sense-perception, the world of Euclid and Aristotle, into the higher mathematics foreshadowed by Augustine (see my article, ''Nicholas of Cusa's Contribution to Music Theory,'' in RivistaInternazionale di Musica Sacra, Vol 10, July-December 1989).

Once irrational numbers had forced their way into Western thinking, the agenda had changed. Professor Peter Pesic [5] recently published an excellent account of the impact of irrational numbers in musical tuning on mathematics and philosophy. [6]

Another two centuries passed before Leibniz averred, ''I am so in favor of the actual infinite that instead of admitting that nature abhors it, as is commonly said, I hold that nature makes frequent use of it everywhere, in order to show more effectively the perfections of its author.'' Theological concerns, one might add, also motivated Leibniz' work, as I sought to show in ''The God of the Mathematicians'' (First Things, August-September 2010).

Unlike Archimedes, who still thought in terms of approximations using rational numbers, Leibniz believed that he had discovered a new kind of calculation that embodied the infinite. Leibniz' infinitesimals (as I reported in ''God and the Mathematicians'') lead us eventually to George Cantor's discovery of different orders of infinity and the transfinite numbers that designate them; Cantor cited Cusa as well as Leibniz as his antecedents, explaining ''Transfinite integers themselves are, in a certain sense, new irrationalities. Indeed, in my opinion, the method for the definition of finite irrational numbers is quite analogous, I can say, is the same one as my method for introducing transfinite integers. It can be certainly said: transfinite integers stand and fall together with finite irrational numbers.''

Gilles DeLeuze (in Leibniz and the Baroque) reports that Leibniz ''took up in detail'' Cusa's idea of ''the most simple'' number: ''The question of harmonic unity becomes that of the 'most simple' number, as Nicolas of Cusa states, for whom the number is irrational. But, although Leibniz also happens to relate the irrational to the existent, or to consider the irrational as a number of the existent, he feels he can discover an infinite series of rationals enveloped or hidden in the incommensurable.'' Leibniz thus stands between Cusa in the fifteenth century and the flowering of the mathematics of infinite series in the nineteenth century. That is a triumph of the biblical viewpoint in modern science.

We can thus draw a red line from the Hebrew Bible (most clearly from Ecclesiastes) to Augustine, and through Nicholas of Cusa to G W Leibniz and the higher mathematics and physics of the modern world. The Hebrew Bible remains a force in modern science, despite the best efforts of rationalists and materialists to send it into exile.

Kurt Goedel, perhaps the greatest mathematician of the 20th century, approached all his work with the conviction that no adequate account of nature was possible without the presence of God. Inspired by Leibniz, Goedel destroyed all hope of a mechanistic ontology through his two Incompleteness Theorems as well as his work (with Paul Cohen) on the undecidability of the Continuum Hypothesis, as I reported in a recent First Things essay. [7]

There is always a temptation to offer simple homilies in honor of the Bible, for example, "intelligent design" theory, which in my view tells us nothing of real importance. An atheist like Spinoza also would contend that God designed the world, because in his philosophy God is the same thing as nature. Design contains no information about the unique and personal God of the Bible.

Curzon's discussion of the laws of nature is by no means wrong, but it would be wrong to leave the matter there. "The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom." As Ecclesiastes (3:11) said, "I have observed the task which God has given the sons of man to be concerned with: He made everything beautiful in its time; He also put an enigma [sometimes "eternity"] into their minds so that man cannot comprehend what God has done from beginning to end" (Ecclesiastes 3:11, Artscroll translation). Eternity is in our minds but the whole of creation is hidden from us. Steven Hawking has gone so far as to conjecture that something like Goedel's Incompleteness Principle might apply to physics as well as mathematics.

What divides Hebrews from Greeks, above all, is a sense of wonder at the infinitude of creation and human limitation. The Odyssey is intended to be heard and enjoyed; Genesis 22 is to be searched and searched again for layers of meaning that are withheld from the surface. The Greek gods were like men, only stronger, better-looking and longer lived, immortal but not eternal, and the Greeks emulated them by seeking become masters of a nature infested by gods. The Hebrews sought to be a junior partner in the unending work of creation. With due honor to the great achievements of the Greeks, modernity began at Mount Sinai.

A human beings only true control is over their consciousness and awareness and the choices they make about what to think, to speak and to feel in all situations.

We are spiritually responsible and spiritually equipped to navigate among the great moral and social challenges we face.

To continually distinguish the behaviours that align with Gods Intentions and those that do not.

Cowards die a thousand deaths.....the brave die but once.......

Tecumseh, Shawnee

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and Demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long; Its purpose is in the service of your people.

Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide. Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, Even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and
Bow to none. When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and For the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, The fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no living thing, For abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts Are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes They weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again In a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

We bless the World around us in order to heal it. Whatever we partake of Gods Creation is Blessed.

Feel Blessed by joy, Wonder, Splendour, Peace--Blessing is a celebration of Joy--

By giving back to creation the quality of Mercy, Chesed-Lovingkindness, compassion--We repair the World.......there is always far more 'good' then 'bad' in the World.....life is too short..........challenging enough without filling ones days in fear, hatred and bitterness............time to let go of your old, false beliefs lilly.......time to stop bullshitting.......honest, truthful people are happy......
